Measurement Standards
The following measurement standards are used in this manual:
Rack Unit (RU) is an Imperial standard measurement for device height. (While also seen as U.) [1RU = 44.45mm = 1.75 inches] 19 Rack Standard is an international standard for racking width. [19 Rackmount standard = 482.6mm] Other measures for in-document conversion: (1m = 3.281ft), (0.3048m = 1ft), (25.4mm = 1in), (1kg = 2.205lb) Website for length & weight conversions: http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert
Due to continuous product improvements, dimensions may change, particularly with respect to the client PC. Contact your Harris Project Manager for more information. Unless otherwise requested, customers supply their own monitors and KVM switch.
Miscellaneous Items
Devices
Prepare all devices such as VTRs, videodisks, switchers and cart machines for automation installation using user notes supplied by Harris. Important:
Printer(s)
Confirm device model/version and obtain correct manufacturer's software and firmware on disk/proms as needed. Ensure that any internal DIP switches are set for the correct communication parameters (Baud rate, parity, etc).
Harris does not supply any printers with your system. You may, however, purchase a printer and connect it to the File Server or Media Client workstations parallel port. Optionally, you may choose to provide a print server available on the network to connect to the printer. A standard Windows driver for any installed printer(s) should be available for installation on Harris computers as needed.
Panel Functions
The OCP comes with 24, hi-res, remotely-relegendable 64 x 32 LCD buttons, 10 bank buttons, and 17 additional function and navigation switches. The hi-res LCD buttons can display text (up to 40 characters) and graphics using built in command driven serial interfaces. They integrate a graphical LCD with RGB backlighting, and are capable of displaying up to 64 colors. Software controls the interface, display and backlighting. Data only needs to be transmitted when a change is made to the display or background colors. These LCD buttons can be programmed to provide a range of functions. Most commonly used when breakdowns or other failures occur, each button on the OCP can call up actions needed in a hurry. For example, a button can be configured to:
Cut back to Network, or even backup device with a ready content. Display a full-screen apology slide or trigger a caption for missing audio.

The Device Controller Package
Device Controller(s) are rack mountable devices and ship with rack rails. Transfer switches, relay panels, GPI breakouts, network hub(s) and keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) switch are supplied with rack mount ears for easy installation.
Mounting Hints
17 monitors come standard with the Harris system. If you require smaller or larger monitors, this must be specified at the time of the order. Mount the 8-port relay panels and GPI breakouts in the back of the rack. The relay panels are connected to the transfer switch or to the cloning panel if cloning has been ordered as an option. Your Device Controller comes with a rack size keyboard, ideal for storage in a keyboard drawer. However, both the keyboard drawer and rack mount kits for monitors and client PCs must be purchased separately if needed. Appropriate power cords are provided for all equipment. If any, or all, of the power cords supplied with the system are incorrect, contact Harris Automation for assistance. While most, if not all, equipment is equipped with auto sensing power supplies, it is essential that care be taken to ensure that any line voltage settings present are properly set prior to applying power to any equipment.
Rackmounting Sequence
Install your Device Controller(s), transfer switch, keyboard/video/mouse switch, Application/File Server(s) and network hub in the same rack, or in adjacent racks. This rack should also contain an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for your Device Controller(s). We recommend installing the equipment in a least used to most used configuration from the top of the rack to the bottom, with user controls conveniently placed. If this configuration is followed, system components are installed from the top to the bottom of the rack in this order:
Application/File Server (Installation and setup of this sever are addressed under separate documentation.) Network hub(s) Monitor
