The Dance Night was with out a doubt a wonderful evening, an opportunity for students to display their talents and wow the huge audience. All students from Yr0 - Yr10 contributed to this evening. Students and their teachers worked together to plan; the music, the choreography, the costumes and props for their class dance. Everyone was stunned and thrilled by the quality of creativity, the share enjoyment of the students and the excellent attitude to participating. There were smiles aplenty, warm applause and much pride in the performance from the children. To everyone a hearty congratulations and well done. For our senior students Saturdays School Formal was a major event and a major success. The organising committee, guided by Mrs Vicky Lilley, organised and hosted an excellent night. Our fifteen Yr 11-13 students invited friends and acquaintances from many Otago and Southland High Schools growing numbers to be over one hundred. The theme a Night at the Races saw Simpson Park decorated in horse regalia and set a relaxed and positive atmosphere. Head Students Matt Ankerson and Emma Shaw started the evening off with a snowball waltz. After that it was non-stop dancing. Students looked wonderful in their ball gowns and suits. Photographs were the order of the day with Mrs Bronnie Bugden and Mrs Kerren Crawford snapping thousands of shots. Our Year 9 and 10 students contributed brilliantly acting as waitress and Djs for the night. As the night progressed thoughts turned to the crowning of the King and Queen as voted by the adults present. Popular winners were Miss Emma Shaw and Mr Matt Ankerson, who again lead everyone in dance. All too soon the evening came to a close, with parents picking up their sons and daughters and farewells offered. To the organising committee congratulations for hosting a wonderful formal. Thanks is extended to Robert Wallance, Jason Robertson and Paddy Hotton for helping with security.. Thanks is extended to those parents who helped decorate the hall and assisted in a variety of ways. Thanks is extended to staff who enjoyed the evening with students and contributed in many ways to the success of the evening. We thank our young visitors, and congratulate them on their extemporary behaviour. Formal No 2 - the school formal does now appear to be an essential item on the school Kind Regards calendar.

Komene Cassidy Visit

We were recently visited by two acknowledged Maori educators. Paulette and Komene Cassidy. Accompanied by their boys They wowed us with waiata, as well as talking about Te Reo and Tikanga Maori. In Term 4 we hope to work alongside Komene and Paulette and host a wananga, a weekend of learning, working together and sharing. We will keep everyone informed about possible dates and the programme for the wananga.

A Big Deal!!!!!!!
Our senior girls Basketball team recently won the Otago B Grade Championship. The final, versus East Otago, was played in the Lion Arena. Both sides had loud partisan crowds, both teams giving it all, to try and win a championship which year in, year out is won by the big schools in Dunedin. The game was uncompromising, two evenly matched teams, fit, skillful, determined. Our girls played to the game plan, tight defence, patient attack. Falling six points behind mid way through the second half we did not panic, but fought back brilliantly. Full time found the teams locked at 21-21. Superior fitness and real fight in extra time saw Lawrence edge ahead taking the game in dramatic fashion 25-23. The team and its many supporters were thrilled by this win. Team effort, everyone giving 100%, everyone valuing the skills of those around them resulted in this championship win. Congratulations to the winning team, thank you to all the girls who played throughout the season and to everyone who supported the team.
