We are humbled by Pasadena Covenant's generosity in providing for the reception. Thank you to the congregation for your expressions of sympathy, through cards and words of encouragement. Weekly Programs
Oikas: Sunday Mornings, 9 am-10:15 am
Oikas is the Greek work for House. When we come together on Sunday Mornings, we come together just as we are, in the House of God. Sunday Mornings are a place where we can be totally authentic with one another and dig deep into Gods Word together.
.

Selah: Wednesday Night Worship and Small Groups, 6:30-8:30 pm

Selah is our midweek program for both high school and middle school students. Selah is a Hebrew word that is used many times throughout the book of Psalms. Were not exactly sure of the meaning, but some good guesses include Pause or Stop and listen. Wednesday nights at PCSM are made to be just that: a time out in our busy week to rest and listen to God. We do this through spending quality time together, worshiping through song, and connecting in age and gender specific small groups. [Note: we will not meet the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 21st]

Childrens Ministry November theme: Noah & Abraham

This year, all our PCC Childrens Ministries are joining PCC Student Ministries in studying the Old Testament. Our goal is for kids to see the big picture of how God is at work in the world, and how they, too, are part of Gods Great Story. Along the way we will pause to notice and celebrate what God has and is doing through feasts & festivals, including a Harvest Festival on Nov. 25th. In November we will focus both on obedience and journeys as we study Noah and Abraham. Ways to follow up at home: Things to talk about: When is it hard to obey your parents? When is it easy? What helps make it easier? When is it hard to obey God? What makes it easier? What is the longest journey you can remember taking? How did you feel about it? If you were to plan a visit somewhere new, where would you go? Things to do: Use maps, globes, and etc. to show kids ancient and contemporary Egypt and Israel. Play Follow the Leader or Simon Says and talk about following God wherever he leads. Plan your next family trip or vacation. Use a map to show the route you will be taking.

Family Advent Breakfast: Sunday, December 2nd 8:30-10:15 am

Advent breakfast is a time for the entire family to join together and shift focus from our day-today lives to anticipating with joyful expectation the birth of our Savior. All ages are invited to join us for breakfast, followed by a simple family craft and devotional. This year we will be making advent wreaths which will go along with the advent lessons we will be focusing on in our kids classes during December. Families will be given a guide that can be used to center a simple family devotional time each week leading up to Christmas. Breakfast will be provided by PCC Student Ministries, with a free will offering going to support youth scholarships.

Cross-Cultural Communication Specialists Praise & Prayer Requests

Kitty and Lee Purgason, members of Pasadena Covenant Church, live in Pasadena and work with crosscultural ministries based in this area: Kitty teaches at Biola University in La Mirada and Lee works with the US Center for World Missions in Pasadena. Kitty shares about the recent work in which she and Lee are involved: I spent three wonderful weeks in Spain in September doing some teacher training as part of the U.S. State Departments Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Since most of my experience has been in Asia and the Muslim world, it was interesting being in Europe. None of the conversational gambits or English study examples that were connected with spiritual things got picked up - Spaniards dont seem interested in religion. It was also valuable for me, as a teacher trainer, to be in the position of novice againnew to the language and culture, and experiencing anxiety that made me rely in fresh ways on God, and experiencing thankfulness as he came through. Please pray that whatever Gods purposes for this trip were - in my life and in the lives of the people I met - they would be fulfilled. Now I am back to my regular teaching schedule at Biola, training English language teachers. I continue to get requests from all over the world (as well as locally among those who work with immigrants, refugees, and international students) for people who know how to teach English and who have a heart for mission. Pray for the right connections. I will be giving an afternoon seminar at Urbana 2012, the Intervarsity Missions conference between Christmas and New Years, on this topic. In his work at the U.S. Center for World Mission, Lee has been juggling facets of his role as CFO, coordinating audit activities (for fiscal year ending June 30) and stewarding property management tasks. He also has been working with the development officer for some special funding projects, and with the leadership team as the Perspectives course coordinating team returns to Pasadena after several years based in Fayetteville, AR. He also serves on the Personnel Committee, recently assisting that team as they helped staff plan for funding their ministry during traditional retirement years. At the recommendation of Paul DeNeui, Lee recently finished Mary Lederleitners Cross-Cultural Partnerships: Navigating the Complexities of Money and Missions (IVPress). Given the growth of cross-cultural partnerships and business as mission efforts, he appreciated lessons learned from the authors years of experience with Wycliffe in Asia. Praises: For Kittys opportunity to train teachers of English in Spain For Lees opportunities to assist many different ministries at the US Center for World Mission Prayer: For Kittys seminar at InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's Urbana conference in December. For Lee as he continues to help coordinate the annual audit, property management and budget reviews. That the fruits of our work would be new breakthroughs among unreached people groups.

PCC Kids Ministry Christmas Shoebox Project

During November, PCC Childrens and Family ministries will be collecting Christmas shoeboxes. Shoeboxes are sent to children in war-torn countries, refugee camps, and in developing nations. Shoeboxes need to be turned in to church on Sun., Nov. 18th. 1. Start with a standard-size shoebox. Plastic ones are great: sturdy & reusable -- helpful in refugee camps. If you wrap the box, wrap lid separately. 2. Fill your box w/ school supplies, hygiene items, toys. Hard candy is OK, but no perishable food, liquids, war-related toys, weapons or breakable items. 3. You may want to add a card with your address in case the recipient is able to write back. 4. Enclose a $7 donation in an envelope to cover shipping. Or go to www.samaritanspurse.org/ezgive to make your donation online, which enables you to track your box and find out where it is sent. Fun! 5. Affix a boy or girl label from the flyer in the worship bulletin (or print one from website above) to indicate the appropriate age level for your box. 6. Bring your shoeboxes to church on Sunday, Nov. 18th Note: If you could help deliver shoeboxes to the distribution center (in La Canada or Glendale) in the afternoon of Sun., Nov. 18th, please contact Pastor Vikki at vrandall@pasadenacovenant.org or 626/795-9381 x. 104.
