Impressed with the leadership qualities of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says he is a big fan of hers. It is highly commendable the way she leads. I a big fan of hers, said the Bollywood badshah, who was here for the inauguration of Kolkata Film Festival and to promote Jab Tak Hain Jaan produced by the late Yash Chopra. She is a firebrand leader, she takes a lot of initiative in doing things. That is her leadership style. In our country for a lady it is doubly difficult to be so outgoing, Khan, 47, who is also West Bengals brand ambassador, told reporters here. Asked about the investment scenario in the state, he said that there are many positive things about West Bengal, but it took time put things together. At certain times it takes time to put things together. Bengal has a certain brand value which should rise to new levels which we will all be proud of, Khan said, SRK said that the Kolkata Film

Shah Rukh Khan declares he is Sonakshi Sinha believes big fan of Mamata Banerjee! healthy competition
Sonakshi Sinha, who is relatively new to the film industry and working hard to play long innings in showbiz, says she never tries to race ahead of her contemporaries. Her success mantra is hard work and minding your own business. I believe in healthy competition. I find certain actresses very good and fresh on screen like Deepika (Padukone), Anushka (Sharma) and Parineeti (Chopra). Everyone is here to do hard work and a good job. I dont try to go ahead of them. I dont think of it like that. I think minding your own business is the right way to go, she said. Her first film was the super hit Dabangg, followed by Rowdy Rathore, Joker, and Oh My God. Now she is looking for her next release Son of Sardaar, which hits screens on Diwali. Her kitty is full with projects like Dabangg 2, Lootera, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 and Namak. Talking about Vikramaditya Motwane-directed period film Lootera, she said: Lootera,

Why James Bond did not come Harrison Ford open to Star Wars return? to Mumbai?
Director Sam Mendes had to abandon his plans to shoot 23rd James Bond movie Skyfall in Mumbai because he found it incredibly difficult. The movie was meant to open in Mumbai, with a long chase that would have seen Bond racing through a densely populated market, jumping on a motorbike and eventually fighting an opponent on top of a train. But the production team dropped the idea after realising it was difficult to shoot in the narrow and chaotic streets of Mumbai, the Hollywood Reporter said. It is logistically incredibly difficult to shut down the center of an enormous Indian city. We tried to make it work and to embrace the chaos, but in the end there were too many dangers - I dont mean from people trying to sabotage production, but there are narrow streets that are difficult to film in. I was very disappointed, Mendes said. The 47-year-old director then went to explores places like Cape Town and Johannesburg for shooting but they proved equally fruitless. And it was Actor Harrison Ford may reprise his character Hans Solo in the forthcoming Disneymade sequel of the Star Wars. The 70-year-old, who played the character in the first three movies of the sci-fi franchise said. For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. Ive always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime, Lucas had said.

FLASHBACK! Know B-town celebs TALAASH TRIVIA: When Aamir refused to trim his moustache! favourite Diwali moments!
Actors from B-town share their favourite Diwali memories with us: Aditi Rao Hydari I dont burn firecrackers. At the age of 10, I stopped doing that. I start my celebrations by making sure my house is neat and clean. I make sure everything looks pretty and sparkly. Then I light a lot of diyas and make the rangoli myself. I love flowers, so I use them to decorate the house. Diwali is a time for well-being and happiness. When we were growing up in Delhi, two of my best friends and I pooled together all our firecrackers and burst them on the terrace. We had a great time. And because we werent allowed to watch movies otherwise, at night we would invariably sit and watch Mr India (1987). That was also the only time we were allowed to stay up late. Arjun Kapoor My favourite Diwali memory is of the whole family coming together for that one night and bonding over random conversations and delicious food. My grandmother made outstanding food during Diwali, so thats a memory that always lingers. As a kid, I used to burst crackers. I have stopped now because of the pollution they cause. Recently, I even tried my hand at playing cards, but I tend to lose more than I win, so I stay away. The puja at home is another highlight. Earlier, my grandfather used to do it, then I saw my father doing it and last year, I did it. Soha Ali Khan I lived in Delhi as a child, where Diwali would be celebrated in true Dilli style with an opulent farmhouse party and elaborate firework display, food, dance and merriment till the early hours of the morning. Often, trips to the hospital were included as someone inevitably burnt a hand or a foot while setting off a rocket or a bomb. In recent years, Diwali has taken on a less risky and more environment-friendly flavour at home we light diyas inside and outside the house, do puja and eat sweets. No risk to life or limb or nothing an antacid cant take care of! Kunal Khemu As a kid, I would wait to see what our family budget for Aamir Khan is known for being a perfectionist and doing things precisely right to the last detail and director Reema Kagti got a taste of his meticulousness while directing him in Talaash. Last January, we did a hair and make-up look test and zeroed in on a moustache for Aamir. Though he has a cute chocolate boy type of face, his character in the film is a man who is going through some intense emotional issues. So we tried to offset his look with a moustache, says Reema. Aamir took up the challenge so enthusiastically that he grew a moustache longer than the look required. After the styling team trimmed away some of his facial hair, Aamir suddenly announced that he wanted to sport a fatter moustache. We were all surprised as it was way too bushy for a cop, Reema says with a laugh. Aamir can be extremely stubborn when he wants to be, so even though I tried everything from gentle persuasion to being blatantly honest, he refused to let us chop any further.

TalaashAs the look test trials were done in his house, Reema got her good friend and Aamirs wife Kiran to help her out. When we approached him, Aamir put his hand on his moustache as he thought someone would sneak up on him and cut it off. It was hilarious! she says. I told him that I was certain about rules and regulations for cops moustaches and that

he couldnt have just any kind he wanted. He rubbished me and asked me not to try these stunts on him. Thats when I called in a cop assigned to his security detail and asked him, when Aamir was around, about the rules for facial hair. He was nice enough to clarify those and Aamir being a stickler for rules and regulations, gave in and trimmed his moustache, Reema says.

crackers was, and compare that with friends. I would then get ready to burst crackers with them in the evening. With age, however, I realised that crackers are not just a waste of money, but the pollution they cause, of both sound and air, is disturbing. So now, Diwali is about lighting a few diyas and having a small puja at home. Ranveer Singh Diwali for me means taking time off work to meet family and friends. We do a small puja at home every year. I dont gamble, so I get quite bored at Diwali parties. Instead, I play Uno with the kids at home. The pollution that crackers cause bothers me, so I dont endorse them. However, what I love about the festival is

the general cheer all around, decorated homes and people in a celebratory, chilled-out mode, smiling and having a good time. The highlight of the whole shebang is but, of course the mithais! Sarah Jane Dias My earliest memories of Diwali are of lighting phooljhadis in the building compound. Now, if I happen to fly out of Mumbai on Diwali eve, theres nothing like watching fireworks when you are in the sky. Diwali celebrations for me involve parties, great food and yummy sweets, and I also play the occasional card game. I love the festival and watching my city light up.

India aim for revenge against Kapil Dev asks India to look England beyond Sachin Tendulkar
Billed as the revenge series, India would aim to pay England back in the same coin when the two teams renew cricketing rivalry when they go into what promises to be an engrossing four-match Test rubber from Thursday. India had suffered a humiliating 0-4 series whitewash when they had visited England in July-August last year and would like to avenge the defeat on the back of its spinners in favourable home conditions. England have not won a Test series in India in nearly 28 years and reversing the trend would a tough job for the world number two team. They have been handicapped by the leg-injury to their 6-foot 7-inch fast bowler Steven Finn, who could trouble the Indian batsmen with his steep bounce even on the slow pitches. Finn had little cricket under his belt since landing on the countrys shores as he picked up a thigh muscle strain on the first day of their tour opening game in Mumbai. Indian pacers Ishant Sharma is down with viral fever but Former India captain Kapil Dev on Wednesday advised Mahendra Singh Dhonis men not to depend too much on Sachin Tendulkar and asked the youngsters to shoulder responsibility during the fourTest series against England starting in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Sachin will be the centre of attraction. The focus will be on him. But you can not rely only on Sachin. He is an important player, but it is the time when youngsters will have to shoulder the responsibility, Kapil said. After receiving a 0-4 drubbing at the hands of England late last year, India is looking to exploit the home advantage to its maximum against the visitors. However, Kapil warned that the move may backfire. If you are playing on a turning wicket, toss plays an important role. The team that wins the toss gets an opportunity to play on the fresh wicket. You should always prepare the wicket as per teams strength. But a rank turner might backfire, the veteran all-rounder said. Kapil, meanwhile, said that the upcoming series would be a test for Indias opening pair of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag, who have failed to give the country a solid platform in the recent past. Sehwag and Gambhir are big players, they hold a lot of

Medical experts doubt Pinki Pramanik can rape

Medical experts on Tuesday questioned the police move to slap rape charges on Pinki Pramanik after the former Asian Games gold medallist was declared a male on the basis of a DNA test report. Pinkis medical report, they pointed out, says that the athlete suffers from Disorder of Sexual Development (DSD). A DSD patient, say experts, cannot be termed a male despite an XY chromosome combination, as Pinkis DNA report has confirmed-because such patients are incapable of performing a sexual act. It would be unfair to accuse Pinki of rape, said genetic medicine expert Kaushik Mondol, a member of the medical panel investigating the case. Even though the report says Pinki is chromosomally a male, it doesnt conclude that Pinki is a man... it says the athlete suffers from DSD. DSD patients cant be identified as men, said Mondol, adding they were incapable of penetrative sex. Gynaecologist Gautam Khastagir said, Pinki probably investigating officer said. Pinkis counsel said the report was just a medical opinion, not the final verdict.

he was not in the running for a place in the playing eleven ahead of Zaheer Khan and Umesh Yadav, who are likely to open the new ball attack for the home side. Ashok Dinda has been called up as late cover for Sharma but would warm the bench barring a last-minute injury to Zaheer or Yadav. Indias main weapon would be the spin trio of Pragyan Ojha, Ravichandran Ashwin and veteran Harbhajan Singh, who has been included in the side after a gap of more than a year. Off-spinner Ashwin and left-

arm spinner Ojha have played only a handful of Tests in their budding careers but have proved that they could bowl well in tandem in helpful home conditions. Ashwin had grabbed the man of the series awards in the last two home series - against the West Indies last year and New Zealand this August. Ojha had complemented him nicely. England batsmen, including the recalled Kevin Pietersen, have had very good preparation for the series though they did not play against a top quality spinner.

importance. However, they have been struggling since last 15-20 Tests and it is really terrifying that what will happen if they dont score at the top. Every player has a reputation and on that basis a team is selected but if they dont perform the team might have to struggle. Our opening is weak. If we get a good beginning, we can dominate England, he said. The 53-year-old, who will be starting a fresh innings as a Hindi commentator for broadcasters Star Cricket during the series, added that it will be a tough task for the hosts to win the series with a big margin. The situation is tough. We dont have strong bowling. If we win the series by clinching one or two Tests it will be a

great achievement, Kapil said. Zaheer Khan is not in great form. Harbhajan (Singh) is also not performing well. In such circumstances if we win the series it will be a great thing, he added. India has picked off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin in the team along side left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha. Asked whether the team lacks variety in their attack, Kapil said: If you have two good off spinners, what is the problem in playing both of them. If you have two Tendulkars wont you play them? he asked. Selectors have picked the best available team. Variety should be there, but that doesnt mean you wont play your best player, Kapil added.

has an underdeveloped phallus, an internal testis but doesnt have a vagina or uterus. It makes Pinki a male pseudohermophrodite, not a man. Her aggression can be attributed to male hormones and her chromosome, but her sexual identity remains ambiguous. But the cops say Pinki had blood flow in certain tissues enabling her to have an erection. It (report) says Pinki is not a female...it also indicates Pinki is capable of performing a male sexual act, even if partially... enough to make her capable of attempting rape. After a wait of eight long years, the master storyteller, the most admired and revered director of our times, Yash Chopra, returns with his new motion picture. Regrettably, JAB TAK HAI JAAN happens to be the last film of one of the greatest raconteurs of our times... Yash Chopra is synonymous with love and romance and also spellbinding drama and heartrending emotions. Is synonymous with harmonious music and exquisite poetry and also snow-capped mountains and mustard fields. Is synonymous with waterfalls and rains and also Switzerland and Punjab. And so much more... JAB TAK HAI JAAN encompasses everything that one has come to expect from a Yash Chopra movie. This time, its a brand new setting, but the journey remains the same as his previous love stories -just as the lead man and his lady love sprint towards each other from opposite directions, to cuddle each other lovingly, youre told that the romantic pathway is crammed with thorns and spikes [a quick clarification: all this talk of JAB TAK HAI JAAN being a present-day avatar of Yash Chopras DAAG is absolutely unfounded]. For the hardcore romantics, this ones a treat. But those who *dont* swear by love stories, I am certain, will be able to connect with this film, since the twists and twirls in the screenplay are sure to allure those yearning for something captivatingly distinctive. JAB TAK HAI JAAN is a poignant voyage of three characters. Thankfully, not once does the script or the writers [Aditya Chopra and Devika Bhagat] permit any penetration of superfluous or redundant characters or subplots that wouldve only led to puzzlement. Every episode transpires for a persuasive reason. Besides, the drama is absolutely intriguing, with an undercurrent of emotions running through the length and breadth of the film, thereby adding intensity to this passionate love story. JAB TAK HAI JAAN is not your typical love story. It has the old-world charm written all over it, with twists and turns plenty. It would be a disservice if one were to reveal the journey of the three principal characters -- Samar, Meera and Akira -- since the plot changes from conventional to

seductress [watch her in the Saans track or the music piece]. She looks ethereal and enacts her part with elegance and restraint. As a matter of fact, she glides into her part with effortlessness and acts out some of the difficult moments with flourish. In view of the fact that a major portion of the story focuses on SRK and Katrina, one might assume that Anushkas role is more of a supporting one, but thats entirely fallacious. Shes an integral part of this story and it must be said that she walks away with some of the best scenes and lines in the movie. Her performance is full of grit. On the whole, JAB TAK HAI JAAN resonates an oftrepeated fact: Love stories will come and go. But no one will make them like Yash Chopra. Just dont miss this heartwarming love story!

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Movie Review

unconventional in its second hour. JAB TAK HAI JAAN is attention-grabbing from inception till conclusion. The drama only soars higher and the complex love story gets more and more gripping as the conflict between the characters come to the fore. Mind you, JAB TAK HAI JAAN is not the usual love triangle, with two women fighting for the same guy. Nor can you compare it with any Yash Chopra film of yore either. Yash Chopras brilliancy and vividness is apparent in a number of sequences. And it echoes throughout the film. The poignant moments keep you on the periphery, while the culmination to the narrative may meet with extreme reactions. However, I strongly feel, the conclusion is most befitting for a film that doesnt take the beaten to death pathway. The only hiccup is that it gets too slow-paced at times. Also, the screenplay couldve been tighter at places. A few sequences in the postinterval portions couldve been spruced up for a stronger impact. When Yash Chopra, A.R. Rahman and Gulzar join hands for a film project, the expectations are gargantuan. Its music has to meet the lofty expectations. Chopra Sr.s music has had an eternal impact, but the songs here arent of that towering calibre that you would anticipate from

a Yash Chopra movie. Yet, the melodies that merit a mention are Challa, Saans and Jiya Re. While on music, the music piece and its choreography in the first hour deserve brownie points. The DoP [Anil Mehta] and the production designer give the film a radiant look that befits a classic. The cinematography is surreal, grandiose and simply overwhelming. The vibrant frames add to the magnificence of this already spectacular looking film. The costume designers too come up with a wardrobe thats brimming with stunning outfits. Event films such as JAB TAK HAI JAAN are, generally, embellished with seasoned actors. Thats one of the fundamental reasons why these films appear so tempting. In addition, assembling such accomplished names [in lead roles as also supporting characters] is a rarity and theres a strong possibility that one may not see them sharing screen space ever again. One cant imagine anyone else but Shah Rukh in the role of Samar. An individual with an emotional baggage. Although Shah Rukh has been an integral part of several romantic movies, he enacts it resplendently in JAB TAK HAI JAAN, brushing off any condemnation that he may have encountered for replicating himself in movies of parallel genre. The role gives the actor abundant opportunity to

exhibit his talent and I must add, Shah Rukh transforms himself into the complex character with dexterity. Katrina is the classic Yash Chopra heroine. An enigmatic beauty, who doubles up as a

A blind man walks into a store with his seeing eye dog. All of a sudden, he picks up the leash and begins swinging the dog over his head. The manager runs up to the man and asks, What are you doing?!! The blind man replies, Just looking around. For the past three years, the government has worked hard and spent many tax dollars to find the approval ratings for unemployment. They have concluded that a 7% unemployment level is acceptable to 93% of the working population. Now lets just hope that the unemployment rate doesnt change. The Captain called the Sergeant in. Sarge, I just got a telegram that Private Jones mother died yesterday. Better go tell him and send him in to see me. So the Sergeant calls for his morning formation and lines up all the troops. Listen up, men, says the Sergeant. Johnson, report to the mess hall for KP. Smith, report to Personnel to sign some papers. The rest of you men report to the Motor Pool for maintenance. Oh by the way, Jones, your mother died, report to the commander. Later that day the Captain called the Sergeant into his office. Hey, Sarge, that was a pretty cold way to inform Jones his mother died. Couldnt you be a bit more tactful, next time? Yes, sir, answered the Sarge.

A few months later, the Captain called the Sergeant in again with, Sarge, I just got a telegram that Private McGraths mother died. Youd better go tell him and send him in to see me. This time be more tactful. So the Sergeant calls for his morning formation. Ok, men, fall in and listen up. Everybody with a mother, take two steps forward. Not so fast, McGrath! A blind man was describing his favorite sport, parachuting. When asked how this was accomplished, he said that things were all done for him: I am placed in the door with my seeing eye dog and told when to jump. My hand is placed on my release ring for me and out I go with the dog. But how do you know when you are going to land? he was asked. I have a very keen sense of smell, and I can smell the trees and grass when I am 300 feet from the ground he answered. But how do you know when to lift your legs for the final arrival on the ground? he was again asked. He quickly answered: Oh, the dogs leash goes slack. Tom had this problem of getting up late in the morning and was always late for work. His boss was mad at him and threatened to fire him if he didnt do something about it. So Tom went to his doctor who gave him a pill and told him to take it before he went to bed. Tom slept well and in fact beat the alarm in the morning by almost two hours. He had a

leisurely breakfast and drove cheerfully to work. Boss, he said, The pill actually worked! Thats all fine said the boss, But where were you yesterday? An Israeli soldier who just enlisted asked the Commanding Officer for a 3-day pass. The CO says Are you crazy? You just join the Israeli army, and you already want a 3-day pass? You must do something spectacular for that recognition! So the soldier comes back a day later in an Arab tank! The CO was so impressed, he asked How did you do it? Well, I jumped in a tank, and went toward the border with the Arabs. I approached the border, and saw an Arab tank. I put my white flag up, the Arab tank put his white flag up. I said to the Arab soldier, Do you want to get a three-day pass? So we exchanged tanks! Two men were boasting to each other about their old army days. Why, my outfit was so well drilled, declared one, that when they presented arms all you could hear was slap, slap, click. Very good, conceded the other, but when my company presented arms youd just hear slap, slap, jingle. What was the jingle? asked the first. Oh, replied the other offhand, just our medals.

Trisha follows Mankatha and Manmadhan Ambu

While the industry has been forever facing a dearth of Tamil speaking heroines, Trisha is one of the few who always had a fair command over the language. Yet she dubbed for herself only a handful of occasions as in the case of Mani Ratnams Ayutha Ezhuthu, Venkat Prabhus Mankatha and K.S. Ravikumars Manmadhan Ambu. The latest addition to that list would be for director Thirus Samar which has Vishal in the lead role. It is learnt that Trisha has commenced her dubbing duties for the film. The first look trailer of the film is reportedly ready and may probably be released on the festive occasion of Deepavali.
