By Erica McClain
Heritage Media

Longtime Village Trustee Jim Carson is challenging incumbent Village President Shawn Keough this election. Carson, who has served on Council for nine years, announced his official bid in mid-July. He has thought about running for the villages top office before, but now the time is right, he told the Dexter Leader after officially filing. Heritage Media sent out an online questionnaire to both candidates regarding their run to office. Here is how the two responded:

Shawn Keough (I)

Occupation and education: Professional civil engineer licensed in the state of Michigan with a bachelor of science in civil engineering from University of Michigan Political affiliation: I evaluate all issues and candidates on their merits not their political affiliation.

A few years ago, I proposed a plan that outlined how we can fund this important public safety project and the time is nearing where we can take advantage of that opportunity. The opportunity for village residents to pay for a new or upgraded station without significantly changing our tax structure is coming in 2017 when our current General Obligation Bond for the downtown streetscape will be paid off. From top left, Bonnie Everdeen, Chris Gordon, Barbara Reed and Larry Cobler are all runnning for school board seats.

Voters within the Dexter Community Schools district will be seeing two familiar faces return to the Board of Education while deciding which candidate will take up a third, partial-term seat in the Nov. 6 election. Incumbents Larry Cobler and Bonnie Everdeen will go uncontested on the ballot for two, six-year term seats. Pending a successful write-in campaign, Cobler and Everdeen will automatically be elected to the seats. Barbara Read will challenge incumbent Chris Gordon for a partial-term seat on the board, which ends on Dec. 31, 2014.

The partial term stands separately on the ballot from the uncontested full-term seats. Candidates were asked to fill out an online questionnaire submitted by Heritage Media asking biographical information and three key issues they would seek to deal with as a trustee.
