Pembroke Cashes In For Over $10,000

With a total 16 (2-7-7) points from his finishes in the three
segment 200 lap race Dave Pembroke won his second Milk
Bowl in ten years. Finishing second was Brian Hoar with 19
points who blew his engine in practice and just made it out for
the pace laps for the first segment. Hoar won that first segment
followed by Pembroke. Glen Luce finished in third with 29
points (14-14-1). In a reserve two segment milk bowl Travis
Stearns of Auburn, ME won with 4 points (2-2), Dave
Farrington second 7 points (3-4) and Joey M, Laguerre third
with 9 points (6-3). The Tiger Sportsmen Bobby Therrien of
Hinesburg won his divisions milk bowl with 3 points (1-2).
Eric Badore placed second with 13 points (7-6) and Tucker
Williams placed third with 13 points (5-8). Bunker Hodgon
Street Stock # 83 of Hardwick won his mini bowl with 4 points
(1-3) Nick Pilotte had 7 points (5-2) for second and Ben
Belanger had 10 points (4-6) for third. Thunder Road Track
Championships were decided in the Tiger Sportsman Bobby
Therrien took it with points won in this race over Brendan
Moodie. In the Street Stocks Nick Pilotte won over Dean
Switser, Jr.
After # 91 Patrick Laperle spun out in turn four # 31 NH Luke Hinkley had

Youth deer hunters who get a deer on the November 3 and 4
youth deer hunting weekend can help Vermonts deer management
program by reporting their deer at one of 23 biological check sta-
tions around the state.
Youth deer hunting weekend helps ensure that young hunters
get the quality training they need for lifelong participation, and it
also provides biological information needed to manage the herd
into the future.
The information collected from deer during the youth deer
hunting weekend is vital to deer management in Vermont, said
Vermont Fish & Wildlifes Deer Project Leader Adam Murkowski.
Our ability to assess the health of local deer herds increases with
the number of deer that are examined at biological check sta-
tions.
Youth hunters who bring their deer to a biological check sta-
tions will receive a youth hunter patch, be entered into a lottery
drawing for a new muzzleloader rifle, and have their picture taken
for a Youth hunt 2012 photo album that will be available through
the departments website.
Managing for deer herd health means monitoring the physical
condition of individual deer to ensure they are healthy, said
Murkowski. The Youth Deer Weekend is our best opportunity to
assess the physical condition of individual deer and examine the
demographics of the deer herd as youth hunters are allowed to
harvest any deer without sex or antler restrictions.
The mild winter combined with good fawning conditions means
population growth is expected in deer herds throughout Vermont
in 2012. Youth hunters and the adults accompanying them should
feel upbeat about the upcoming youth deer hunting weekend.
The Vermont fish and Wildlife department will have personnel
at the 23 biological check stations listed below during the youth
weekend November 3rd and 4th.

25. One legal buck with at least
one antler having two or more
points may be taken anywhere
in the state.
The antler regulation for a
legal buck is designed to
recruit more bucks and older
bucks into the population.
Hunters may take one buck
with at least one antler having
two or more points one inch or
longer. Spike-antlered deer are
protected except during the
youth deer weekend. A point
must be one inch or longer
from base to tip. The main
beam counts as a point, regard-
less of length.
Vermonts pre-hunt deer
population is estimated at
approximately 125,000 animals
this year with the greatest num-
bers of deer found in the south-
west, east-central, and north-
western regions of the state,
said Deer Project Leader Adam
Murkowski. Deer populations
have benefited from excellent
survival during the mildest
winter recorded over the last
four decades and good fawning
conditions during the spring
and summer.

Rifle Deer Season Starts Saturday, Nov. 10
Smart hunters choose fluorescent hunter orange. They know
they are safer and understand it helps preserve Vermonts hunting
heritage because no matter how rare, each hunting-related shoot-
ing reinforces the mistaken perception that hunting is dangerous.
Hunter orange is a choice in Vermont, said Chris Saunders,
Vermont Fish & Wildlifes hunter education coordinator. But
thats no excuse. In the past ten years, almost half of the states
hunting-related shootings might have been prevented with hunter
orange. Every one of these tragedies is a black eye for hunters.
Hunters moving into the line of fire of other hunters and mistak-
ing other hunters for game are two of the three most common
causes of the states accidents. Both types involve visibility prob-
lems, and both underscore the need for hunters to be seen, espe-
cially during the November rifle and December muzzleloader deer
seasons as well as the rabbit, hare and upland bird seasons.
Waterfowl, turkey and archery deer are exceptions, said
Saunders. But we still recommend hunter orange when you going
to and from your blind, treestand or calling spot.
Concerns that deer are scared by hunter orange are unfounded.
A deers vision is based on movement, patterns and color varia-
tions. Unlike humans, deer do not have multiple color receptors in
their eyes. They can see color, but their spectrum is limited. This
means deer must rely heavily on their ability to detect movement
over the ability to interpret color variations and patterns.
Regardless of how well they see it, ample anecdotal evidence
suggests they arent bothered by it. Yearly deer harvests in many
of the states that require hunter orange exceed the size of
Vermonts deer herd.
A hunter orange hat and vest provide the minimum coverage

Remember, hunting in Vermont is very safe, but it could be even
safer if all hunters choose hunter orange. Our hunting heritage

is now a two- time winner of Vermonts
most famous race, the Milk Bowl.
Pembroke endured Sunday to kiss the
beauty queen, win the 50th running of
the prestigious race and take home
more than $10,000 in prize money. Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar
came up just short through a day of major adversity to finish second, and
Maines Glen Luce earned third overall. 2012 ACT Champion Wayne
Helliwell, Jr. battled to fourth, and 7-time ACT Champion Jean Paul Cyr
rounded out the top five. In the first segment of the unique three-segment race
Brian Hoar cruised to the section win with Pembroke, 2012 King of the Road
Nick Sweet, and multi-time track Champion Cris Michaud on his heels. Jean
Paul Cyr powered through for the victory in segment two, while Pembroke
earned 7th, building an 8-point advantage over Hoar, Scott Payea, and multi-
time Thunder Road Champion Phil Scott. The gloves came off for the third
segment and on a late race restart, Pembroke held on to seventh, while Hoar
battled Turner, MEs Glen Luce for the win. Finally, Hoars car gave up the
ghost and faded to second, giving Pembroke a three point margin the slim
overall victory. Pembroke was beside himself in Victory Lane. I just took
your advice not to screw up, Ken. He said in victory lane to announcer Ken
Squier. Its been ten years since we won one of these. I cant believe it.
Imagine going head-to-head with a major racing event against the famed
Oxford 250- thats exactly what the American Canadian Tour and Airborne
Speedway announced on Sunday morning at Thunder Road. The International
500, a Late Model Open event, will roll off the line next July 20-21, 2013.
Highlighting the weekend will be a $25,000 to win three segment -300 Lap
Late model race in conjunction with 100 Lap DIRT Modified event and a 100
Lap non-qualifiers Late Model event. It appears PASS Director Tom
Mayberrys purchase of the Oxford Speedway a couple weeks ago and the
announcement that the Oxford 250 would mutate back to a Super Late Model
event has raised Tom Curleys dander. Were going to have the biggest week-
end of racing this region has ever seen on either side of the boarder, ever,
American-Canadian Tour president Tom Curley said. Were excited about
the prospects of it. Thats fine, we lose one race and thats not an issue for us,
we can replace those races ten times over, Curley said. We never had the
250, it wasnt us. What you saw was a blueprint of ACT on it with our influ-
ence over it. We fought with Oxford to get the tires down from 14, to 12,
down to eight last year. It bothers me we lost that big race. I fought hard to
get it. But up against the 250! I truly believed I was going to retire after (the
50th Milk Bowl), Curley said. I wanted to get through the 50th, and
35-years (in the business) will finish today for me. Im going to be 70-years-
old and cant do physically what Im used to doing. I think we can thank Tom
Mayberry for me sticking around for a few more years. I never had an issue
with Tom Mayberry, until he came after these cars. Booking his races is one
thing, and I didnt have an issue with them going to (Autodrome) Chaudiere.
My problem was when they started messing with the cars and then they want
to take us and knock us out of Quebec. My competitive juices have been
(high). I like a good fight and Ive never backed away from it. This is going
to be a battle. And maybe Ill lose this one, but itll be another chapter in the
book. Its going to take big gonads and huge promotion dollars to get New
England race fans to give up their 250 weekend but if anyone can do it a
fired up Tom Curley is probably the man.
Jimmie Johnson ran pole to pole Sunday to win the Tums Fast Relief 500,
and shake up the chase grabbing the points lead from Brad Keselowski.
Johnson held off a determined Kyle Busch after a late restart with five laps to
go to win for the seventh time on NASCARs slowest but toughest little race
track. Johnson made the occasion a points bonanza, leading the most laps and
earning three bonus points for the victory. Busch was second, followed by
Kasey Kahne, Aric Almirola, Clint Bowyer, Keselowski, Jeff Gordon and
Brian Vickers. As the championship battle tightened at the top, the five-time
series champion moved two points ahead of Brad Keselowski, whos sixth
place was his highest career finish at the track. But the race also basically
eliminated Denny Hamlin, who seemed poised to get in the thick of the points
battle by putting on a driving clinic while coming from the rear of the field
twice, and then had an electrical master switch fail that sent him to a 33rd
place finish and out of title contention. After his first pit stop, Hamlin was
penalized for entering pit road too fast, a penalty that relocated him to the
back of the lead lap and 31st place. Instantaneously, he started quickly work-
ing his way forward. After 200 laps, he was contending at the front and
essentially left pit road with the lead, but again, he was penalized for speeding
entering pit road, dropping him to the rear of the lead lap, this time 28th.
Hamlin continued the drivers workshop worming his way into the top five
until his problems dropped him 34 laps behind.
To Denny Hamlin, it was standard operating procedure at Martinsville
Speedway. To Matt Crafton, it was an unjustified bulldozer move. Regardless
of the point of view, Hamlin won Saturdays Kroger 200 with an aggressive
pass after a restart with eight laps left and showed no regret in claiming his
second victory at the .526-mile short track and his second win in 15 career
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts. Hamlin, who started from the
rear because he missed the drivers meeting - thanks to a conflict with
Sprint Cup practice -- finished 1.932 seconds ahead of Nelson Piquet Jr., who
bulled his way into the runner-up position after restarting fourth on Lap 193
of 200. Joey Coulter ran third, followed by Crafton and Scott Riggs. Irate at
Hamlins use of the front bumper, Crafton had some choice words for the
driver of the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota after the race. With
Hamlin parked on pit road, Crafton leaned into the drivers-side window to
express his displeasure. Hamlins reaction was What did he expect? When
youre the leader with a few laps to go, youve got to expect it, said Hamlin,

who moved Crafton out of the way and took the lead for the first time with
six laps left. you cant wreck the guy thats off-limits but moving him
off and out of the groove, thats standard protocol at this type of race track.
Crafton disagreed and took umbrage at the characterization of Hamlins win-
ning move as a pass. If you want to call that a passthats just moving
somebody, Crafton said. Running in the back of somebody, that doesnt
take anything. Anybody can do that. I didnt let the tires come up quite clean
enough on the last restart. I do admit that. Thats part of it. I didnt get my
tires cleaned up, but I did not run into the back of him. Ty Dillons one-point
championship lead evaporated after his No. 3 Chevrolet blew a tire and nosed
into the outside wall on Lap 151 to cause the fourth caution of the afternoon.
After repeated trips to pit road for repairs, Dillon dropped to 28th, six laps
down and could not improve on that position. Dillons woes transferred the
series lead to James Buescher, who rallied from a lap down to finish sixth.
Buescher grabbed a 21-point lead over second-place Dillon with three races
left in the season.
Garage Garble
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has earned a new nickname with three races remaining
in the 2012 season, The Comeback Kid. It appeared Stenhouses chances of
repeating his championship run last season were dwindling midway through
Saturdays Nationwide Series race at Kansas when an accident and the result-
ing damage left him two laps down. However, that was not the end of his day.
Stenhouse overcame the near-impossible to find himself running second
when race leader Kyle Busch ran out of fuel on the last lap. Stenhouse cap-
tured his sixth win of the season to cut his points deficit in half. Elliott Sadler
still holds the advantage in the championship standings with a six-point lead
over Stenhouse. Their next meeting will come this Saturday at Texas Motor
Speedway, where Stenhouse won his fourth series victory earlier this season
and Sadler won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event in 2004.
Ryan Truex made his truck series debut behind the wheel of the No. 27
Hillman Racing Chevrolet in Saturdays Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway.
The start marked a Truex family trifecta with all three Truex Family mem-
bers (Martin Truex, Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Truex) having a start in each
of NASCARs three national touring series at Martinsville Speedway. Father,
Martin Truex made his Martinsville debut in the Nationwide Series in the
1989 Miller Classic. Older brother Martin made his first start in the DirecTV
500 in 2006 in the Sprint Cup Series. Martinsville Speedway is added to the
list of only four tracks (New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Dover International
Speedway and Watkins Glen International) on the current NASCAR national
series schedules where the all three Truex family members have competed in
a NASCAR national or touring series race.
For the past two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, Regan Smith substi-
tuted for Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was sidelined by a concussion. Next year,
Smith will be calling Earnhardt boss, after reaching an agreement to drive
the No. 5 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports full-time in the Nationwide Series in
2013. Smith will get an early start on the arrangement. Hell drive a third JR
Motorsports entry, along with teammates Danica Patrick and Cole Whitt, in
the Nov. 17 Nationwide season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the
team announced Wednesday. This is an extremely good opportunity for me,
Smith said in a statement released by the team. Dale Jr. and I first started
talking about this several years ago, but the timing never matched up to where
we could make it happen. Now its time. Im happy to be a part of this orga-
nization. I dont want to just win races. I want to be the team that dominates
races and contends for the championship. Smith started the season as a full-
time Sprint Cup driver for Furniture Row Racing but lost his ride to 2004 Cup
champion Kurt Busch with six races left. When Earnhardt announced he
would miss two races because of concussions suffered at Kansas and
Talladega, Smith was hired as his replacement.

knew that something wasnt right and you cant layer concussions, its really
dangerous doing that. You read about it in the papers and I was going through
it, I was living, so I had to make a choice and I feel like I made the right one:

The 2013 racing season inches closer to crowning a new Sprint Cup cham-
pion as teams travel to Texas Motor Speedway 8th Annual AAA Texas 500
(Sunday, ESPN, 2 p.m.), the seventh race in the ten race Chase for the Sprint
Cup. Tony Stewart is the defending race champion winning the 2011 version,
his second in a row and fourth of the 2011 Chase on his way to his third
crown. Stewart is also the only driver to win both the Winston Cup under the
old points system and the Nextel Cup under the chase playoff format, winning
those championships in 2002 and 2005 respectively. In 2011, Stewart became
the first owner-driver since Alan Kulwicki to win the Cup Series champion-
ship, which ended Jimmie Johnsons streak of consecutive championships at
five. He is the only driver to win the NASCAR championship under three
different sponsorship titles Winston in 2002, Nextel in 2005, and Sprint in
2011 as well as being the only driver in history to win a championship in both
IndyCar and NASCAR.
Riverside Speedway will host the Frostbite Enduro 150 on Saturday start-
ing at 1:00 p.m. The event will be held rain, snow or shine and pays the win-
ner a whopping $2,000.
