BCs new Lieutenant Governor

Monday morning, news outlets showed our very own Judy Guichon accepting the appointment by Prime Minister Harper as BCs 29th Lieutenant Governor. BC Premier Christy Clark said of her: "In Judith Guichon, British Columbians have a representative that represents our values of hard work, tradition and a passion for our shared future. We in the Nicola Valley know her as a woman who is passionate about health & well-being, the environment and her industry as a rancher. Locally she has worked tirelessly with the Nicola Watershed Community Round Table, the NV Health Endowment Foundation, BC Cattlemen's Association. Shes also served on the Fraser Basin Council of BC and the Grasslands Conservation Council of BC. She runs the Guichon Ranch at the east end of Nicola Lake, and is a frequent media favourite when theres a story about the state of cattle ranching. Monday, a small forest fire broke out around 3pm near the Coquihallas Helmer Lake exit. The highway was shut down both ways so that air tankers could drop fire retardant to slow the spread of the wildfire. At its largest, the fire covered 1.5-hectares, and was very smoky due to high winds. The fire is suspected to be human-caused.
