MOVIE REVIEWS
Mama Mia! ( The Movie)

This is a story about a girl in search of her father. She finds out
that she has three possible fathers and sends out invitations to
them, telling them to come to her wedding. On that day, she real-
izes that its not as easy as she thought it would be to tell who her
real father is, and that keeping secrets from your most beloved
can ruin your entire life. This fun and enjoyable musical is packed
with ABBA classics and cool dance moves, featuring Meryl Streep,
Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried. Using the songs, they build
the story around them and gradually form a first class master-
piece. This movie is definitely for anybody and I highly recom-
mend it to all audiences.

BOOK REVIEW
The Northern Lights
By: Phillip Pullman
In worlds parallel to our own, there are some where souls live outside the
body. Some are in the shape of animals called ‘daemons’. The adventure
starts when Lyra accidentally hears her uncle talk about ‘dust’. It wasn’t the
normal kind, but what was it? Lyra and her daemon suddenly find themselves
in an adventure filled with witches, polar bears and many more creatures.
When I first read the book I thought it was very interesting. Instead of the
usual perfect main character, it has a girl who acts just like a normal kid:
stubborn and always doing silly things. I didn’t like the ending because there
was no ending but I guess it can’t be helped because there is a second book. It
is definitely worth reading.

The Secret Identity of Devon Delaney

By: Lauren Barnholdt
Devon was living her normal life at school until her friend, Lexi, from the
summer holiday was transferred over. But that’s fine right? But, it isn’t, De-
von has lied to her friend saying she is the most popular girl in school and is
dating the most popular guy. Now Devon must try her best to keep the bal-
ance between her two very different selves.
I really liked this book because it shows some of the worries teens are facing.
The characters in the book have their own unique personalities and the book
has a happy ending. However, I didn’t think that it was a very good idea for
the main character to lie about herself and that it’s a bad example we
shouldn’t follow.

The Undomestic Goddess

By: Sophie Kinsella
Samantha was devastated when she finds that she has made a terrible mistake
and will lose her job and the chance to get a partnership at a powerful law
firm. She then travels to the countryside where she is hired as a maid. But for
someone who cannot cook or iron the clothes, it is a disaster. But on the
bright side there is the gardener who she finds utterly attractive. Will she be
able to change her life around?
This book was really funny and I couldn’t stop reading once I started. The
main character was really funny because she didn’t know how to do any
chores and made a catastrophic mess all the time. There was nothing that I
didn’t enjoy about this book only that the ending was quite short.
