Halloween is a big event in Farmington and the Halloween Parade is scheduled for Friday, October 26. The library will be participating, as always, and would welcome donations of candy. The Library will also be open on Wednesday, Oct. 31 for Trick or Treat. Come scare us with your costumes! ATTENTION BUSINESS OWNERS, TOWN PLANNING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEES, and Other Interested Organizations The Library is pleased to collaborate with the Wentworth Economic Develop Corp to present a special FREE workshop Content Marketing for Business and Organizations. This two-part program will be held at the Library on Tuesday Oct. 23 6:007:30 PM and Tuesday Oct. 30, 6:00-7:30 PM. This workshop will provide the background, technical information, and tools for creating and maintaining an online presence to expand your business. Space is Limited. Farmington Film Society Presents a Special Free Screening of A Good Baby Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6:00 P.M. This month we are pleased to bring you the film A Good Baby starring Henry Thomas (as a child actor he was Eliott in E.T.) as a young man wandering the back roads of North Carolina who comes across an abandoned baby. He begins seeking the baby's parents, but starts developing a bond with the child. This haunting, atmospheric film with a lovely soundtrack was acclaimed when it was released in 2000 but is little seen, today, and is currently unavailable on DVD. It co-stars David Strathairn and Cara Seymour. Dont miss this opportunity to see this unusual film. Please call for more information 755-2944 x 2 This is a film for Adults 18 and up. Genealogy Reminder: Our Historical/Genealogical collection is a secured collection and requires the assistance of Staff for access. Due to staffing limitations, we are unable to assist patrons on a drop-in basis. Please e-mail your requests to reference@goodwinlibrary.org and include your contact information. Titles to Watch Out For A few new books will be on the shelves soon that are highly recommended. Watch for Daniel Waters new one Break My Heart 1000 Times. It is an unusual ghost story and both beautifully written and suspenseful. Check the linked blog The Militant Recommender at http://militantrecommender.blogspot. com/ for an exclusive interview with Daniel Waters and a more extensive review. This book was optioned for a film before it was even released! Another highly anticipated title is the sequel to Mike Mullins great debut Ashfall called Ashen Winter. That will also be released this month. These novels take place after the eruption of a supervolcano and the aftermath the survivors face. They are both gripping and visionary. Mr. Mullins was also interviewed on the Militant Recommender blog. Community Information Historical Society Friday, October 5 @ 7:00 PM Presenting Stephen Taylor, the former NH Commissioner of Agriculture speaking on "New Hampshire's OneRoom Schools: The Romance and the Reality". Mr. Taylor will explore the lasting legacies of the one-room school era and how they echo today. Note: This program is sponsored by the NH Humanities Council

Goodwin Library Writers Group Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 6:00 PM We had a great start to the new session with some amazing work shared. If you are a writer of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, memoirs, songs (or cartoons!) or anything else that you would like to share we are a criticism-free zone and happy to support new or established writers equally, so dont be shy, come on down and join in the fun. Friends of the Goodwin Library Bake Sale This Month! Next Friends Meeting is Wed. Oct. 10 at 6:00 PM. If you love the library and would like to help us raise funds for equipment and programs please join us at our monthly meetings. The Friends Fall Bake Sale will be on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 1:00-7:00 PM. Bakers & Buyers are welcome!
