MAINTENANCE OF AXIAL FANS

TYPE AN : Maintenance Job between Scheduled Standstills Maintenance Job between Scheduled Standstills is routine jobs effected in order to check the proper functioning of the fans during operation. They are done in order to maintain the readiness for operation between scheduled standstills. Apart from lubricating the bearings after a specified interval (normally once in seven days ), routine recordings is made every 24 hours , in accordance with the operating records. Should a breakdown of other plant component results in an unexpected standstill of the fan this should be utilized for inspecting it. The following jobs are recommenced 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Check the impeller blades and inlet guide vane for wear. As this depends mainly on the solid matter contained in the gas, precise interval can not be given. Check the gap between the impeller balde and inlet branch. Make sure that operating the actuator results in a uniform setting of all inlet guide vanes. Check the articulated heads of the inlet guide vanes rod for wear, lubricate them if required. If vibration during operation are on higher side; balance the rotor o0f fan.

Maintenance jobs at scheduled standstills These are the jobs effected in order to enable trouble free operation of the fans until the next scheduled standstill. These jobs are recommended to be done every 8,000 to 10,000 service hours. The following jobs are recommended to be undertaken during scheduled standstills. Check the impeller for deposits, rust and wear, and clean it. Check the weld seams of the blades for cracks. Examine the main bearings. Check bearing clearance and operating noise.

Fill in new lubricants. Make sure the sealing elements function properly. Examine the coupling. Check and lubricate the articulated rods of the Inlet guide vane. Examine the inlet guide vane bearings. Clean the suction and discharge dust. Check Instrument tapping points for proper contact and tightness so that correct parameters monitored during operation. Experience on AN Fans Erosion :

Erosion is experienced on the housing of the impeller and outlet guide vanes in addition to that on impeller vanes. The erosion of the impeller blades is nearer to the top of the blade. The dished hub is not damaged by erosion. The out let guide vanes are of replaceable type and can be replaced during the operation of the fan. Vibration of the diffuser : This occurs very seldom and mostly due to bad foundation. Vibration ruptures on the impeller : This also seldom occurs, as the natural frequencies are well known and the operating range is known. While doing maintenance work the welding notches shall be checked for cracks. Main bearings : Excess unbalance will involve biting on the bearings. These bearings can also get damage if current flows through the fan. Inlet vane control : Wear on angular joints are to be checked and the same should be replaced during major overhaul. MAINTENANCE OF NDF RADIAL FAN Maintenance Job between scheduled standstill : The following checks are recommended whenever there is an opportunity between scheduled standstill. 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Check the Impeller for any deposits or damage. Check the clearance of the Impeller Check the inlet guide vanes for wear. Make sure that operating the actuator results in a uniform settling of all inlet guide vanes. Check the articulated heads of the inlet guide vanes for wear and lubricate them. Check the shaft sealing. Check the tightness of interconnecting and discharge damper so as to isolate one fan in emergency when T.A.set is on load.

Maintenance jobs at scheduled standstills: The following jobs are to be undertaken after every 8,000 to 10,000 service hours. 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Check the impeller. Check the bearings and shaft. In there had been periodic irregularity then bearings needs replacement. Make sure that the sealing elements function properly. Examine the coupling. Check and lubricate the articulated rods of Inlet guide vane .

6) 7)

Examine the Inlet guide vane bush bearings. Clean the suction and discharge ducts.

Maintenance of axial profile fan Maintenance jobs between Scheduled standstills : 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Check the impeller blades. Check the gap between the impeller blade and inlet branch. Make sure that servomotor is functioning properly, that there is no oil leakage from the oil lines. Check the coupling. Check the tightness of interconnecting and discharge damper for isolation of fan when T.A. set is on load.

Maintenance jobs at scheduled standstill : 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) Check the impeller blades for deposits and wear, clean it . if necessary the whole set of blades have to be replaced. Examine the bearings. If there had been inadequate running or vibrations on the higher side bearings needs replacement check the bearing clearances Examine the lubricant line and the functioning of the servomotor. Clean the in let filters , clean the suction and discharge ducts. Check the alignment of the couplings . Record the radial and axial clearances of the impeller . Check the tightness of screws fixing the blades. Check the screws with a torque spanner of 5-kpm torque.
