CHAIRMANS MESSAGE The Northern Region remains very strong and is poised to grow in both members and associates over the next few years. As we look towards the new year, we are engaged in laying down the foundations for the future of the region. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Regional organisation within the Society was set up nearly ten years ago now when as a committee we realised that there were a growing number of Regional members and distance prevented the majority of them traveling to London on a regular basis, which thus meant they were not realising the full potential of membership of the Society. The Society now has over 350 members, 100 of those being Regional members, the majority being based in the Scottish and Northern Regions where the Regional Committees have been set up. Whilst modern technology has made communication much easier, nothing can replace the personal contact and this is part of our motto Service Through Friendship Whilst we all receive requests on a daily basis via telephone or email and always do our best to fulfil them, if you have actually met that person face to face, you know that the request is genuine and you are more likely to go the extra mile knowing that you would receive the same in return. Being in the regions where the density of members is not so high, given the huge area, unlike London, it important that these contacts are maintained. Personally I have previously attended two Northern Regional meetings, one at the Lowry and the other at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool and I would like to see them continuing on a regular basis, and if possible with a presence from the Executive Committee. I would also like to thank all of the Regional Members who make the effort to attend the London meetings, some more often than some of the London Members! As with anything you get out of it what you put in. We all have busy schedules but we can always find time! In Service Through Friendship, Paul
