Sometimes when you believe the impossible

A mission by the community for the community

Our purpose is to upgrade the existing

athletic stadium to meet the needs of the 21st century athlete and spectator. We hope to advance the charitable successes of our predecessors and build a sustainable facility that will fulfill our programmatic and athletic needs.

Gene Davis Field

1956- Gene Davis graduated from Avon Grove HS where he was a letterer in Soccer, Basketball & Baseball Gene later attended WCU and was named to All American Soccer Team. From 1961-1985 Coach Davis amassed a record of 226-92-36 while coaching at Octorara High School. Coach Davis teams garnered 9 League Championships (SCCL) and was the founder of the Octorara Youth Soccer Program.

Richard Doc Diller, Octorara Science Teacher : 1957-1984; Head Track Coach 1961-1984 & Head Cross Country Coach: 1958-1984. Amassing a total of 15 League Championships & 3 District Titles. (SCCL) 1993 Rubberized Track surface and French drain is installed. In order to pay for this, the Stees family mortgaged their farm. Additional funds were raised by the Track Boosters.

1997- Stadium Lights- The stadium lights are purchased by funds raised by the Soccer Club. The lights were installed by a joint effort involving the 211th Engineering Installation Squadron of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard (Indiantown Gap, PA) and Mr. Sam Ganow of J. Ray Patterson in exchange for lunch. 1998- Concession Stand- Built by donated money and labor from the Soccer Club.

2000-Press Box-Built by Mr. Cliff Blantz with the help of five student volunteers. 2012 Coach Tibor LeHotay & others complete a concession stand renovation project. Time & Materials all donated @ an estimated cost of $9800.00 2007Football program initiated and privately funded.

We believe there is an intensifying need for a quality stadium to serve the growth and development of the Octorara School Districts athletic programs. These programs have historically been directly supported by the community through generous donations of time and labor.

Octorara School districts cocurricular athletic programs have proven themselves to be a vital ingredient to the success of the districts student athletes. As of Fall 2012 - 27 percent of OHS Students involved in athletic programs vs total enrollment, fall semester 2012.

The lack of sustainability

It all starts with a big pile of dirt

1.) Pretreatment of existing playing surface 2.) New sub-surface and proper drainage 3.) Screened topsoil and crowning of field 4.) New soil pretreatment, to include fertilization 5.) Installation of Sod 6.) Above surface irrigation system.

Securing funds for the cost of the sod, current projected price of $85,000

The Field Development Task Force has applied for 501c status through the IRS
Development of a fundraising program to raise the necessary funds to cover the cost of the sod

Remediation of existing playing surface to begin immediately at the conclusion of the 2012 Fall Sports Season. Continuing with soil preparation sub-surface drainage system. Installation of topsoil, fertilization and crowning of field to be completed prior to Holiday Break Over winter soil treatment and or protection if required. March 2013 Installation of sod Competition ready by May 2013

The stadium task force asks the School Board for a loan of up to $85,000 in order to maintain our aggressive timeline schedule. The task force is fully vested in achieving the goal of upgrading the current playing surface to a more sustainable field. Long term goals include but not limited to.
ADA Compliant Stadium Bleachers 360 Degree Fencing Resurfacing Existing Track Surface Continued Concession Stand Improvements Fully Synthetic Playing Surface
