Reading
In reading, weve been continuing to examine a characters point of view (how they think or feel) from different texts. We have studied the opposing views of two different characters in the same text, how our point of view can be different from a characters, and even how a characters point of view can change from the beginning of a text to the end of a text. We are looking forward to starting our study on fables, folktales, and myths next week and within those genres, specifically focusing on lesson and message. If you havent already sent in a family story for this unit, and you are interested in doing so, please send it in by next Monday (October 22nd). Thanks for your help! I.B.Unit: No Bones About It
In Science, weve started our study of the human body by looking closely at bones. We have been discussing the three main functions of bones to support, protect, and help us move. We are moving towards discussing muscles (which contract and extend in order to make the bones move) and joints (the places where two bones meet that allow people to bend.)

In math, we have been diving deep into geometry these last two weeks. Students have been studying types of lines (parallel, perpendicular), types of angles (acute, obtuse, right), polygons (triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, etc.), and types of triangles (acute, obtuse, right, isosceles, scalene, and equilateral) in order to be able to classify and categorize different polygons.

Writing
The students are continuing to learn the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) through writing a personal narrative. They have practiced revising their work (adding or subtracting words in order to make a piece of writing stronger), editing (Capitlization, Understanding, Punctuation, Spelling), and are moving towards the peer conferencing/publishing stage. Its quite exciting!
