MRC CENTRE FOR NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASES - CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME

The MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases is a partnership between the UCL Institutes of Neurology and Child Health, and Newcastle University, and is a recognised centre of excellence for clinical research training and education in neuromuscular diseases. The Centre is now offering 1 - 3 year Clinical Research Fellowships based at the UCL Institutes of Neurology and Child Health, London, or collaboratively with Newcastle University. Further posts will be advertised shortly to be based at Newcastle University. These fellowships offer an exciting opportunity for candidates seeking to carry out research in neuromuscular diseases within an established national centre of excellence. Research will cover a wide range of neuromuscular diseases including dystrophy, channelopathy, neuropathy, IBM/protein aggregate myopathy and mitochondrial disease and fellowships are suitable for both adult and paediatric SpRs interested in neurology, neurophysiology and genetics. Fellowships are available from February 2013 to take up anytime during 2013 and are aimed at candidates wishing to pursue a higher degree (MD or PhD) in neuromuscular diseases. They will vary between 1 and 3 years in duration, with successful candidates being appointed on the CL7 salary scale. Individual projects will be based at UCL or formed collaboratively between UCL and Newcastle University. In addition the MRC Centre is also offering a 1 year fellowship specialising in hereditary neuropathies at its London site funded by a NIH rare disease clinical research consortium. This one year fellowship is suitable for a final year SpR or a post CCST applicant who wishes to subspecialise in inherited neuropathies.
