Age College Class Essay

Akanksha Devinath Mhatre 20 years V.E.S. College of arts, science and commerce T.Y.Bsc- Biotechnology Swami Vivekanands Contribution Towards Youth Empowerment.

Swami Vivekanands Contribution Towards Youth Empowerment A few heart-whole, sincere and energetic men and women can do more in a year than a mob in a century. Swami Vivekanand, the name itself describes him as a messiah of righteousness and truth. The each word he quoted has worth thousands of pearls. He had a vision that could cross even the horizons of every dimension. Of his many thoughts, the one mentioned above too has a golden deep sense. The quote says that an organized and planned man would surpass a disorganized mob in the race of life. And one would agree with this thought from the example of Indias slavery and Independence. The disorganized, divided and weak crowds of three hundred million Indians were enslaved at the hands of forty millions Englishmen for almost a hundred years. And thereafter, with the inspiration of handful of heart-whole, sincere and energetic men and women, India got freedom in 1947. This victory should make us believe the fact of how simple thoughts of Vivekanand created remarkable impressions. And hence, to the youth of the past, the present and the future he was, is and will remain the sun source of inspiration that aims to clear lingering fear and lethargy. Narendra Nath Dutta was the name of Swamiji in his pre-monastic life. He was born in Kolkata on 12th January 1863 in an affluent family wherein his father, Vishwanath Dutta was a successful attorney while his mother Bhuneshwari Devi was a religious and devoted woman. Ever since his childhood, the boy had a yogic temper and used to practice meditation. Later in his life he became a disciple of Ramkrishna Paramhans who discovered the spark of revolutionary thoughts in young Narendra and named him Swami Vivekanand. As a monist Swamiji travelled India and was moved deeply by the crises of poverty and backwardness among masses. According to Swami Vivekanand, the masses needed two kinds of knowledge: secular knowledge to improve their economic condition and spiritual knowledge to infuse in them faith in themselves and strengthen their moral sense. Thus, Swamiji wanted to carry out his plans for the spread of education and for the uplift of the poor masses, and also of women. He realized that an efficient organization of dedicated people was needed. As he said later on, he wanted to set in motion, machinery which will bring noblest ideas to the doorstep of even the poorest and the meanest. It was to serve as this machinery that Swamiji founded the Ramakrishna Mission a few years later. In early 1898 Swami Vivekananda acquired a big plot of land on the western bank of the Ganga at a place called Belur to have a permanent abode for the monastery and monastic Order originally started at Baranagar, and got it registered as Ramakrishna Math after a couple of years. Here Swamiji established a new, universal pattern of monastic life which adapts ancient monastic ideals to the conditions of modern life, which gives equal importance to personal illumination and social service, and which is open to all men without any distinction of religion, race or caste. A young man of 19th century could change the face of society to such an extent that he is being yet praised by people not only within Indian borders but also in the foreign lands. Thus, life of Swami Vivekanand makes you feel that, The youth is a catalyst of an endless reaction, They can bring greatest change in every generation, The youth can break the medieval thoughts within a fraction, They have a power to create age of justice in worldly jurisdiction. This is why Swamijis birth anniversary is celebrated as National Youth Day as he instills a picture of strong leader of youth for every generation.

Youth Empowerment is not a paper work wherein the United Nations declares the International year of youth. It is a process of creation of strong people that are expected to have vibrant energy to catalyze the development of nation. Creating people is far more difficult that establishing an industry. Youth empowerment is a revolution which if successful will put back the social evils and economic fall outs. Nation of great youth will arise with pride and turn a superpower. Hence, to have a product called successful nation, the quality of raw materials- present youth should be the best. Swamijis principles mark the greatest word of inspiration in heart of youth only because these are free of political conspiracy and they contain truth for every age. Brave, bold people, these are what we want. What we want is vigor in the blood, strength in the nerves, iron muscles and nerves of steel, not softening namby-pamby ideas. Swamji wanted people with strong skills and not merely dreams and ideas. Because, each individual knows how to dream and create an idea but only few have skills to bring their dreams to life. It is easy to create model of a building using a cardboard. You can decorate it with glowing paints and furnish it with toys. Obviously, making a building of concrete-bricks-andiron is far more challenging. Hence, a youth is expected to create concrete setups which can be seen by many rather than blabbering irrational ideas. Swami Vivekanand as a youth was extremely curious in knowing reasons behind beliefs. His inquisitiveness made him a visionary and a person with clear vision. He gave prime importance to gaining knowledge and had read lot about Western philosophy and history. He propagated about religion to be a process and not a practice. He interpreted religion to be a transcendent reality common to all humanity. This means that a person with any faith can become successful if he has discovered the depth of the religion. Swamji also mentioned that religion is a science of consciousness. Thus, whatever is a part of religion today has some scientific base. Hence, each individual should look upon the rational fact behind practicing something rather than discriminating on others practices. Any religion is a pursuit of supreme freedom, supreme knowledge and supreme happiness. So the youth must cement the gaps in society by following the essence that every faith and religion has in it. Change is always subjective. All through evolution you find that the conquest of nature comes by change in the subject. Apply this to religion and morality, and you will find that the conquest of evil comes by the change in the subjective alone. That is how the Advaitic system gets its whole force, on the subjective side of man. Swamiji believed that, that what is a part of religion has a deep root of reason. The adaptations in the religion are the consequences of evolution in the nature or may be related with conserving the nature and promoting human health. If one has noticed the significance of any festival celebrated by a religious system you would vouch that it has a scientific background. For instance, the festival of Sankranti or Sankranthi marks the transition of the Sun into Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path. Traditionally, this has been one of many harvest days in India. Advaitic knowledge is a deeper and intense sense of a philosophical thought. So if a religious script mentions about Sati practice it doesnt mean pushing a widow into the pyre of her dead husband. Rather it means of cremating the body of dead as the master of the body (soul or Atman) has left. People are simply misled by the superficial thoughts. Hence, a youth must draw in wealth from the wells of religions with the rope of truth and bucket of wisdom. Feeling is believing is a well known proverb but very few of us actually known whether it works. Swami Vivekanand said that life is the way you feel it. The feeling and not any intellect has so much power and strength to reach the goal. When a person begins feeling for a thing he eventually starts working towards it. The law is pretty simple and each one of us has already practiced it. A toddler, who has not walked his first step, looks at people around him. He then starts feeling to walk the way people walk and then attempts to stand. Although he fails many times yet some day he successfully walks. Hence, the toddler was guaranteed a success the day he felt to walk. So, feeling

itself is a strong contender in successful life. When we let loose our feelings, we waste so much energy, shatter our nerves, disturb our minds, and accomplish very little work. Your feelings are like a torch set ablaze. One should make a good use of the burning torch before it extinguishes. Setting loose your feelings is like carelessly throwing the torch on the pile of dry hay. Consequences would be mere wastage of energy and that would surely be disturbing. Hence, when feelings are fresh enough, a thinking process should begin in you. This would make you complete 80% of your task. Rest 20% is the sum of your planning, caliber and hardwork. Society becomes weak when its youth fall down on their feet. Its always said that many failure amounts to wider success. And a present failure is a key to improve you. Though repetitive tides of failure make us lose hope but one shouldnt forget that, every dark cloud has a silver lining. In Swamijis words, he addresses, Strength, strength it is that we want so much in this life, for what we call sin and sorrow has all one cause, and that is our weakness. With weakness comes ignorance, and with ignorance comes misery. Its very easy to give up but what is most appreciated is facing the failure with counter strike of better efforts. When one grieves and feels weak in the crowd, there are people who would take an advantage. At such a time one must inspire self by showcasing his greatest strength. Relating to the experience which Swamiji met on his famous visit to Chicago, I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth. Saying this he strengthened his weakness that he belonged to a nation which was ruled over by British Raj. All power is within you. You can do anything and everything. Believe in that. Do not believe that you are weak; do not believe that you are half-crazy lunatics, as most of us do nowadays. Stand up and express the divinity within you. Many a times a lost cricket match is won at the last ball, and you think it is a miracle. Nevertheless, anything can happen in the game of cricket, but the fact cannot be ruled out that there is a great power in an individual. If people can reach moon, then it is not surprising that many others have climbed the Everest. So, it is not important how far is your goal, if you are able to see it clearly. Hence, strength within heart and power in soul is the only thing you need, to carve yourself the idol of success. They alone live who live for others, the rest are more dead than alive. The quote calls upon people to work for others too. Every individual has a natural tendency to look what benefits him the best. But, along with the routine practices one must also look after people around him. Its not necessary to put your efforts into any social service. But remember, Charity begins at home. An individual should at least look after people who make up his family, or are in same occupational firm, or make up a student-teacher relationship. Love is always mutual and reflective. You may hate me, and if I want to love you, you repulse me. But if I persist, in a month or a year you are bound to love me. It is a well-known psychological phenomenon. Swamiji thus explains how love can bridge even greatest gap between people. This love is never wasted because it guarantees you hands that come forward to help you in hazards and hearing ears in distress. Always remember never a person is bad or ruthless, the only thing is he is blinded by the evils. The terrorists that we fear today are not strong people. Rather they are the weakest section of global society who lack all lovable feeling and have resorted to harm. Expand your vision and look at the earth as a global family. Then, you will find no aliens in this world. A program was showcased long back on Discovery channel named The lioness heart. The program showed how a lioness cared for the fawn of deer like her own cub. She didnt even care for her own life but protected the fawn as better as a mother could. The lioness was starved to death as she never went to hunt because it would mean leaving the fawn alone. The difference the lioness showed us is that if carnivorous animal could feel soft at heart for the baby deer, why do we humans act like red bulls of war with people of same specie? Are we vultures that feel delighted at somebodys trembling situation? A human is foreseen as a humble animal and hence we say do

humanity. We are expected to be wise and merciful. Do not hate anybody, because that hatred which comes out from you must, in the long run, come back to you. If you love, that love will come back to you, completing the circle. When Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross, he prayed the Lord Almighty, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. A person who had been exploited to such an extent could forgive the Pontius Pilate , then why do we have bitterness alive within us. Give love, give help, give service, give any little thing you can, but keep out barter. Make no conditions and none will be imposed. Let us give out of our own bounty, just as God gives to us. Remember, a great is the one who has a heart full of patience, love and mercy for others. Above all, beware of compromises. Hold on to your own principles in weal or woe and never adjust them to others fads through the greed of getting supporters. Your Atman is the support of the universewhose support do you stand in need of? One must compromise vice to achieve good values while for other reasons compromising the good in you would be a big mistake. Any compromise that would guilt your inner soul is not correct. Some compromise with truth and become corrupt, while others compromise with hard work and fail. People cripple their self confidence and fail to raise voice against injustice. The revolutionary Anna Hazare could draw the attention of many youth that an old man among them did not compromise to ask what his fellow people of nation deserved. So, why should we not come forward and be aware of our rights. If you are working for nation as whole then you need not run out to find supporters. Your Atman itself stands right to support you to raise your confidence. What would you call a flower which has compromised with its fragrance, the sun which has compromised the light, the honey which has compromised its sweetness and the breeze that has compromised its coolness? The very meaning of the self dissolves if you compromise with voice that speaks out to you from your heart. It says, Raise up! Iam born as a human to create a great epoch. So, in whatever profession you be, never compromise with the feeling that you are a human being and are above other animals. Its a shame to cheat yourself by resorting to corrupt ways of life. While beautifying your own life, do not make others life a hell. If each of the youth today resolves to preserve the goodness without compromising, then the future is truly laudable. Every great man is lead by finest teacher. The Vedanta and puranas say one must behold a guru, to achieve success in life. Here success doesnt mean a successful career; it means to have a satisfactory and happy life. A rich person would never say that he is satisfied. No richness can buy inner sense of comfort or satisfaction. Only a spiritual guidance makes you realize that although one should put efforts to achieve a materialist need but to enjoy them you require peace in the mind. So a spiritual guide makes you realize the reason why the framework of the family is destroyed, what makes a couple to depart from each other and who creates hurdle in your career and job. The cause of all problems lies within you and not outside in the world. A spiritual guide would help you to discover the evils in you viz. lust, anger, greed, deep emotional attachment, arrogance and jealousy. These evils when used in excess create most of the problems that we come across. Have faith in Guru, in his teachings, and in the surety that you can get free. Think day and night that this universe is zero, only God is complete. Have intense desire to get free. The freedom from the clutches of evil is the greatest satisfaction and there is a feeling of God in it. In the ages of Saints in Maharashtra, Saint Namdeo was a well known saint of that time. Lord Vitthala Himself used to emerge in His divine form to talk to Saint Namdeo. But one such day, the Lord asked this Saint to look out for a spiritual guide. It was surprising for the Saint as to why wander in the search of a guru as he had the Lord Himself for him. Vitthala explained him that, although eyes perceive the Lord in the idol, the guru provides you the vision to see God in each and every thing that is the part of His world. Only Guru would make you feel the heaven within you and would help you to preserve it. All that is real in me is God; all that is real in God is I. The gulf between God and human beings is thus bridged. Thus we find how, by knowing

God, we find the kingdom of heaven within us. Above all it is important to recognize a good guru because nowadays there are many fake-gurus who loot the innocents. A guru can be ones parents too. Mother is the guru for every child. Moreover, she is the one who knows you the best. Hence, a guru is the founder of the path of enlightenment. If superstition enters, the brain is gone. Education of earning degrees cannot guarantee an individual a freedom from superstition. Although we have learnt in books that superstition prevailed in India in ages of Kings yet there are many more instances that show that the germ of superstition was never killed. A rich and well educated man with a Mercedes would reluctantly tie lemon-chilies to his expensive car and would hope that it will provide enough protection. A recent news shocked many hearts that parents killed there young kids at the demand of black magician in order to drive in money in their life. This is how superstition blinds the eyes of well educated nuts. A young mind should be free from the clutches of superstition or else many evils will start to replace noble thoughts within him. Hence, along with routine education, knowledge of truth is always needed. Truth, purity and unselfishnesswherever these are present, there is no power below or above the sun to crush the possessor thereof. Equipped with these, one individual is able to face the whole universe in opposition. Every action that we attempt to do must be coupled with guarantee that it is correct. Nothing is achieved in life without hardwork, and no magic can bring you success. God does not like sacrifices of his own people. That is the job of devils. How sad that Gods own creation is ready to destroy truth by blindfolding with the cloth of superstition? What is done is done. Throw off superstition. Have no weakness even in the face of death. Be free. Any superstition is like a handcuff of steel which permanently imprisons you. Hence by throwing off the superstition you must set yourself free. Superstition is our great enemy, but bigotry is worse. Be it a greatest filmstar or a greatest businessman, one who has not won a battle with superstition has a feeling of hollowness lingering within. Many a times we come across masses conducting yagnas and havans to please the Rain God. Does their act have any moral base? Lord Krishna himself denied practicing havans to please the Rain God. Thus, the lord Himself is so free of superstitions and yet people fall prey to the ill-beliefs. We get caught. How? Not by what we give but by what we expect. We get misery in return for our love: Not from the fact that we love but from the fact that we want love in return. There is no misery where there is no want. Desire, want, is the father of all misery. Desires are bound by the laws of success and failure. Desires must bring misery. Swami Vivekanand through the above quote addresses to youth that the doors of happiness is locked by the keys of continuous desires. We always tend to sketch the picture of life with the colors of desires. The expectations, want and desires are the seas without the essence of satiation. Desire is the killer of sanctity. Failure to achieve something makes people destroy their own life. Disturbance in family life make people kill each other. Does the summer last for all 12months, or is there an earthquake every day? Nature itself shows how dynamic it is. Although we may experience droughts, there would always be days of spring. One who desires a comfortable and nice life and at the same

time wants to realize the Self is like the fool who, wanting to cross the river, caught hold of a crocodile, mistaking it for a log of wood. Swamiji explains how certain desires become hurdle in the path of self enlightenment. The extreme desires of Dhritarashtra to get himself crowned as a king were inherited in his son Duryodhana and these desires made him attempt the greatest sins. Ultimately, the desires made Dhritarashtra the murderer of his hundred sons. Desires are bound by the laws of success and failure. Desires must bring misery. The great secret of true success, of true happiness, is this: the person who asks for no return, the perfectly unselfish person, is the most successful One should aim to have something but should not be disappointed for not having the things the way he desired. For you might get vegetables for the demand of soup or just get wheels for the demand of car. Desires fulfilled at a stroke are never cherished for long. Attempts and attempts made to achieve something make a great mark in your memory. Success cannot be categorized as small or large. It is always great since behind every victory are the hands of efforts. Hundreds of mistake can be corrected, Thousands of battle be won, But always remember the fact that, Life once lost would never return Young generation of today is always in search of short cuts. In this age of short cuts, timetable of exams are noted by the cameras in cell phones, theory papers have been reduced to multiple choice questions, long meetings are converted to online conference and physical on-ground games are replaced by finger exercising PC and mobile games. For the youth who have been brought up in this age, hardship is the unknown flavor of the fruit. On the contrary, only few of them are actually able to find that fruit in their garden. The simple summary of this is, hardworking and successful parents hardly have similar qualities in their children because most of them enjoy the fruits of their parents hardwork without realizing the efforts behind it. Ultimately, these individual cannot put in efforts if they are asked to work for the things they want. For them Swamiji wishes to say that, We must plunge heart and soul and body into the work. And until we are ready to sacrifice everything else to one Idea and to one alone, we never, never will see the Light. Rome was not built in a day, hence, great tasks never happen overnight. The Taj Mahal, a marvelous architecture took seventeen toiling years to complete. The huge pyramids of Giza took several generations of Pharaohs to achieve their intense magnitude and incredible height. These examples are enough to prove the truth of the saying. Similarly, if one desires for richness and comforts in his life, these will too come slowly in ones life. Remember, never attempt short cuts and resort to unfair practices to achieve things. What is earned with true efforts will remain; rest that is got by criminals play will ultimately reach the hands of the owner. Hence, patience and perseverance is what we need to develop within ourselves. Who will give the world light? Sacrifice in the past has been the law; it will be, alas, for ages to come. The earths bravest and best will have to sacrifice themselves for the good of many, for the welfare of all. Does sacrifice always means sacrificing life? Obviously not, because most of us think that dedicating ourselves to the protection of nation is a sacrifice. Perhaps, it is the greatest sacrifice but not the only. Donating our time and efforts would be called a sacrifice too. Nobody has asked you to leave your routine duties and become a monk. A person who can handle his life and yet manage to do social service would be regarded as the greater well-wisher. In past, sacrifice meant a punishment to a person or it was a part of an ill-ritual. Today, the meaning of sacrifice has changed. We want people who would fight the injustice, who would vouch to protect the nation from evil acts,

who would preserve peace and who would establish a healthy government. For all these needs, you actually require people with greatest strength and willing to sacrifice themselves to these works. Everything must be sacrificed, if necessary, for that one sentiment. Swamiji says that, dedication is seen clearly through the glasses of sacrifice. If you sacrifice your time for the needy, then it is not merely a sacrifice; rather it is a great revolution that you are beginning. A good example that I remember is of Baba Amte and his family. The family of Amte renounced their lifes pleasures and dedicated their whole life to the welfare of people diseased of leprosy. Renounce! Renounce! Sacrifice! Give up! Not for zero. Not for nothing, but to get the higher. Sacrifice bitter feeling for sweet thoughts. Sacrifice laziness for hardwork. Sacrifice impatience for tolerance. Sacrifice greed for planned ambitions. Developing positive strength and sacrificing negation, will push you towards the path of righteousness. Swami Vivekanand as all know was born in an affluent family and could have enjoyed the same. But the power that he discovered within him was not craving for wealth but for satisfaction that he has worked for people. And that power today has enlarged to such an extent that the name of Vivekanand is a source of inspiration and of immortal ideals. The youth of today, is sweating hard for three things- wealth, fame and enjoyment. And then he feels, Oh! I have achieved enough for life. But when some or the other crises drives away his achievements he finds himself trapped in the cages of depression. This life comes and goes--wealth, fame, enjoyments are only of a few days. It is better, far better, to die on the field of duty, preaching the truth than to die like a worldly worm. The quote does not mean that one must not earn for his livelihood. It means, while working for earnings of materialistic life, one must also full fill his duty as a citizen and develop qualities that Swamiji cherished. So, the place of satisfaction has to be discovered. Materialistic achievement is bound to perish. Only the good name you earn will survive for long decades even if you perish. Of many ideals that Swami Vivekanand sets before the world, there are 15 most needed laws of life. We can try to follow them as and when possible. It is true that change cannot be brought at one stoke but we can always attempt to carry those laws with us. First law: Love is the law of life- The more we grow in love and virtue and holiness, the more we see love and virtue and holiness outside. All condemnation of others really condemns ourselves. Adjust the microcosm (which is in your power to do) and the macrocosm will adjust itself for you. With love you can banish away the ghost of hatred, enmity and suspicion. If love can win heart of animals you pet, it can surely work with humans who always crave for love and care. Second law: Your outlook matters- World is the way you look it. If you wear green glasses you see the world green and if red glasses are worn, you see the places red. Hence, be optimistic towards your life and you would see everything positive happening around you. Third law: Life is beautiful- The animal has its happiness in the senses, the human beings in their intellect, and the gods in spiritual contemplation. It is only to the soul that has attained to this contemplative state that the world really becomes beautiful. Flowers make garden a beautiful place. Hence, one should develop the noble thoughts that can make his life beautiful or should find the people that make his life beautiful. Fourth law: It's the way you feel- Feel like Christ and you will be a Christ; feel like Buddha and you will be a Buddha. It is feeling that is the life, the strength, the vitality, without which no amount of intellectual activity can reach God. Fifth law: Set yourself free-If you think that you are bound, you remain bound; you make your own bondage. If you know that you are free, you are free this moment. This is knowledge, knowledge of freedom. Freedom is the goal of all nature Freedom makes you think in all aspects. It also promotes wisdom as you do not feel bound to anything. But freedom doesnt mean exploiting it in wrong sense. Hence one should think before enacting. Sixth law: Dont play blame games- Stand up,

be bold, and take the blame on your own shoulders. Do not go about throwing mud at others; for all the faults you suffer from, you are the sole and only cause. Blaming is the greatest weakness. It makes you a liar in front of yourself. Taking responsibilities on your shoulders is the attitude of braves. Do not tempt yourself to weakness or else it will become a habit. Seventh law: Help others- You cannot help anyone, you can only serve: serve the children of the Lord, serve the Lord Himself, if you have the privilege. Eighth law: Uphold your ideals- Fill the brain with high thoughts, highest ideals, place them day and night before you, and out of that will come great work. Invention is not a miracle. It is the product of long research. When you think about a problem day in and day out, you finally achieve the right solution. For problem comes coupled with solutions, the only need is to search it. Ninth law: Listen to your soul- The touch of the soul can paint the brightest color even in the dingiest places; it can cast a fragrance over the vilest thing; it can make the wicked divine--and all enmity, all selfishness is effaced. To listen to your soul one should have calmness in mind. Throw all the tensions aside and try to listen to your soul. Its your soul that makes your heart beat a loud if youre attempting anything wrong. Tenth law: Be yourself- Hold fast to the real Self. Think only pure thoughts, and you will accomplish more than a regiment of mere preachers. Out of purity and silence comes the word of power. Being what you are means gaining self confidence. There is greater happiness in walking on the path that you have created rather than mimicking others. The only condition is you need to work hard. Eleventh law: Nothing is impossible- Many things which were thought to be impossible are seen as success stories. If you feel you can achieve it, then more than half of your work is done. Twelfth law: You have the power- Be not afraid, for all great power throughout the history of humanity has been with the people. From out of their ranks have come all the greatest geniuses of the world and history can only repeat itself. Be not afraid of anything. You will do marvelous work. You know yourself the best. Take advantage of your strength and work on your weakness, and feel the power in you. Thirteenth law: Learn everyday- You can learn from each and every animate and inanimate thing that you encounter. At the end of the day revise what have you learnt. This will make you a keen learner and philosopher. Fourteenth law: Be truthful- All truth is eternal. Truth is nobodys property; no race, no individual can lay any exclusive claim to it. Truth is the nature of all souls. Everything comes back to you. Be a liar and the life will lie to you. Be truthful and life will give you justice. You may hide the truth to people but yourself knows your deeds. Fifteenth law: Think different- Make a good unique attempt and make a difference. Novelty is always welcomed and is desired as it is a part of evolutionary process. One would raise a question that these principles, quotes and thoughts sound better to read but do people actually follow them? Can we become great by following them? The answer is yes, surely many people are following principles of Vivekanand. And as described above, a person will develop qualities which are globally praiseworthy. Inspired from contribution of Vivekanand, a group of medical students began a movement called Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM). It was in the year 1984 that a group of young medical students led by R.Balasubramaniam at the Mysore Medical College (in Karnataka State, India) began to feel that the career in medicine they dreamt of pursuing was very different from the practice of medicine around them. They believed that they had to make a difference and provide a helpful hand to the lives of the poor and the marginalized. And so, they started the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement with principles of high ideals and all the positive benefits of inexperience. SVYM is also rooted to its values of Satya, Ahimsa, Seva and Tyaga, which is reflected in its program design and delivery, transactions with its stakeholders, resource utilization, disclosures and openness to public scrutiny. Buying in support from the community, working in healthy partnership with the Government and corporate sectors and sharing its experiences with like-minded organizations have been the hallmark of SVYM's evolution over the past 27 years.

The headquarters is at Saragur, Karnataka whereas SVYM has established branches at Bangalore, Hassan, Dharwad, and Bijapur in India. Outside India, SVYM is working in North America and United Kingdom. A small seed of inspiration has grown to reach out to the limits of the sky. This is the miracle of Swamijis thoughts. Swami Vivekanand was a hero not only during his period but also for the present and future generations. A remarkable number of examples of people following him make us realize the strength of his spiritual thoughts. Jitish Kallat is a well known artist and is creating a site-specific installation at the Art Institution at Chicago that contains articles and publications on evolution or devotion of religious tolerance across twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Jitish says, "The basis of my installation is the landmark 1893 speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda at the Parliament of Religions, which was held in conjunction with the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, in what is now the museum's Fullerton Hall." Yvonne Malykke is the author of three books, a three-act play, is represented in four anthologies and has edited and contributed to two other books. She was co-founder and editor of the national magazine 'Cosmos. She says, Studying books of Swami Vivekananda awakened my spiritual consciousness. I was ready to go beyond ceremony, ritual and superstition to seek knowledge of the Infinite and to endeavor to understand the complexities of life and its illusions. Commodore S Shekhar, Naval Officer, presently promoter of Sanjivini Human Resource Institute says, There are many values that a military man cherishes, Vivekananda propagated these amongst youth. Aditya Maheswaran, Marketing Manager at Cognizant says that, Vivekananda is not just a spiritual person; he does not lay faith just on God but on human excellence. He used his own intelligence, his own thoughts and thats what really captivated me. Anna Hazare, the social activist and former soldier in the Indian army, was inspired by Swami Vivekanand and realized that the motive of his life lay in service to his fellow humans. Subhash Chandra Bose said that, "I was barely fifteen when Vivekananda entered my life, then there followed a revolution within and everything was turn upside down. C. Radhakrishna, a well known physicist says, I was a person who contradicted Vedic scriptures. It was my grandfather who introduced me to Vivekananda. In the light of Vivekananda's teachings, I combine ancient knowledge with modern Physics and try to verify the facts. I try to understand Bhagavat Gita and Upanishads in the light of modern technology and science and also analyze modern science in the light of ancient scriptures. Thus, learning the inspirational studies, it can be said that, A single thought of Great Man can bring success to millions. India has been yet recognized as a developing country. Though, the nation is the hub of great brains and youngest population, yet it is estimated that it would take more than a decade to make this nation a developed one. Moreover, the grey areas of poverty in India are so large that foreign men have started to make Oscar winning movies on it. So, does that mean we should be proud of it? It is the youth of the country who have to take the burden of uplifting the status of the country from developing to developed nation. Moreover, efforts should be made to make India as a superpower. There is need for channelizing the youth energy, the thoughts and efforts in right direction. There is need for grass root work wherein the future youth is preplanned as to how to take up the greatest task. Hence, Swami Vivekanands principles should be taught at school levels. Moreover, students should be provided with the examples of Youth movement in order to inspire them. Schools should carry awareness camps on the contribution of Swamiji. The councilors that are sought for the help of students should make the children built up their confidence. Youth Empowerment is an ongoing program carried by government of India. This program wouldnt be successful if youth lacks appropriate knowledge about it. Being a part of this nation, present youth is directly or indirectly participating in the program of Youth Empowerment. But, the

most important task is the feeling from within that should make the youth projected towards the goal. The task not only has to be carried over by the youth population of the city but also the rural youth must actively participate. The program of Youth Empowerment would be successful only when there are enough intelligent doctors in the hospital, well established industrialist, encouraging teachers in academics, efficient engineers and many more professionals. Moreover, a strong mind should be well coupled with strength in the hands and heart. The youth is a social section which if guided by great principles will deliver their best contribution. Nevertheless, a youth when guided by the light of evil and terrorism, it has the potential to drive havoc in the country. My name should not be made prominent. It is my ideas that I want to see realized. The disciples of all the prophets have always inextricably mixed up the ideas of the Master with person, and at last killed the ideas for the person. All the contributions of Swami Vivekananda to the youth and the society cannot be written in book. And if written, the book would have endless pages. Having such an unbeatable place as a social guide, yet Swamiji says it was just his duty and his name shouldnt be made prominent. The humbleness that he had is protector of his noble name. A single young man who lived only 39 years of his life could make remarkable contribution. Hence, following his mode of life shouldnt be difficult for 13.9 million crowds of Indian youth. The ambition of Youth empowerment could be achieved very soon if Principles of Vivekananda arise a morning sun of glory in our life. Let there be sown a seed of inspiration, In the land of great young man, To blossom the youth crowd of vision, Vision that says, We can, we truly can.
