1 Activities in FY2009
CO2 Emissions Reduction (energy conservation)
We promoted more efficient use of energy and further reduction of redundant energy through all stages from supply to use. As a result, regardless of the decreased production volume, we greatly reduced CO2 emissions per unit of production and achieved our target.

Waste Reduction
We promoted not only the activity to reduce the volume of waste but also efficient use of resources including the reduction of the number of defect parts and yield improvement of stamping parts, resulting in the intensity target achievement.

VOC Emissions Reduction

In order to achieve the intensity target, we promoted the following activities. - Improvement of paint-adherence efficiency - Reduction of the volume of cleaning solvent used - Switching paints to water-borne type

Communication with the Local Community

Community council meetings were held, where environment conservation activities were introduced and the waste water treatment facility tour was conducted. Also, total 3050 employees and their family members participated in the Clean Volunteer Activity (4 times/year) sponsored by Tahara City to carry out a large-scale clean-up activity. On the "DAY to promote beautify activities in Tahara City" in June, many employees engaged in cleaning Shiroya Beach nearby and collecting driftage along the mouth of Shiokawa and Omotehama Coast in November and December *1 , which received positive feedback from local residents. *1 Clean-up activity at Omotehama Coast (Dec. 2009)

* 2 Afforestation activity in the plant (Mar. 2010)

Sustainable plant Afforestation activity*2

Starting with a tree-planting at the plant entrance in March 2009, we have planted trees at every entrance (3 divisions: 540 trees) and around the test-drive course (2100 trees). From the viewpoint of harmonious coexistence with the local society, we chose native tree species (Castanopsis, Machilus thunbergii, etc.) to plant.

None

Discharged Water Quality Data

Substances subject to PRTR

* The control values for BOD and SS show the highest value (daily average). * Discharged water volume unit: /day * All figures are shown in mg/L except for the pH item. * The unit of total nitrogen and total phosphorus is kg/day. * There are some other parameters whose actual measurements are below the detectable level. They include the following: phenol, cadmium, cyanide, organophosphorus compound, chromium (VI) compound, arsenic, total mercury, alkylmercury, polychlorinated biphenyl, total chromium, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, dichloromethane, carbon tetrachloride, 1, 2-dichloroethane, 1,1-dichloroethylene, cis-1, 2-dichloroethylene, 1, 1, 1- tricholoroethane, 1, 1, 2- trichloroethane, 1, 3- dichloropropene, thiuram, simazine, thiobencarb, benzene, and selenium

* Unit: kg/year* Unit for dioxins: mg-TEQ/year * Volume removed: the volume of substances that are incinerated, neutralized, broken down, or changed to other substances in the particular plant * Consumption volume: the volume of substances that changed to other substances through chemical reactions, or are contained in or accompanied with products and transported outside the plant * Volume generated: substances that are generated unintentionally * Landfill within site: the volume of substances disposed of as landfill waste on the plant site * Amount of dioxins handled: So mentioned because the manual for estimating the amount of substances released from the PRTR pilot business says that the concept of "handled" in a broader sense also covers what has been generated unintentionally from business activities.

13 Sustainability Report 2010

* pH: Hydrogen ion concentration * BOD: Biochemical oxygen demand * COD: Chemical oxygen demand * SS: Concentration of suspended solids in water
