HARVEST BAPTIST CHURCH PRAYER DIARY NEW SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE TIMES 9:00 & 10:45A.M.

MONDAYEVANGELISTIC PRAYER Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 49-51; 1 Timothy 3 Monday, October 15 Heb. 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Supreme God and Loving Father: How often do I feel like my mouth is not able to express my heart in prayer. Let that same sense of inadequacy draw me to the throne of grace with even greater boldness. O that my words could more nearly tell the longing of my soul for the lost, but if not, I do have an assistant in this great work of prayer. Rom. 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Give me a burning desire and wholeheartedness to know you in prayer, and for _______ and _______ to know you through my presentation of the gospel. Rom. 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. I cannot obey perfectly, but I can obey from the heart! Help me be obedient at every prompting of your Spirit to witness and testify of Jesus. Mat. 5:6,8 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Make me hunger and thirst for you in inner prayer with a sincere (pure) heart. Make those I witness to hunger and thirst to have forgiveness of sins. Psa. 119:80 Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed. Where my longings are is where I am at in the sight of God. Make me sincere in my desire for you and in my earnestness in prayer for others. Then will I be perfect, upright and undefiled. Give me souls as our church grows! Make me your tool to witness to many. Make it so this week, Lord Jesus. Amen. TUESDAYFOCUS ON CHRISTS MIRACLES Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 52-54; 1 Timothy 4 Tuesday, October 16 Luke 6:10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. Lord and Master: I cannot explain it, but I know you often ask me to stretch first, and then give me the strength afterwards. Break my hard heart today so I can lay hold of your word in this way. Dissolve this stubborn steel and help me trust you and obey, because you always give the power to do what you command to be done. If I am called to believe, and I have to stand with tears in my eyes and say, I cannot understand, and cannot believe, still you are able to help thou mine unbelief (Mark 9:24). Speak through your servants who preach to me. Speak through your word as I read. Speak directly by your Spirit to my conscience. You are the Son of God, and I desire opportunities to say to you, Give me, Lord, the faith that you ask of me. Give me, dear Lord, the trust that you demand. What a way you have of doing your workfirst to give the command, then to help the heart turn the command into a prayer, and then to answer that prayer by a promise. You say, Ezek. 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? That is clearly a command, but who can do it? So David prays: Psa. 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Then later in Ezekiel you give the promise: Ezek. 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: First you command, then you set me to praying for the blessing, and then you answer by a promise. Help me learn this holy protocol of command/prayer /and promise-claimed much better, for I know you desire to give more. Amen. FRIDAY CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 61-63; 2 Timothy 1 Friday, October 19 A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 58-60; 1 Timothy 6 Thursday, October 18 Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Rev 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. Holy God Our Creator: The prayers you accept are not the chanting of monks, the litanies of priests, or the devout lighting of candlesthey have to be the petitions of living saints. The sweetness of the incense is found in our lives fulfilling your mission. The acceptance does not come unless it is our own hearts praying. Make this moment so, Lord. Strike the spark to the incense now! We are your saints. You have given us a status, set apart by the power of your Spirit. You purified our nature with divine life. We have been washed in the precious blood of Jesus, and by it sanctified unto you. When you filled us with your Spirit you set us apart to worship. We love you. We praise you. We bow down before you with solemn awe, lifting our souls in communion with you. Help us reach the lost and left-behind among us. Our thoughts, desires, longings, confessions, pleadings, and praises are sweetness to your nostrils. Make theirs so, for it is perfume to your heart, delight to your mind, and music to your ears. In no other way can a spiritual God be worshiped (John 4:24). In our prayers, that which is sweet to you is not the words we use, but it is the secret qualities comparable to the essence and aroma of sweet spices in the Old Testament (vials of odours). The burning of the coals draws-out the spiritual essence, and latent sweetness then wafts itself around until everyone confesses its power. Give us that spiritual force in our praying. You perceive the faith or absence of it as we pray. May our prayers be pleasing to you all this day, for we ask it in our heavenly mediator Jesus name. Amen. WEDNESDAYREVIVAL PRAYING Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 55-57; 1 Timothy 5 Wednesday, October 17 Ezra 9:6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. Lord, My Father: You O Lord are in heaven, but I am on earth. My being is but yesterday and my foundation is in the dust. It is only in you that I live and move and have my being. If you withhold your breath, then I die. I mourn before you Lord, because of my pride and vanity of mind, the violence of my passions, my earthly-mindedness and love of this world, my sensuality and indulgence of the flesh, my carnal security and ungratefulness in plenteous mercies, my fretfulness and impatience, and my sinful defection in time of trouble. I confess my neglect of duty and lack of love to God, my unbelief and hardness of heart, my slothfulness and decay in spirituality, the dishonor I have brought to your name, and all my missteps toward my fellow creatures. How often have they been repeatedboth before I knew God savingly, and even since. I committed them against much light and I have sinned against much love. After many rebukes, both through the Bible and through your providence, and after many comforts from the gospel and the Spirit of God, I have nevertheless done all these things. Job 40:4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Lam. 3:29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. I put my face on the floor to worship you and plead for merciful forgiveness, while trusting in the merits of Jesus Christ my Lord. Make him more and more to me. Make him my all. Make him completely my sufficiency. Amen. SATURDAYIN THE PSALMS Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 64-66; 2 Timothy 2 Saturday, October 20 Psa. 142:1 Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave. I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication. Heavenly Lord and Holy Father: I have to pray when I am in the cave. If David had prayed half as much in the palace as he did in the cave, he would not have fallen to temptation! If he had been looking up to heaven instead of staring down at Bathsheba, if his heart had been in communion with you (as I need mine to be this whole day), then he would not have stained his character, shamed your name, and made his family suffer. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (Matt 6:13). You are not the God of my mountaintops only, but also of my valleys. You heard Jonah when he was in the belly of despair. Wherever I work I can pray. Whatever my circumstances I can pray. There is no place I can be banished where you will not hear, and where you are not as near as my supplications. There is no time when your throne is not accessible, because I am your child. My caves should hear my best prayers. Lord, make me shine brightest in the dark! I pray well when I am driven by desperate dependence to pray. David was anointed to be king, but the way to the throne was through affliction and the cave of Adullam. If thrown-down this week, let me see it as a platform to a higher spiritual life. You make me hungry before you feed me; I am hungry for you now. I am also, so much the schemer like Jacob. Touch my hollow, natural strength, to make me a prince with you! Put me out of joint so I will be in place for your mercies. Then I will not regret going by the way of the cave, because here is where you teach me to pray. Whether in a cave or on a throne, make me bless you by glorifying you with my life. Do it for Jesus sake and merit. Amen.

MUST Jesus bear the cross alone, and all the world go free?
No, theres a cross for everyone, and theres a cross for me. How happy are the saints above, who once went sorrowing here! But now they taste unmingled love, and joy without a tear. The consecrated cross Ill bear till death shall set me free; And then go home my crown to wear, for theres a crown for me. Upon the crystal pavement down at Jesus piercd feet, Joyful Ill cast my golden crown and His dear Name repeat. O precious cross! O glorious crown! O resurrection day! When Christ the Lord from heavn comes down and bears my soul away. Henry Ward Beecher, 1813-1887

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the same things over and over. This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the Bible chronologically in a year. Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying. Alan

WEDNESDAY

GIVE GOD THE FIRST PART OF EVERY DAY. The first commitment is to a daily quiet time with God. Our weekly Prayer Diary provides a template for daily devotions. 2) TITHEWORK 1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DIME OF EVERY DOLLARno questions asked. Ten percent is a miniscule amount in our affluent society, but it must come off the top in order to show that God is our priority. We want the blessing of the firstfruits (first devotion, first dime and first day) to flow out to the rest of our resources. 3) TEAMWORD Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK. You should fellowship with a group of believers around the word of God every Sunday in our church.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had prayed. Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition. God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son. Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
