Madonna (Osburn) Farrier Class of 1953

My memories of OHS are so good. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to attend this smaller school. I had caring teachers; Edna Hahn was held in esteem by all, she was firm, fun and truly cared about each of us. Others were Imogene Kolkhorst, Roberta Throckmartin, Dolly Martin, Lloyd Higgersen and Willis Weber. There was mutual respect between students and teachers, as well as discipline. Of course, the antics of some were very fun and appreciated (too many to name). School functions, such as football and basketball games, proms, "Half & Half" dances (older ones will know what these represent) were a part of our uncomplicated social life. Lifelong friendships were established. My classmates of "53" were very close; we were indeed friends -- we still meet annually to enjoy time together. In short, "Those Were The Days"!!! It will be sad to see the building gone.

Submitted for the "OHS: 90 Years of Memories" event held May 12, 2012, to commemorate Oakland High School in Oakland, Illinois.
