Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) Payment Process - Frequently Asked Questions

I have been awarded a maintenance grant, what happens next? Once you have been awarded a maintenance grant SUSI must ask the college/institution named on your Final Course Acceptance form to confirm your registration.

Upon receipt of confirmation of your registration and once you have submitted valid bank account details online, your award will be processed at the next payment date.

SUSI only pays directly into your bank account. (SUSI does not issue cheques)

How do I enter my bank details?


SUSI will send you an award notification, outlining your award and showing the relevant application number. Once you have received this notification you must enter your bank account details online as soon as possible, to facilitate payment into your account. You must use the username and password you created when you submitted your application online. You must only enter bank details for the application that has been awarded. If you enter bank details against any other application you may have made, e.g. a cancelled application or an un-submitted application, you will not receive payment. Please note you will require your PPS number when entering your bank details.

Your account must be in one of the following banks: Allied Irish Bank, Bank of Ireland, Permanent TSB, Educational Building Society (EBS), Ulster Bank or National Irish Bank.

Please note you will not be able to amend your bank details once submitted.

What application should I submit my bank details against if I have more than one application?
You must only enter bank details for the application that has been deemed as awarded by SUSI. SUSI will issue a notification to you outlining the award and showing the relevant application number, e.g. W121311111111. If you enter bank details against any other application you may have made, e.g. a cancelled application or an un-submitted application, you will not receive payment.

Please note you will not be able to amend your bank details once submitted.

There is an error message on the grantsonline when I enter my bank details stating The combination of bank sort code and account number are invalid, what do I do? Please ensure that your bank account is in one of the following banks:
Allied Irish Bank, Bank of Ireland, Permanent TSB, Educational Building Society (EBS), Ulster Bank or National Irish Bank. Check that you have the correct sort code and bank account number. Note: Please ensure that you only enter details for the bank account that you want your payment to be lodged to. Bank account details cannot be edited or amended once submitted.

Can I change my bank account details once they have been submitted? No, you cannot change or amend your bank account details once they have been submitted.

I have been awarded a fees only grant, what happens next? Once you have been awarded a fee grant SUSI must ask the college/institution named on your Final Course Acceptance form to confirm your registration. SUSI will pay the college/institution your fees/student contribution directly.

How often do I get paid? SUSI pays maintenance grants in nine monthly instalments.

I wasnt awarded until after October, will I get back money? Applicants whose application is awarded after October or whose registration is confirmed after October will receive any back money due in their first payment.

Can I change my bank account details once they have been submitted? No, you cannot change or amend your bank account details once they have been submitted.

How will an equivalent period of study determination affect my grant payment? Some students receive an award of a reduced maintenance grant and/or fees due to having completed a prior period of study at the same or higher level to that of their current awarded course. This will affect the amount of maintenance grant and/or fees you will be

awarded. A number of months payments will be withheld, which will correspond to the number of months of equivalent study you are required to complete.
