    The Town of Ocean City, Maryland experienced minimal effects from Hurricane Sandy. An initial assessment found anticipated beach erosion and flooding, as well as damage to the Ocean City Fishing Pier, but no damage to the boardwalk. Town employees have been working to clear debris and return services to normal. Emergency personnel responded during the storm and continued to assist residents and visitors. Trash pickup will resume on November 1st and 2nd, and public works will pickup storm debris placed curbside through November 6th. Due to preparation, Ocean City experienced zero injuries and minimal damage from the storm.

    OceanCityexperiencesminimaleffectsofHurricaneSandy Sincebeforesunrise,TownofOceanCityemployeeshavebeenworkingtoassessthe damagethroughouttowntodeterminetheeffectsofHurricaneSandy.Withnoknown damagetotheboardwalk,theresultsoftheinitialassessmentincludedanticipatedbeach erosionandflooding,marginaldebrisandseveredamagetotheOceanCityFishingPier. EmployeesfortheTownofOceanCityhavebeenworkingdiligentlytoclearstormrelated debrisandreturnregularlyscheduledcityservices. Emergencypersonnelnotonlyrespondedtocallsduringthestorm,butcontinuedtoassist residentsandvisitorsupontheirreturntoOceanCity.Inaddition,theyworkedclosely withtheMarylandStateHighwayAssociation,theMarylandStatePolice,theUSCoast GuardandtheNationalGuardtomakesurethetownwassafeforcitizenstoreturn.Public Worksstaffassistedinpickingupdebris,transportingcitizenstoandfromsheltersand cleaningupthebeach.Nottomention,countlessemployeesandvolunteerswhoworked aroundtheclockmonitoringtheHurricane,staffingtheEmergencyOperationsCenterand meetingtheneedsoftheresidents,businessesandvisitorsbefore,duringandafterthe storm. ResidentsshouldberemindedthattrashpickupwillresumeThursday,November1. TrashisscheduledtobepickeduponThursday,November1,forthosewhoarenormally receivepickuponMondayandFriday,November2,forthosewhonormallyreceivepick uponTuesday.Inaddition,theMayorandCityCouncilapprovedtoallowPublicWorks employeestoperformstormrelateddebrispickup.Thosewhowishtodiscardstorm relateddebriscanplacestormrelateddebrisonthecurb,wherecitizensnormallyplace trash(outofthewayofdriveways,streetwaysandfirehydrants)andPublicWorks employeeswillconductpickupthrough5p.m.onNovember6. TheTownofOceanCitywantstothanktheresidents,businessesandvisitorsforfollowing theadviceoftheofficialsandheedingthewarningofthestorm.Duetothepreparednessof thecitizensandtheemployees,theOceanCitycommunityexperiencedzerostormrelated injuriesandminimalcitywidedamage.
