A Resolution Concerning REUSABLE CARRYOUT CONTAINERS AT UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF MARYLAND SCHOOLS WHEREAS: The University of Maryland has recently adopted a reusable carryout container program provided by Ozzi Enterprises under Compass Group USA; and, WHEREAS: This program has given students who take out food from the dining halls a greener option. Many students are no longer using paper or plastic containers, but instead are using these reusable and washable eco-containers; and, WHEREAS: This program has been a key feature of The University of Marylands green dining initiative. It has helped to save resources and to greatly reduce the number of waste being sent to landfills; and, WHEREAS: The school itself has been able to reduce expenses given towards buying throw away paper or plastic containers; and, WHEREAS: It costs a student $0.25 every time he/she uses a paper or plastic container whereas there is only one $5.00 payment for the reusable container. since the student can return the first, and already used container for a new clean one (and will continue doing so), it saves he/she money in the long run; and, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature urges the Board of Regents to have all University System of Maryland institutions that offer take out dining to implement similar programs provided by private companies so as to promote an eco-friendly way of taking out food MANDATES: Martin OMalley, Governor of Maryland William E.
