WELCOME TO PEACE WITH CHRIST

LUTHERAN CHURCH!

We give thanks to God that you are joining us today!

Many of our guests are seeking a home church where they
can be part of the Fellowship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Peace with Christ is a congregation that is a family not an
“organization”. We are small enough to allow people to
know each other by name, and yet large enough to offer
opportunities for growth and service. What we “specialize”
in is not programs or productions, but simply The Gospel
of Our Lord Jesus. Christ, His Word, and the Cross are
what provide the foundation for faith and ministry. If you
are interested in learning more about Peace With Christ
Lutheran Church, please call the church office at 226-4721.
Pastor Patrick would welcome the opportunity to visit with
you personally.
THE TIME before the service may be used for prayer and
preparation. Read through the worship bulletin and familiarize
yourself with the service. Use the hymn marker to mark the Psalm
for the day. A few moments spent this way will help make the
service more meaningful.

NEXT WEEK’S LUTHERAN HOUR MESSAGE:

Hour Message on KOA, Denver (AM850) at 6:00 a.m. and KFKA,

Commemoration

CONFESSION OF PETER
Beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
The week of Prayer for Christian Unity is framed by two
commemorations, the Confession of Peter (a relatively recent
addition to the calendar) and the older Conversion of Paul. Both
apostles are remembered together on June 29, but these two days
offer an opportunity to focus on key events in each of their lives. On
this day the church remembers that Peter was led by God’s grace to
acknowledge Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the living God”
(Matthew 16:16)

It is time again to be thinking about the upcom-

ing collection of food & clothing for St. John’s
food pantry & clothing closet. During the first
two weeks of February we will be collecting in
the Sunshine Hall. The greatest needs are winter
clothes especially for kids, blankets, bedding, disposable
diapers, soap (not liquid), personal products, canned fruit,
vegetables, soup, and pasta. Your help is a blessing.

A READING FROM THE BOOK OF CONCORD
2ND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
FORMULA OF CONCORD, SOLID DECLARATION
ARTICLE XI: GOD'S ETERNAL ELEC-
TION

According to Christ's teaching [all people]

should abstain from
their sins, repent, believe His promise, and en-
tirely trust in
Him. Since we cannot do this by ourselves, by
our own powers,
the Holy Spirit desires to work these things-
repentance and
faith-in us through the Word and Sacraments. In
order that we
may receive this, persevere in it, and remain
steadfast, we
should beg God for His grace, which He has prom-
ised us in Holy
Baptism. No doubt He will give it to us accord-
ing to His
promise, as He has said, "If you then, who are
evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children, how much more
will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to
those who ask Him!" (Luke
11:11-13)

The Holy Spirit dwells in the elect, who have

become believers,
as in His temple [1 Corinthians 6:19]. He is not
idle in them,
but moves God's children to obey God's commands.
Therefore,

Transitioning Missionaries – Jan. 16-23

Every year, missionaries complete their service on the foreign
mission field and return home to the United States to serve in new
capacities. Whether a missionary has served for one year or 20
years, it greatly impacts their life and provides a crucial contri-
bution to God’s work in a specific area of the world.

Daily Prayers:

Sunday: That God would provide opportunities for transitioning

missionaries that use the new talents and skills they were able to
learn overseas—to His glory and their fulfillment as His children.
Monday: That the Lord would provide people in the transitioning
missionaries’ lives who would truly be open to listening to their experi-
ences and helping them to share about their mission work on a deeper
level. Returning missionaries often struggle to find caring friends who
want to know more about their work than the surface-level cultural dif-
ferences of the people the missionaries served.

Tuesday: For missionary kids who are required to adapt, perhaps for
the first time, to life in the United States after living in another country.
“MKs” can feel lonely and out-of-place as they seek to make new
friends and struggle with homesickness for their previous country of
residence.

Wednesday: For returning missionaries to be enthusiastic and con-

victing mission advocates as they speak with and challenge other Chris-
tians to respond to God’s mission in some way. As they make presenta-
tions, send thank you notes, and talk with all of those who supported
their service, they have the opportunity to invite other people to deepen
their mission involvement.

Thursday: That returning missionaries would keep their eyes and

ears open as they are sharing about their service, so that they may iden-
tify good candidates for missionary service and invite them to prayer-
fully consider specific opportunities or to talk with a placement coun-
selor. “Real-live” missionaries are often the best recruiters!

Friday: That the Lord would provide them with ways to continue
communicating with the people in the fields where they served, with
whom they undoubtedly built deep relationships. Pray also for God to
provides ways for continued involvement in mission efforts in these
areas.

LCMS World Mission Volunteers – Jan. 24-31

LCMS World Mission’s St. Louis office benefits from the faithful
service of 60 volunteers each month. They volunteer for an aver-
age of 130 hours per month. The estimated value of volunteer
work is $19.50 per hour or $1.4 million per year.

Saturday: With thanksgiving for the many hours of faithful service

that volunteers provide to LCMS World Mission every month. The ap-
proximate annual value of their services is $1.4 million.
