INVITATION FROM CHAIRMAN We wish to inform you that the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering along with School of Chemistry jointly organizing an international conference in Bharathidasan University. On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my very great pleasure to invite you to the international conference on advances in biotechnology and patenting (ICABP -2013) from February 18 21st, 2013 at Bharathidasan University. Preparations are now well under way and we are very excited about the prospects since so many scientists around the world joining us to exchange their scientific views regarding the challenges in Biotechnology and patenting. The scientific program will call attention to the most recent and exciting aspects in Human welfare, Agriculture, Forestry, Environment, Medicine and Intellectual property rights (IPR). The conference will include plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you at this ICABP -2013. . ABOUT US The Bharathidasan University was established in 1982 as an affiliating University. The University carries out teaching, research and extension services through its Departments/Schools of excellence and through its affiliated colleges. There are over 60,000 students undergoing various UG/PG courses in the affiliated colleges. Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli with the name of the revolutionary Tamil Poet Bharathidasan, University celebrates its silver jubilee year during 2006-2007 with a new vigour to prove its credibility and sustain its worldwide reputation. The University is one among those recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) are receiving grants as per section 12b of UGC Act. It is a member of the association of common wealth Universities. To its credit it has been awarded A grade by NAAC. The University main campus (Palkalaiperur Campus) is located 16 Kms away from Tiruchirappalli-Pudukottai National Highway. THEMES AND OBJECTIVE

We wish to inform you that the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, School of Biotechnology along with School of Chemistry of Bharathidasan University has proposed to organize an international conference on Advances in Biotechnology

and Patenting (ICABP -2013) from February 18 21st,

2013. The assortment of biotech

applications is nearly endless, dealing with living organisms and their byproducts in industries, medicine, agriculture, environment and social welfare, and competitive to improve the quality of life by preventing chronic disease, meeting the food and energy needs of our growing population and addressing the looming impact of climate change. There is growing awareness on the imperative need to conserve, protect and manage their valuable natural resources for production and marketing for beneficial of humans. Intellectual property rights (IPR) have become an important aspect in Biotechnology which is characterized by high investments in research and development (R&D). IPRs may also adversely affect the food security, use of evolved agricultural practices, biological diversity and ecological balance and the livelihood of the poor in developing countries. Many products and technologies are simultaneously marketed and utilized in many countries. Developers of such products and technologies would like to ensure R&D costs and other costs associated with introduction of new products in the market are recovered and enough profits are generated for investing in R&D to keep up the R&D efforts. Patents such as rDNA, Cell lines, genetically engineered products, human bone marrow stem cells and hybridization conditions have already been patented with many more in the pipe line. The proposed conference will address the advances in the above fields of Biotechnology and patenting, licensing and copyright of novel inventions of Biological products and technology transfer. The organizing committee is keen to encourage, papers and discussion in the following areas. In order to maintain a continuous stream of new ideas and experimentations, public private partnership in R&D need to be nurtured to arrive at a win-win situation. Therefore all researchers, students, professionals will have to come to terms with the new ground realities and take positive steps to direct research in advances of Biotechnology and to generate more intellectual property rights, protect and manage them efficiently and make the ICAB-2013 as a success. No translations will be provided. ABSTRACT Participants who would like to present an oral or poster presentation must submit an abstract for consideration by the scientific committee. The abstracts should be submitted in English by before 15th November 2012. The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission to the Secretariat. RULES 1. Authorship on multiple abstracts is permitted. 2. Registration fees must be paid along with abstract. 3. Abstract should not exceed 300 words including title, author(s) and affiliation. 4. Abstract of papers should be prepared using MS word in Times New Roman, 12 pitch font, double line spacing and send to the Organizing Secretary of the Conference 5. Abstracts can be sending by e-mail or by CD only 6. Micrographs and figures must not be included with the abstract 7. Underline the name of the presenting author 8. Specify your choice for abstract presentation (plenary speaker, oral communication, poster) 9. Sign the abstract. ORAL PRESENTATION The duration for the oral presentation will be of 20 minutes (15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes discussion)

POSTERS The size of the posters will be 120120 cm. During the poster session a committee appointed by the organizers will judge all posters. The best three posters will be invited to give a brief overview. REGISTRATION FEE Foreign Delegates Professionals Students US $ 500/US $ 200/Post doc. /Research Students US $ 250/Indian Delegates Rs. 6000/Rs. 3000/Rs. 2000/-

The registration fee should be sent through bank draft drawn in favour of The Organizing Secretary, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli-620 024, India and send the same to the organizing secretary, (ICABP-2013) Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli-620 024, India before 15th November, 2012 through international money order or bank draft. The registration form along with the abstract of research paper should reach the organizing secretary by 15th November, 2012. Registration becomes valid only after receipt of the fee. Registration fees cover attendance at all the conference sessions, conference materials, which include the delegate bag and the conference souvenir. This also includes the work lunch, dinner and tea during the conference. An extra fee of Rs. 250/- (Indian Delegates), US$100 (foreign delegates) will be charged after 25th November, 2012. SUPPORTS First 20 early registrations will get complimentary local hospitality (Boarding, Lodging and local transport from 18 to 21st February 2013). Further supports will be extended to research students and young investigators. ACCOMMODATION Accommodation will be arranged in the hotels on request; it offers you a relaxing and comfortable stay. Rooms in lower category hotels are also available. Room type will be allocated as per your requirements according to availability. Those who are interested to stay hotels in the city will have to pay the hotel charges directly to the concerned hotel at the end of their stay. Please indicate on the registration form, your choice for stay so that the advance

booking will be made on behalf of the concerned delegates. The tariff details will be given in the second circular. EXHIBITION An exhibition is likely to be arranged at the conference venue for scientific and nonscientific goods. SPONSORSHIP/CO-SPONSORSHIP The leading organizations, funding agencies, industries, equipment manufactures and allied services are invited to sponsor the conference for lunch, dinner/kits etc., Sponsors/co-sponsors will find their names reflected in the conference publication and literature and would be prominently displayed at the conference venue. The sponsors will be given a free place for their product display. ADVERTISEMENT The limited amount of space will be made available for advertisements in the abstract of the conference. TIME LINES Submission of abstracts Payment of Registration fee Request for Hotel reservation Submission of full paper HOW TO REACH Tiruchirappalli is situated on the banks of the river Kaveri situated in the middle of Tamil Nadu. The city is known for its temple architecture, educational institutions, industries, cigars and cheroots. Amongst handicraft are brassware, handloom textiles, pith models of temples and Rock Fort. It is shortly called as "Tiruchi" or "Trichy". Trichy is the district headquarters of the district of Tiruchirappalli and has its name for tourist attraction. The fourth largest city of the state is a thriving commercial centre. Tiruchi itself is an industrial town, where a number of industries flourish. An International Airport also available at Tiruchirappalli and the city is 380 km away from the city of Chennai. The delegates coming from abroad are advised to take flight to Chennai International Airport; and domestic air service to Tiruchirappalli. You can also reach by bus/cab/train to Tiruchirappalli. The travel time is about 1-2 hours from Chennai by air. The conference secretariat will operate shuttle service from Tiruchirappalli Airport to the Hotels/University campus on 17th to 21th February, 2013. : 15th October, 2012. : 15th October, 2012 : 15th November, 2012. : 15th November, 2012.

CLIMATE The weather in Tiruchirappalli during January is normally mild, perfect to enjoy your free time. The average temperature varies from 28-340C during the day but evening temperatures can be lower up to 260C CLOTHING Smart casual attire is appropriate for all conference business sessions. The delegates are advised to bring warm clothing. OFFICIAL LETTER OF INVITATION An official letter of invitation will be made available upon request. However, the invitation letter does not promise any financial support. VISAS The all visitors from other nations will require visas to visit India. Letter of invitation for visa application will be sending on request after receipt of the registration form and fees. Please check with the local Indian Embassy/Consulate for visa details and other requirements. Aspirants are requested to send their brief CV and to expected support to the conference secretariat (Email) on or before 25th October, 2012.
