Why The Eliminate Project Chuck McIlravey, Region Coordinator

I was reading all about the programs, personal time, and financial support our own Kiwanis Club Members provide to the community. It amazed me at how easy it was to accomplish these tasks. In fact one of our most worthy projects is assisting the Salvation Army meals program and serving meals in the kitchen to those less fortunate both men, women and children. There are hundreds of volunteers who come out and provide their time and treasurer without being asked. We wanted to take on more evenings but the schedule is filled with volunteers and further help is not needed. These less fortunate have a warm bed, a location that offers support and opportunities with other organizations to help them through their day, week, month and even year. We are blessed in North America to have organizations and volunteers that offer their services and treasurer for the benefit of those who need support. We have a lot to give thanks for. What caught my attention about Eliminate was the transparency of the program. We, as Kiwanis working again with our partner UNICEF have this safety net that provides us comfort as UNICEF provides us with regular status reports on how our funds are being handled and the success in each country. That means a lot to our Kiwanis Members who want to know everything is being managed and dealt with as indicated in our marketing to our Kiwanis Clubs. Continued on page 2

A note from Chuck McIlravey, Region Coordinator
Cont. from page 1 I have had many conversations with Kiwanians who say they want their money to stay in the community. I always respond first by saying I think that is most important and your local programs are most important to the health of your club and your community. I also ask the question, as a member of an international organization that markets the fact we care for Children in the World what do you think you could spare or what other program could you organize to help fund this very worthy cause. Could your club give 10% of their earnings or start a special fundraising program? These comments in most instances provide a different look at the program. Yes we can easily provide 10%. Yes I can think of a program we could do to raise funds. Several have indicated to me they have never looked at participating in the Eliminate Program in this way. I believe you will find, as many have who are doing Specific Eliminate Fundraising that we are meeting a whole new audience of individuals who are providing contributions. One comment was to my surprise they are interested in knowing more about our Kiwanis Club that not only works and provides support in community programs but also feel they have an international responsibility for Children all over the World. A new member? If you have a moment and a Kiwanis Member comes to your club to talk about Eliminate, take the time to say thank you for the extra effort they are taking on as a member of your Club, Division, District or International Family. Once fully informed the final decision to contribute is yours alone. I am not about to fill you with statistics but do ask that you take a moment and look into The Eliminate Project and judge for yourself. It is something you will not regret doing.

100K Clubsstrategies for saving lives

Have you ever saved a life? Have you ever saved 55,000 lives? Clubs that embark on a $100,000 commitment to The Eliminate Project save or protect, at minimum, 55,000 lives the equivalent to the entire city of Grande Prairie in Alberta. Imagine your club saving an entire city or several villages of families. 100K Clubs, like the ones listed on the next page, have five years to fulfill their life-saving commitment from the point of pledge. Clubs that pledge in 2014 have until 2019 to fulfill their generous gift. Consider you clubs various fundraising opportunities and consider joining this society of clubs that is working together to eliminate tetanus from the face of the Earth. Kiwanis club of Fredericton has tins of fun
In Fredericton New Brunswick the Kiwanis Club of Fredericton with 19 Members and a population of 56,224 people came up with a great idea. The club has manufactured tins with the Eliminate Logo on each tin and have gone out to various areas of the community with high people traffic volume. Their goal is to raise awareness of the Kiwanis International Eliminate Program and at the same time bring awareness about their Kiwanis Club. The local newspaper picked up on the program and they were front and centre in Stacey Hogan volunteer and Past Presithe newspaper with an excellent dent, Kiwanis of Fredericton, Sharon article on the purpose of the Sisco, Sales Consultant at Covey Basics program and what they were of Fredericton show off their tins. trying to accomplish. Great idea and they are having a lot of fun working in Teams and enjoying their time together outside of regular club meetings. President Burton and Members are bringing attention to Kiwanis and people are taking notice.
