MUSIC STREAMING ARRIVES IN ASIA AS DEEZER PURSUES ITS INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION

Deezer launches in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, followed by Indonesia and the Philippines Web-based streaming services gives music fans music everywhere, on any device

15th August 2012 Global music subscription service Deezer is bringing unlimited music to Asia this week, as the service launches in Thailand, rapidly followed by Singapore and Malaysia. Subsequent launches in Indonesia and the Philippines are expected within the coming weeks. The arrival of Deezer in the region is set to change the way people listen to music. With more than 18 million tracks available at the click of a button across all devices including iPhones, Android phones, Blackberries, laptops, tablets and wireless Hi-Fi speakers, music will now be accessible to music fans in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia in more ways than ever before. Deezer will exist as both a standalone service in the three markets and through key partner dtac in Thailand. The new partnership with dtac, one of the regions leading telecommunications operators, build on Deezers successful business model which has seen it partner with telecommunications networks such as Orange, T-Mobile and Belgacom elsewhere. Axel Dauchez, CEO of Deezer, said: We are thrilled to launch Deezer in Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia during our first foray into Asia and look forward to rolling out in the Philippines and Indonesia. There is a real passion for music here and we have no doubt that Deezers strong focus on local music and editorial recommendations will resonate with fans in each country. We are pleased to have dtac on board as we have found in other markets that telecommunications partnerships provide a powerful way of helping people explore this revolutionary new way of listening to, discovering and sharing music. Asia represents a huge opportunity for the European streaming music service Deezer. High rates of smartphone penetration in markets such as Malaysia [88% - Gfk April 2012] have given music fans the opportunity to take their music and content with them wherever they go and access it from any device. In Singapore, policymakers have recognized that consumers increasingly want to access content from anywhere with a goal to provide 90% of households with high speed internet access. Elsewhere in the region, the popularity of ringback tone sales in Thailand suggests that reasonably priced streaming services could benefit from offering consumers higher quality music everywhere, on any device. A key recent challenge for music creators in Asia has been the growth of illegal download activity. For bands, artists and labels alike, Deezer will become a powerful platform that will help artists get paid fairly for their creative work. Shigga Shay, a rapper, songwriter and producer from Singapore, said, Today, the most effective way to

deliver music to the masses is through digital downloads and streaming. Deezer makes it easier for music lovers to discover my work. It may even help me to score a deal with a major label one day. The Deezer Premium + service will this week be available in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore as a standalone service, while mobile data use resulting from the Deezer application is free of charge. The package will also be available to dtac customers within one integrated postpaid tariff.

The announcement comes shortly after Deezers appointment of Australian music business specialist, Thomas Heymann, as the Country Manager for the companys operations in Australia/New Zealand. The launches in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand consolidate Deezers position as the one truly global subscription service with a presence now in 91 territories worldwide. The roll out in Asia is to continue, with Deezer launching in Indonesia and the Philippines in the coming weeks. - End -
