facilities, and recruit physicians so local residents would not have to leave our area for vital medical services such as cancer treatment, orthopedics, heart care, and advanced surgical procedures, while providing those services at the highest level of safety and quality for patients. A search committee is being chaired by John Payne, chairman of the joint personnel committee of Fisher-Titus Medical Center and Norwalk Area Health Systems, Inc. The committee of local board members, medical staff and community members is working with executive search firm WittKieffer to conduct a national search for Martins replacement. WittKieffer specializes in the health-care industry. Our goal is to identify a person who fits the Fisher-Titus culture of employees, medical staff, volunteers, and board members working together to meet the health-care needs of our communities. This strong team approach, focused on local needs, has been integral to our success, said Stoneham. Our proposed timeline also will ensure that the new president has an opportunity to work with Mr. Martin during a transition period.

These groups along with the many others that decend on our city in the fall include anglers from all over the United States. They are here because in the fall, Huron has the best fishing for a trophy walleye that can be had anywhere. So watch the boat ramp on the week-ends fill up.

Letters to the Editor

Letter to the Editor As I watched the Erie County Commission Candidate Forum, I was appalled by the comments from Steve Kraus concerning the City of Sandusky. Having been a City Commissioner, his attitude towards 25,000 residents was inexcusable. He mentioned crime, blight and drugs which is a challenge for a number of communities. Does he feel that the City Commission and the Administration are standing in the shadows not doing anything? Addressing Mr. Brady, Kraus stated Im not sure what part of Sandusky you live in but the part that I live in theres drug dealers on the street openly. That is impossible, Kraus lives in Huron, across the street from me. According to the auditors web site he doesnt even own the house. Referencing Rep. Dennis Murray during the forum, Kraus claimed Rep. Murray was not business friendly. Give me a break. I served with Dennis Murray, he was a strong advocate toward business, I know, I was there. I have the utmost respect for Rep. Murray, serving not only the citizens of Sandusky but his district as well. Everyone wants to see Erie County thrive, Kraus, it seems, doesnt have a clue as to the duties and responsibilities of a county commissioner. Kraus stated also I want this job and I need this job. That seems to be true that he needs a job, just not that of an Erie County Commissioner. significantly and the purchase of many new materials slowed to a crawl. While the Board of Directors have been able to make choices that have kept the operations of the library at a solid level, new demands are surfacing which the library needs to respond to. Supporting the Huron Public Library with your vote of confidence would enable them to purchase new computers, increase the collection to meet demands, and add to and maintain other services and programming not possible without additional funding; such as book clubs, book fairs and reading programs for our children. New Exercise Adams Inducted into Heidelberg HOF Classes to Focus on A native of Willard, Ohio and current resident of HuYoung Children and ron, OH, Matt Adams began playing basketball in fifth grade and it didnt take long for him to develop a true passion for the game. Expectant Mothers He was a standout player for the Crimson Flashes,
coached by the legendary Robert Haas. During his senior year at Willard, the team finished with a perfect 20-0 regular season. Upon graduation from Willard High School in 1991, Adams enrolled at Heidelberg and played basketball for Coach John Hill. Adams, a four year letter winner, was named All-OAC First Team and All-Tournament Team in 1994 and 1995. A team captain his senior year, Adams holds several school records, including most points in a season (610 in 94-95). Adams is second on the all-time points scored list with 1,718. Adams holds the Ohio Athletic Conference career record for three point field goals made, with 275. Adams graduated from Heidelberg as part of the graduating class of 1995 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He has worked for the Lear Corporation in various engineering capacities, and currently works for Industrial Nut Corporation as the Quality Manager. He has three children, Alexis (17), Tyler (9) and Camryn (5). By Lisa yako To achieve good physical and mental health, exercise should be incorporated into our daily routine throughout our entire life. Exercise serves not only to strengthen our body but also to help reduce stress, stave off illness and injury, and boost our brain function. Several recent studies have shown that aerobic exercise actually increases growth factors and proteins that stimulate the brain. Hence, exercise, especially for those whose brains are rapidly developing, should be viewed as a critical component of a healthy lifestyle. Berlin Heights resident and registered nurse, Carolynne Zettler, is passionate about ensuring that exercise be incorporated into the lives of our youngest citizens. To that end, Zettler has begun offering an exercise class at The Gym in Huron for children ages three months to two years with a caregiver. During the class, which is held on Saturday mornings from 10:00-10:50 AM, the child and the caregiver interact in various educational and fitness-related activities. This class is basically for the babies. I want them to love coming to the gym and learning that moving and exercising is fun. stated Zettler. Hence, the goal of this class is both to encourage a lifetime of exercise for the child and also to provide an opportunity for the caregiver to interact with the child and get a little exercise at the same time. In fact, during some parts of the class the baby is actually used as a weight or a means of resistance for the caregiver. The cost of the class is $5.00 per session and does not require a membership to The Gym. The only requirements are that you bring a stroller and a blanket for the child. Zettler spent 16 years of her nursing career in obstetrics and knows, from her work experience as well as her personal experience as the mother of three, the importance of a strong body during pregnancy and delivery. Therefore, she would also like to organize a class specifically designed for pregnant women. In this class, Zettler will focus on minimizing discomfort and maximizing health and knowledge during this physically-demanding nine months of a womans life. In her years of experience, Zettler has seen the benefits of a strong, healthy body not only for the mother and the delivery process, but also for the health and well-being of the newborn child. As interest in the class for expectant mothers grows, Zettler will schedule a set time for the class which will also be held at The Gym. If you are interested in either class, you can contact Zettler at 216-854-0459 or holisticmoves@ameritech.net.

Farm Rescue
EHOVE hosted the 3rd annual Farm Rescue Event located in Wakeman, OH. Professional firefighters from all over the area attended the training. Farms can pose special dangers to responders, so fireman learned about anhydrous ammonia response and electrical dangers on the farm, including propane emergencies. Silo rescues can happen anywhere and anytime. Grain tube rescue scenarios were covered as well as a tour of the facility to identify possible entrapment locations and conditions. Entanglements are always possible around the farm. This session showed fireman how to get their hands on tools and equipment in farm equipment entanglement scenarios. Ron Steinman, Carroll Township Fire and EMS volunteer, felt the Farm Rescue was great. I think it went pretty well, said Steinman. Very hands on training. Instructors are very hospitable. You get to see stuff you do not see everyday. It helps you stay current on getting rescues accomplished. Ray Davidson, New London Fire Department, was very impressed with all the anhydrous stuff. There were many valuable things that I learned today, said Davidson. It is also great working with different fire departments and getting different perspectives and ideas on things. Richard Ackerman, New Washington Fire Department of 50 years, enjoyed attending the event. All the training was good, said Ackerman. A lot of fire departments do not get this type of training or have access to it. Donations went to the Huron County Firefighters - 9/11 Memorial. CE provided by the EHOVE Fire Academy. Training funded by Northern Ohio Fools (Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society). Sponsored by Sunrise Cooperative and AG Credit Country Mortgages.

Symphony Gets Target Grant

The Firelands Symphony Orchestras Symphony in the Schools program has been awarded a grant from Target Corporation. Grant funds were given in recognition of the efforts of the FSO to provide supplementary music instruction to elementary and secondary schools in Erie, Huron and Ottawa Counties. Musicians will be introducing and demonstrating the orchestral instruments in each section of an orchestra to elementary students. Additionally, band and orchestra students in grades 5-12 will be given individual instruction on their instrument by an orchestra member. All students will be invited to attend Firelands Symphony concerts free of charge. The grant will provide an opportunity for the students to develop an understanding and appreciation of symphonic music. These programs offer youngsters a first-hand connection with the arts through this hands-on, interactive opportunity to witness and appreciate classical music, says Jody Chaffee, Education Coordinator and FSO musician. This is our audience of tomorrow.

Statement of Support
From a nosebleed to a leukemia diagnosis. It happened kind of fast. Nathan Bishop of Willard, an EHOVE alumnus of the Culinary Arts program, and graduate of Norwalk High Schools Class of 2005, received that diagnosis on August 30. Soon after, Bishops Culinary Arts instructor Chef Michael Edwards at EHOVE heard about it and knew he would do whatever he could to help. Bishop is a five year employee of Applebees, and was beginning steps to become a manager before his diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia (apml), which is cancer of the blood and bone marrow.. He is now recovering from an extensive hospital stay and has a lengthy forecast of treatments, medications, doctor appointments in Toledo, hospital stays ahead of him. Despite the obvious stress of a major health problem, caring for his two year old daughter, negotiating the conflicts with his health insurance company, plus not being able to work to pay his bills, his mother, Brenda Kelly of Norwalk says his attitude is amazing. He always says that it could be a lot worse, and he ends up being worried about me instead of himself, said Kelly. The nurses at the hospital fight over who gets to have him as a patient. Hes just that great type of guy. Edwards knew hed get involved, but he wanted to also get peoples attention. One thing came to mind. People with leukemia usually have chemotherapy, and usually lose their hair, right?. Edwards decided to shave his head to support his former student and stand up against cancer. Conveniently, EHOVEs Cosmetology Salon has just opened its doors for the year, so Edwards simply walked to the neighboring building on campus to

Huron High School Awards Students of the Month for September

Congratulations to the following Huron High School students for earning the Student of the Month honor for September: Hannah Blackwell, freshman, Karl Bates, sophomore, Reid Roshong, junior, and Ross Johnson, senior. The Student of the Month students were nominated by and voted on by their teachers as being good role models to others, kind, hardworking both in and out of school, and always willing to lend a helping hand, explained Mrs. Jordan Fahr, teacher of Family and Consumer Science. The staff members at Huron High School will vote for the Student of the Month Award once a month. One student from each grade level will be chosen for the title. JOHNSON

(L-R)EHOVECosmetologystudentAlyssaGonzales,CulinaryArtsInstructor MichaelEdwards,EHOVECosmetologystudentandBloggerChandaBiecheler(WesternReserveHS) make his statement. Although he knew the Cosmetology would be watching, Edwards was happy to have an opportunity to share all with others through a communication channel already set up with EHOVE students. A group of senior bloggers are sharing their Senior year experiences at EHOVE through blog posts and videos. One blogger, Cosmetology student Chanda Biecheler (Western Reserve HS), documented Edwards headshaving asked Edwards about his former student, cancer and helping others. Biecheler also involved the Cosmetology students by questioning them about what itd take to shave their heads. Kelly expressed her appreciation for Edwards support. Especially with those beautiful curls he had before, it really means a lot that he would do this for Nate, said Kelly. That is incredible and takes a special person. Kelly also said her family is extremely grateful for all of the support theyve received from family and friends. Thank you to everyone, said Kelly. We have been so blessed. Upcoming events to support Nate Bishop: October 6, 8-11 am, Pancake breakfast at Applebees in Sandusky. Adults $8 Children $3. Bake sale also. All restaurant proceeds donated to Bishop, even workers are donating their time. More details available at the event. October 27, 5-7 pm, Spaghetti Dinner at VFW in Norwalk. Bake sale and auction also. VFW donated the use of the hall for the event. More details available at the event. The entire headshaving video and interview with Chef Edwards and students can viewed now at http://blog. ehove.net/blog/author/cbiecheler/.
