BSK CELEBRATES THE MOVE TO GEORGETOWN CAMPUS

By Jim Durham, Georgetown College

Baptist Seminary of Kentucky celebrated its recent move to the Georgetown College campus Tuesday, October 21 with BSK President Greg Earwoods delivery of the sermon during the school years First Chapel. Dr. Earwood told the Hill Chapel audience he was grateful that President Crouch has put together various streams of the Baptist family at the College and now has included BSK. Seeing many BSK friends sitting alongside the College community is so wonderful, he said. In an interview, Dr. Earwood said the day was a kairos moment for him. Kairos is a Greek word meaning a right, favorable, acceptable time within the providence of God. BSK was located in Lexington first at Calvary Baptist Church, then Lexington Theological Seminary for its first eight years of existence. Now is the right time to make our home at Georgetown College. After chapel a large number of well-wishers attended a brief ceremony by an oak tree that was recently planted to symbolize the relationship between the College and BSK. The 8-foot willow oak is between the Music Building and the main entrance of the Ensor Learning Resource Center. The tree is a wonderful way to

mark a new beginning, Earwood said, then with an eye at the hot, clear sky, added with a laugh, now we need to make sure we keep watering it! A reception followed in the LRC lobby and in the BSK office suites on the first and lower level floors. Roger Jasper, 2006 GC graduate and the recently-hired pastor of Living Faith Baptist Fellowship in Elizabethtown, and five of his church members served as hosts. We support both the Seminary and the College and we just felt this was something we could do to show that, said Jasper, who is a second-year BSK student.

a sense of permanency given their significant historical roots dating to 1787. The Seminary will bring to Georgetown College a reinforcing and enhancing of their Baptist identity, several revenue streams, and help in recruiting high school students to campus. Earlier, H.K. Kingkade, Director of the Colleges Office of Religious Life said, The Seminary has strived to follow Gods leading in Christian higher education by reaching out to men and women in order to prepare them for ministry in todays world. They have accumulated a gifted faculty and staff who have dedicated themselves to provide a quality theological education to their students.

Dr. Earwood, who noted that nine of BSKs current 41 students are GC grads, said: Baptist Seminary of Kentucky has located on the campus of Georgetown College because of the Colleges Baptist identity, excellent reputation for liberal arts education, and

BSKS NEW LOOK

The BSK Voice has a new look with a magazine style format. We hope you enjoy the updated appearance and find our information easier to read. Additionally, the Seminary has a new logo that will be used in print, on our website and for new banners and display materials (see on right). The cross is to show that our theology centers in Jesus and the cross. The creative design of the cross is to indicate that we must share the message of our relationship to Christ in imaginative, yet faithful ways in the 21st century. The energy r i n g s around the cross speak of a dynamic relationship with Christ which is Spiritled and alive. We have kept the colors of blue and teal from our previous logo but changed the size of the letters to emphasize a Baptist Seminary, based in Kentucky, but reaching out regionally.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CONFERENCE

Open Arms: How Your Church Can Serve in a Rapidly Changing Culture
This years conference is designed to speak directly to the issue of how the church should be engaging and relating to our changing culture. This one day workshop will be led by David Cassady, Executive Director of the FaithLab, and Jim Dant, Pastor of Highland Hills Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia. Together they will approach the issue from three different ways:

Our Changing World will explore the new ways that people communicate via the internet and mobile devices and how we can seek to relate in this rapidly changing, always-connected mentality. The Mission Field is Here is designed to help us minister effectively and show respect in the midst of the vast cultural differences in the world around us. Starting the Conversation demonstrates how churches can begin the conversation in the midst of this changing culture and how we can begin to speak the new language.
