Assistance available, website launched, listening post offered to residents affected by Waldo Canyon Fire
The mission of the Pikes Peak Region Long Term Recovery group is to provide recovery services to individuals and families affected by the Waldo Canyon fire in the Pikes Peak Region. The PPR LTRG, made up of approximately 40 nonprofit agencies, faith-based groups and government liaisons, now has an office up and running with case managers available to determine assistance towards unmet needs of those affected by the Waldo Canyon Fire. The office is located in the Weber Street Center, 105 N. Weber St., across the street from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Colorado Springs. The office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 to 5 p.m. For eligibility, beneficiaries must be survivors of the Waldo Canyon Fire and have unmet needs directly attributed to the fire. The primary interface with survivors is through our established case management process. They will assess situations and identify resources, including available funds from the PPR LTRG. The funds will be made payable to vendors for needs. The website for the Pikes Peak Region LTRG has also been launched and made available to the public. While visiting the website, you will find information regarding the PPR LTRG such as, how to donate, recent fund raising events and a list of current members. Included is a picture gallery of local volunteers helping survivors of the Waldo Canyon Fire. To access the website, go to www.pprltrg.org. Currently, a listening post is available to survivors of the Waldo Canyon Fire. A place where they can talk to trained listeners about their story and experiences in dealing with the affects of the Waldo Canyon Fire. All information will be kept strictly confidential. Every Thursday evening through the holidays, residents can visit the Wilson United Methodist Church, 6460 W. Flying W. Ranch Road, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. *The Pikes Peak Region LTRG is comprised of a team of dedicated faith-based and other professionals from the community who have willingly donated their time and efforts in facilitating and coordinating the rebuilding process. The donations received will be allocated towards restoring the lives of survivors from the Waldo Canyon Fire. The LTRG also draws upon the experience of national organizations active in disaster recovery to ensure resources are used in an efficient and effective manner. The PPR LTRG has partnered with the Pikes Peak Community Foundation which serves as the groups fiscal sponsor.
