4159 Keeneland Circle Plainfield, Indiana 46168 Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis 420 University Boulevard Indianapolis, Indiana 46202 RE: Letter of Appeal Dear Appeal Board: My name is Tim Tatem and I am submitting a letter of appeal for the failure to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress during the semester of Spring 2012. I understand the responsibility is mine and that I alone am to blame for my lack of success. During Spring 2012 (as well as Fall 2011), I was terribly unorganized and had poor attendance. While working 40 hours a week, I often prioritized my job above my education. I disrespected the university and treated it as if it were high school. It is with my utmost apology that I write this appeal for my poor behavior. I wish to improve my academic standing in order to better both myself and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. During the current semester, Fall 2012, I have taken action to amend my wrongdoings. First and foremost, I am partaking in the STAR (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) Mentoring Program. I meet with a counselor and students every week in order to learn what can be done to make improvements. Also, to counter my severe disorganization and attendance, I have created a weekly schedule that is referred to constantly. Each weeks assignments, meetings, lectures, and work hours are carefully planned on the previous Saturday to ensure nothing is missed. Modifications are often made through the week as needed, prioritizing my education above all else. This method alone has been extremely successful in helping me reach my goals as not only do I currently hold an A in my Physics course, but I have also been able to keep up on my home responsibilities without issue. I would like to close by stating that my views on responsibility have changed drastically thanks to the severity of the situation. I have become a better person when it comes to taking care of all aspects of my life, including my education, work, and home lives. I wish for my future attending Indiana University Purdue University to be full of success and can only see myself achieving that goal. The position that I have placed myself in has also helped me understand how the education field works. As I intend to educate children over the laws of physics, I can only be appreciative and grateful for a second opportunity. Thank you for your time and assistance regarding this matter. Sincerely,

Tim Tatem
