Its About Trust

Last week I finished up my series titled The Fathers Love. We took a look at the story of Adam and Eve from Genesis, Chapter 3.The consequence of Eves interaction with the Serpent has historically been referred to as The Fall of Man. The Serpent deceived, Adam and Eve gave into temptation, and sin entered into the world. Most sermons Ive heard and commentaries Ive read on this account, focus on disobedience and sin. God gave them one rule to follow and they blew it. I believe thats part of the story but not the main part. Really, the main issue here is trust. Whom will Adam and Eve trust? Will they trust themselves and what seems right in their own eyes or will they trust the nature and character of God? The Serpent sowed seeds of doubt and mistrust in the hearts of men. Unfortunately, that wedge exists to this day. Is God really good? Can I trust that He has my best interest at heart? Or is He an insecure deity holding out on me, keeping His best from us? God didnt put the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden to test their discipline but rather, to incubate trust. He gave us choice in the hope that we would choose Him. Oh that Adam or Eve would have responded to the Serpents insinuations against Gods character this way: Excuse me, are you talking about my God? The one who created us, who placed us in this beautiful place and who walks with us in the cool of the day? Are you talking about my Father, my God, the one who loves us limitlessly? I dont think so; you obviously dont know Him at all! Buzz off Serpent, youre barking up the wrong tree. God is indeed good. God loves us lavishly and extravagantly. We can indeed trust Him. The journey continues.
