Benjacks Farm Party: Kick Off Fall in Franklin Saturday, October 27, 2012

The fun starts at 1pm

Come join the Benjacks at their farm in Franklin on Saturday, October 27th. The Benjacks have graciously agreed to open their home and fields for these GREAT fall festivities. Fish in the river, ride the zip line, hike, camp out, and enjoy the fellowship of the outdoors and fine friends. Bring the whole family for a picnic lunch, lots of conversation and good old fashioned fun! Feel free to bring a tent and spend the night. BYOB. Rain date will be Saturday, November 3rd. This party was offered as a sign-up event at our February 2012 Auction, open to the first 75 families at the cost of $150 per family. On Thursday, November 1 at 7 pm in the MPR, we will host an Internet Safety/Digital citizenship presentation for grades 4-8 parents and students. We also invite the parents of those in grades K-3 to attend. The event will be led by Kenneth Bryn Swartz, Assistant Attorney General and Prosecutor with the Computer Crime Section of the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. Please join us!

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinellis "SafetyNet" Presentation

The Attorney General's Computer Crime Section (CCS) is comprised of prosecutors and criminal investigators who prosecute and investigate computer crimes across Virginia. A key element of the mission of the CCS is to educate the public about the Internets potential dangers. Last year alone, the CCS trained and educated over 5,000 Virginia parents and children. While the Internet is filled with enormous promise, it also carries serious new problems, namely how to educate children about the consequences of posting too much personal information, including inappropriate material, and how to protect children from Internet predators and scam artists. Today's children and teenagers have become sophisticated and knowledgeable users of the Internet, often times more knowledgeable than their parents. But these children and teens often dont realize the consequences of their actions and their vulnerability while online. Personal information placed on the Internet can damage our childrens futures and serves as an electronic footprint for online predators and thieves to use against them. The CCS' "SafetyNet" presentation is an interactive program that highlights the issues and consequences surrounding cyber-bullying and sexting, and utilizes a real-life story to demonstrate how easy it is for an Internet predator using very little personal information to track down a child victim. The CCS frequently gives these tailored presentation to teachers, parents, and elementary, middle and high schools across the Commonwealth.
