HARVEST BAPTIST CHURCH PRAYER DIARY NEW SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE TIMES 9:00 & 10:45A.M.

MONDAYEVANGELISTIC PRAYER Chronological Bible Reading: Jeremiah 1-3; 2 Timothy 3 Monday, October 22 Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Generous God Our Maker: Sometimes I am tempted to feel like I have asked for such large thingsthe soul of a friend or loved one, the health of somebody sick, the reversal of a grave injustice or misfortune. Yet my asking has been too short a stick to reach the bottom of your ability. Your mercy is deeper yet. Make it so for __________. At boldest and at best my prayers have many boundaries. I am often limited by my own sense of need. I barely know what I want. I have to be taught what to ask for or else I never ask correctly. My souls hunger is not keen enough yet to see your face in all its beauty. Sin blunts the edge of my spiritual appetite; therefore I cramp my own prayers. Thank you Lord, that you are not limited by my limited sense of need! I ask for bread and water, but behold you fix a feast. Is there a single promise of God that any child of God perfectly understands? I dont think so, because there is meaninga breadth and length and height and depthI have not recognized yet. You condescend to use human language, and while to me the words mean silver, to you the sense is gold. You never mean less than you say, but you always mean more than I think. For this let me magnify your name! Your power to bless is not bounded by my power to understand the blessing. Yes! My mountainous needs heap-up, end over end, to build a staircase like Jacobs ladder. It is no tower of Babelno matter how great my needs are, they will never top heaven. Your ability to bless is higher still. Lord, do exceedingly abundantly above for me today and our church. Give me faith to grip, and then to glorify you. Do this because Jesus is worthy of the honor that comes from your answers! Amen. A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING Chronological Bible Reading: Jeremiah 10-12; Titus 2 Thursday, October 25 2 Cor. 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. DOWN at the cross where my Savior died, Down where for cleansing from sin I cried, There to my heart was the blood applied; Glory to His Name! I am so wondrously saved from sin, Jesus so sweetly abides within; There at the cross where He took me in; Glory to His Name! Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin, I am so glad I have entered in; There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean; Glory to His Name! Come to this fountain so rich and sweet, Cast thy poor soul at the Saviors feet; Plunge in today, and be made complete; Glory to His Name! Glory to His Name, glory to His Name: There to my heart was the blood applied; Glory to His Name! Elisha A. Hoffman, 1878 TUESDAYFOCUS ON CHRISTS PRAYER LIFE Chronological Bible Reading: Jeremiah 4-6; 2 Timothy 4 Tuesday, October 23 Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. Lord Jesus My Savior: What will come to pass in my days? Will I seek the closet of prayer and avoid a public display? I want to get the blessings of God; help me present my prayers unspoiled by a desire for human observation. I will get alone with you to move your arm. If I fast I will not appear to fast to men. If I plead personally with you I will tell no one about that. May it be a secret between you and my own soul, because then I can claim the reward openly. Do not let me become a Pharisee who sounds his trumpet in the streets. Lord, you acted so as to prevent interruption of your prayer. You located yourself where you could pour-out your whole soul, and so sought the mountain. Sometimes no suite is suitable for my prayer. No room can house my intercessions. I have to walk with you while I pray, and pray to you while I walk. Nature becomes my temple when I am talking with you. I dont have giant hills and long shadows as my companions, but I still have the sweet ministries and movements of your Spirit and your word. No pomp of human ceremony can equal that. Let the winds (or even the air vents) bear the burdens of my sighs and tears on their willing wings today. Samson moved the giant pillars in the temple of the Philistines god. He was a dwarf compared to what I can be with you, because of what Jesus is for me. Jesus is still on the mountain interceding as I pray. Let me bow my life to his will as I ask your blessing. I seek you in the private place of my soul so I can move your hand. Let me do it throughout the night of the church age as I wait for the dawn of my full redemption. Amen. FRIDAY 40 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR HARVESTKIDS Chronological Bible Reading: Jeremiah 13-15; Titus 3 Friday, October 26 1 John 3:21-22 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. God Our Confidence and Guide: Childlike faith makes us pray like nothing else can. It causes us to petition without reservation for great things we would otherwise never ask. It also makes us pray for little things many other people never ask for. Give us today the confident dependence of a child. Do not let us believe that somehow great things are worthy of your attention, but mundane things, small things, childlike things are not. No, because everything is the small stuff to you! What we really need is to have a constant communion over things both great and small. What is very important to a child may be small to his parent. But how many times does the parent graciously measure the request, not from his own point of view, but from that of the child? So when we cry bitterly over a splinter, we do not expect you to call in three surgeons to extract it. But it is still a great pain to this little sufferers heart. Our eyes stand wide with tears of anguish. Let it never occur to us that any pain is too small a thing for you to care about. Thats what fathers are made for, to look after the little concerns of their little children. Thats exactly how you love us. Our heavenly father is a good Father. Psa. 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. The Bible lets us know you count the stars and call them all by name. So also bind-up our broken-hearted and heal their wounds today. We will bring great things and little things to you, knowing you are worthy of as much confidence as we can ever place in you. Thank you for showing us your heart. Amen. WEDNESDAYREVIVAL PRAYING Chronological Bible Reading: Jeremiah 7-9; Titus 1 Wednesday, October 24 Isa. 56:5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. O Lord God My Creator: Have a desire toward the work of your hands (Job 14:15). You made me and fashioned me; do not let me be destroyed (Job 10:8). You are my Governor and my King. The haters of your honor and of my soul have surrounded me. To whom should I fly for protection but you? Are you not my Father? Have you not called me one of your children? Why should I look like someone cast out of your sight, or like someone who belongs to the family of Satan? Do you not have the mercies of a father with tender compassions for me? Not one of your poor, helpless and weak children can be forgotten. You are my God in the covenant, and the God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, by whom that covenant is ratified. Under all those relationships I plead with you for all necessary mercies for revival. Enlighten me Lord, and pardon me. Sanctify my soul and bestow grace and glory on me according to the word of your promise, on which you have caused me to hope. Remember that your word is already fulfilled in heaven; it is recorded among the articles of your decrees. It says I have to receive light and love, strength and joyand you are not an unfaithful God. What if heaven and earth pass away? Yet your covenant stands on two unmovable pillars: your promise and your oath. So now I flee for refuge to lay-hold on the altar-horns of this hope; let me have strong comfort from it. Remember the covenant made with your Son in eternity past, and let the promised mercies of revival be bestowed on me according to my needs. This I ask so that Jesus might be glorified more and more. Amen. SATURDAYIN THE PSALMS Chronological Bible Reading: Jeremiah 16-18; Philemon Saturday, October 27 Psa. 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. Lead Me, O Lord: Psa. 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; Like a child is led by his father, or a blind man is helped by his friend. Psa. 5:8 make thy way straight before my face. Make THY way Lord, not MY way, straight. Help me learn to give up my own way and long to walk in your way. Guide me into righteousness because of my enemies, and teach me to beware of the wicked. There are many human anteaters who, with their long tongues covered with sticky words, entice and entrap so many. Lord, lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil because of them. Joy is my privilege as a believer. Because I love you Lord, therefore I delight in you. I feast every day when I feed on you. You give me music in the house, music in the heart, and music yet for heaven. You are my strength and my song because youve become my salvation. Psa. 6:2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. I have sorrow, humiliation, and hatred of my sin. Let those be the marks of a contrite spirit before you. Do not withhold your rebuke, for then I lose a blessing in disguise. I need the Spirits conviction, not to be condemned, but in order to be sanctified. Sweeten your chastisements with the knowledge they are not administered in anger but in love. I know my sins too well to think of my own merit, or appeal to anything but your grace. And so I make my appeal this day. Psa. 6:4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies sake. For it is in Jesus name I make this plea. Amen.

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the same things over and over. This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the Bible chronologically in a year. Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying. Alan

GIVE GOD THE FIRST PART OF EVERY DAY. The first commitment is to a daily quiet time with God. Our weekly Prayer Diary provides a template for daily devotions. 2) TITHEWORK 1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DIME OF EVERY DOLLARno questions asked. Ten percent is a miniscule amount in our affluent society, but it must come off the top in order to show that God is our priority. We want the blessing of the firstfruits (first devotion, first dime and first day) to flow out to the rest of our resources. 3) TEAMWORD Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK. You should fellowship with a group of believers around the word of God every Sunday in our church.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had prayed. Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition. God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son. Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
