Lent A Time of Renewal

Short Prayer Service Leader: All: O God come to my assistance. O Lord make haste to help us. Let us pray for the grace to keep Lent faithfully. Brief Pause L ord, protect us in our struggle against evil. As we begin the Lenten season, we hope that through our prayer, fasting and special actions that we will closer to you. May it truly be a time of growth and renewal both here at our agency and in our homes. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. Amen. Gospel of Mark 6:31-32. J esus said to his apostles, Come by yourselves to an out-of-the-way place and rest a little. People were coming and going in great numbers, making it impossible for them to so much as eat. So Jesus and the apostles went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. (Pause) The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ. L ent is a time of renewal through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As we reflect on this reading and the season of Lent, let us take time to reflect upon on our personal needs for growth. As we do this, let us turn to God and ask for his assistance in charting out a plan for this Lent. Intercessions for the world, the Church, and the work of the agency (as well as other intentions). Help us, God our savior, rescue us for the honor of your name. A ll through these days let us be quiet and prayerful, pondering the mysteries told in the Scriptures. In the cross, we have been claimed for Christ. In Christ, we make the prayer that fills these days of mercy: Our Father Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.
