The Related of Mass Com, Culture & Media Literacy

Mass communication, culture and media literacy. Are they related or not.

Regarding to the subject above, its very sure this three element are connecting between its. We start from the definition of mass communication. Its intend to the term used to describe the academic study of the various means by which individuals and entities relay information through mass media to large segments of the population at the same time. The related from the meaning is communication between us with television, radio, newspaper and internet. This thing happened every day in our life because this is the way how we get information.

The term 'mass' sentence referred a great volume, range or people .The concept is like to serve a product either the recipient have or not. The words 'communication' refers to the giving and taking of meaning, the transmission and reception of messages. The word 'communication' is really equated with 'transmission', as viewed by the sender, rather than in the fuller meaning, which includes the notions of response, sharing and interaction.

James W. Carey (1975 ) also defined the mass communication . He said that communication is a symbolic process reality is produced, maintained, repaired and transformed. The definition point out that communication and reality are linked.

Some people defined that culture is communication and communication is culture. Culture is a way of life of a group of people with the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next. Culture also is a symbolic of communication.

Edward T.Hall ( 1976 ) was an anthropologist define the culture as a medium evolved by humans to survive . Nothing is free from cultural influences. It is the keystone in civilizations arch and is the medium through which all of lifes events must flow. We are culture.

We can see from the television or hear from radio that government advertise the event of Kongsi Raya and Jom Makan-Makan which combined all culture of Malaysian. So, the government uses the media to attract people or society to enjoying the event. That how communication and culture are linked.

Some people said they not directly affected with media. But media is very important for the some organisation like a company to advertise their product. For people, the television impact is low because not affected directly. We have such variety to ignore it.

The term of l, media refers to various means of communication. For example, television, radio, and the newspaper are different types of media. The term can also be used as a collective noun for the press or news reporting agencies. In the computer world, media is also used as storage to keep a data.

Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see and read.

Back to the topic given, the conclusion can be made is mass communication, culture and media literacy is really connected. Take an example about attending an event or gathering like Makan Makan Festival. The organizer will invite them to come and bring something or wear their proper attire. Secondly, the invitation will attend it with some souvenir. The Malays will bring nasi lemak and curry puff, Chinese with yong tau fu and moon cake and Indians with nasi briyani and murukku. They also come with their traditional attire such as baju kurung, kebaya, sari and cheong sam. So, we can see the various cultures from the foods and attires. The third one is the organizer will use media such as radio and television to advertise the event. The society will attract and come to the event. Thats how the three elements are connected. Thank you.
