The Young Directors Forum in Notts and Derbys is delighted to partner with the Institute of Engineering and Technology to bring you this event where Colin Walton and Richard Merrills will share their experiences of the worlds of business and engineering. Both are high calibre engineers who have achieved significant success as entrepreneurs and leaders. Hear about their approaches to leading creative, intelligent teams through critically analytical thinking, and solving problems through a systematic approach. Their golden tips for success can be applied in any business sector. Colin is the founder of CS Walton Consulting Ltd a consultancy specialising in strategic direction, particularly in the transport and local government sectors and supporting SME manufacturing companies. The former Chairman of Bombardier Transportation UK and Ireland, is also Chairman of the Railway Industry Association and of the Derby and Derbyshire Railway Forum (the latest cluster of railway companies in the world). Colin was the first Chairman of D2N2 (Local Enterprise Partnership) that includes senior business and political leaders. Richard joined British Rail in 1992 as an Apprentice Trainee Signalling Design Engineer, became the UK railways youngest Design Manager at 24, then the youngest Testing Manager at 26. He was head hunted to join a competitor and set up a new team of engineers of 20 staff within 6 months. He co-founded SigAssure UK in 2008 and since then has completed and brought 10 new inventions to the global rail market.
