The end of your PhD will happen at some point!!

The academic job market is competitive
Around 20,000 Doctorates are now awarded in the
UK each year and this doesnt equal the number of
academic jobs available so you need to make sure
you take advantage of development opportunities while
youre here at UWE!

There is also a world outside of academia in the

2010 Vitae report Doctoral graduate destinations
three years on only 41% of PhDs were in
academic roles

So, Like everyone else, you want to make sure you

have the edge on other job candidates once you
complete your PhD
You can build your academic and transferable skills
throughout your PhD:
Via Pauls Researcher Development Skills
workshops,
Through activities offered by the Careers Service,
By taking time to reflect on them with a Careers
Advisor.
During and after your PhD youll need to be able to
evidence your skills in your CV and job applications,
and to promote yourself through effective networking
