ULSTER Unionist leader Mike Nesbitt last night vigorously defended his decision to sack John McCallister amid some disquiet within the party over the move. Mr Nesbitt attempted to allay the

concerns of those UUP members who fear that the party is heading for closer links with the DUP but , did not rule out a unionist unity candidate in the upcoming Mid Ulster by-election.
