District governor s update

Fall into Fall! The season is in full swing! If I havent met you yet, hello! My name is Jonathan Cao-Nguyen and I am the 2012-2013 California-Nevada-Hawaii Circle K District Governor. You might be asking, what does that position even mean? Well, my role in Circle K is that I oversee all 54 clubs from various colleges and universities throughout the three states that make up our District: California, Nevada, and Hawaii. With this job, I pretty much make sure that all the clubs are running properly and that they are provided with all the resources that they need to accomplish everything in the name of Service, Leadership, and Fellowship. So much has happened in our District during these past few months and Im so glad that UCSD has joined along for the ride! Things got insane at the Crazy Kompetition for Infants South and we discovered something more about our organization at the Fall Training Conference. If you attended these events this year, then I hoped that you enjoyed it and if you didnt then, I hope you attend them next year! Fall Quarter is almost over, but that doesnt mean Circle K will be over. There will be tons of events happening during this holiday season when you are back at home. Im sure the board will make sure that you have a fun service and social filled Winter Break. There are still lots of service to be done and I cant wait to serve with you. Enjoy the rest of the quarter, rest up during your vacation time, and see you in 2013! Lastly, big shouts outs to Viet for making these awesome newsletters! Great work Viet! Hope to see you soon! :D Jonathan Cao-Nguyen 2012-2013 District Governor

PRESIDENT S WORDS

Dear UCSD Circle K, WOW! Were already nearing the end of Fall Quarter! I would like to take the time to recognize all of our amazing members. You all have truly made this a spectacular quarter and I feel so honored to have had the opportunity to get to know you all. If I have yet to meet you, I do look forward to meeting you sometime soon! But everyone has definitely shown an amazing amount of compassion for the community and it really shows in all of the service we have done thus far. Please continue doing all that you do for the community and for our club. I would also like to thank our amazing board members for all of these efforts in putting on our various events. They work ridiculously hard and they show so much love for what they do. Please give them a hug or a high five for the work that theyve done so far! This newsletter also exemplifies all of our accomplishments so far and Viet Tran, our Public Relations Chair, has been working so hard to put it together. Take the time to read the articles and see what our organization has been up to. And if you want to contribute in our next newsletter, dont hesitate to contact Viet for more information. KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK UCSD CIRCLE K! I am so proud to be serving you all as President. With Love, Vivian Nguyen

ASSIGNMENT:
New Member Installs By Angela Ngo

NEW MEMBER INSTALLATION

Secret Agents Pocket Guide to Circle K International Agency? Check. Family presentations and skits? Check. Catered Italian food for dinner? Check. Whats all this for, you ask? This and so much more was all prepared for UCSD Circle Ks New Member Installs, an event held on Thursday, October 18 to formally introduce the new members into our club. At Installs, members found out what family they would be spending the next year forming life-long bonds with, as well as meet their Big, who would act as a mentor to guide them in Circle K and even beyond that! Although we were able to book Price Center West Ballroom for the event, Installs landed smack-dab in the middle of the week on a random Thursday of midterms week. Yikes, right? I was incredibly worried right up to the start of Installs, and even throughout the event whether or not members would have a good time, if enough people would show up, if everything would run smoothly, and even if members would have enough time to study for any upcoming midterms. However, I am incredibly glad to say that there was a total of 155 members in attendance. From mingling with the people sitting at your tables, to jumping over and swerving around tables for Penny Wars, to watching Family Presentations, to learning more about Circle K, I really do hope that everyone who came out had a wonderful time! And whether youre a returning member, or a new one, remember to really invest the time in getting to know your sibs, as well as your other family members! Whether youre part of Godly Gods, Loyal Lionhearts, Team Paopu, Koopa Krew, OBGFBTA, or awesome saucers., know that youre officially part of the Circle K family now !

INFILTRATE KIWANIS headquarters

La Jolla Presbyterian Church Fridays at 1200 hours

UCSD Circle K

Kiwanis Luncheon Report: Every Friday, the unknown agents of UCSD Circle K set out on a mission to infiltrate the La Jolla Kiwanis Clubs meeting and every week so far they have been successful in doing so. During these infiltrations, the unknown agents learn the ins and outs of the meeting as well as the members of this club. They learn how to successfully become Kiwanis members themselves. On their arrival, they go get food from the free catered lunch service, sit down at tables filled with Kiwanians and mingle with them. The meeting begins where the President of the organization, Megan McAlister, gives updates and announcements to the members. The agents also sit on what the Kiwanis club is donating money to. Towards the end, the unknown agents listen to the brief life story of the Kiwanian of the Day and enjoy a program that can be music, military or health related. Once the meeting ends at 1330 hours, the unknown agents successfully end their mission of infiltrating the La Jolla Kiwanis Clubs meeting and head back to base, UCSD. Unknown Agent KFC. Report designated to self destruct in T minus 24 hours.

Organization xv: Board appreciation

By Viet Tran

Volume XXII Issue 4

UCSD Circle K

Vivian Nguyen (President) No one can begin to understand the dedication, the passion and commitment that you put into this club. It does injustice for me to simply say you are an amazing, inspiring and charismatic president. You have nurtured and raised not only our board, Organization XV, but UCSD Circle K into an organization that commands presence in the California Nevada Hawaii district. You are our headstrong President, but you are also a loving mother to us all, overseeing each and everyone one of us. I remember you were the first one that I met at my first GBM. And look how youve inspired me here today. Im on board and just helped planned one of the most successful fundraiser for our club. I love this club, I want to do Mball again next year. You have last impactand you know what, Im just one person who has told you this. Im quite sure there are many others youve reached out to. So just wanted to let you know, everything youve done is appreciated in ways beyond comprehension. Love you, Ms. President. (:

Skylar Pagenkopf (VPA) Looking back at it, Im happy that you became VPA instead of me. What you do for this club, is behind the scene, in closed doors and in strenuous hours. Youre such a crucial individual that holds this club together because you have this immense position of professionalism, formality and organization like none other. You are able keep us together. You and many people know that our board has a plethora of personality, powerful dispositions and eccentricities that can be one hell of a chaosbut you manage to calm us, you manage to keep order while allowing us to voice our words. Personally, youve always seem to notice my points of breakdown and that fact that you even remotely ask shows immense support to me. I tend to hide my stress, but you seem to have a universal presence and understanding that makes me want to tell you how I feel. Dont let anyone ever tell you youre not amazing, because you are. And believe it not, I think I share almost anything with you (:

Kevin Wong (VPS) Your dedication and incessant attendance to service events is inexplicably incredible. I dont think people understand how much time and dedication is put into being VP Service. Only someone who truly loves this organization this much would be willing to allocate so much will and time into service. This club is thankful that you are able to provide such diverse and amazing service events for us to attend. And lastly, Im not sure how youll take this, but in a sense you are like a father to us all because you watch out for us, and albeit in tough times, said what is needed to be said because you care. Not mention you also cook some of the most delicious food Ive ever eaten. Circle K is about service, and you provide that, with that what you do is extremely important and you know what, youre damn good at it. (:

Vi Nguyen (Treasurer) Although your name is half of mine, what youve done is double or even ten folds what I could possible even do. Finance has never been my forte so there should be immense appreciation for the organization that you do. A Treasurer deals with so much, and now that we have like what, 200 members, I can only imagine the financial things that arise when theres a payment that comes to the occasion. I remember you were stressed out about FTC and CKI South, but understand that everything worked out. And you have the support of many that agree that the logistical things werent possible without your organization. Also want to say personally, thank you for understanding me in difficult times and those hugs are incomparable. Chocobo Riders for life, and San Diegans for life (:

20

Volume XXII Issue 4

UCSD Circle K

Filip Hess (Secretary) I know you may probably think this post is awkward or something Filip-attitudey but I wanted to say that as secretary, you always on an incessant typing and note taking mode that sometimes you may feel invisible or underappreciated but understand that your position is a very difficult one. Haha, dealing with CERFs and all that stuff is beyond my imagination of understanding. Its cryptic to me but you do your job SO WELL. And I want you to know that it takes commitment for that. I mean, who knew that during election, you would become Secretary? But Im damn glad that you did because like many of the board members, you are damn good at what you do.

Precious Nicanor (Kiwanis Family) You will always be my other pair. You are the 2 to my 1. You are my Muir sister even though Im from Sixth. Its undeniable. Precious, youve done so much for this club as a Kiwanis Family Chair. I know you put so much work into it, despite being involved with so many other organizations I begin to wonder if you have a twin because its incredulous to think that you are capable of so many amazing accomplishment at the same time. That Distinguised Aboard Award. We are getting it. Together (:

Angela Ngo (MDE) My lovely partner in crime, as youll always be! You are pure energy, pure spirit and pure awesomeness (Awesome Saucersteehee). There isnt any that I have ever met that could make sentences sound like rap lyrics. There is also not anyone that I have met that is so bubbly and boisterous as you are. Youre so welcoming and like many other board members, damn good at what you do. I feel appreciated like a lot, like damn girl, I loved your FTC car CD, got some good jams there. Ngo that talking to you always seems to put a smile on my face (:

Celia Fang (Internal Fundraising) My dear Fang Fang! I have to say that what you have been doing and your accomplishments. Ive been quite envious of. I question how you are able to plan and organize such delicious fundraisers. And I say successful ones too. I know you put so much hard work into planning out these fundraisers and in the end, you see the success by the happy glees on people face as they chow down on your simply amazing fundraising food. Also, damn, you looked like a goddess at Mball with your dress (:

Amy Wang (External Fundraising) Im at lost for words when I want to describe the commitment that youve already given to this club. As the youngest/newest of our board member, youve already demonstrated prodigious dedication to the club. Youre always bubbling with ideas and trying your best to plan new fundraising events. I want to say that you were definitely, an instrumental factor in the success of Mball. Your dedication and ideas make this entire event such a success and its such a pleasure working with you for that event. (:

Steven Nguyen (Historian) This dork. You know, that term of endearment for you just doesnt do justice because Im so inspired and moved by your dedication to this club. You bring yourself into what you do. There is Steven sass in the way you take your photos, your recap video, and your involvement with other committees. You leave a mark, and pretty damn amazing one that no one forgets the that this what Steven did and is capable of. Everyone is always blown away by the things youve created and thats not even the gist of it. I cant wait to see our scrapbook because at FTC when people walk over to see our scrapbooks theyll saywell damn, Steven did it again (:

David Mei (Technology) Might I say that the website looks damn amazing. As technology chair, a lot of people dont understand that your work was over the summer and the dedication and innovation that is put into creating the website is beyond my understanding. First of all, programming is cryptic to me. Youre so amazing and smart to be capable of such a feat. And I notice every week because I have to create the GBM event, that you are continuously updating the page with little tid bits here and there. People may notice it, but they should because its incredible to see the hours updating and just everything up to date! (:

Claire Lu (Spirit) You are one unique girl! Ive never met someone with a personality like yours. And I may I say its quite fitting that youre spirit chair because you hold attention with your outspoken voice and your boisterous personality that demands presence. I always seem to enjoy the ice breakers. When I met you before Circle K, I never thought that you would be someone to be on board with but here we are and it has been one hell of a time together! (: Just remember to keep the motivation because were almost done and I cant wait for what amazing spirit cheers, ice breakers and possibly even the DCON talent act. You go girl!

Tina Nguyen (Single Service) Oh girl who is a female version of a hustla. I cannot even fathom how much fun I have around you, while although it may be one sided, youre irresistible not to poke fun at and I mean that in the best terms of endearment. I wanted to let you know that your dedication and commitment for this club is crazy, I dont understand how you manage things sometimes and Im so excited for the large scale service projects you are planning at! I have great conviction that itll turn out amazing! Tina, youre just amazing, like all the time and I know that I have SO MANY PEOPLE to back up that statement. (:

Vivian Li (Social) Heyyyyy girl, you and I would make one hell of a twerk team. But being social chair is one hell of a job. I know I initially wanted to do that position and I learned it was so much work that I backed out so I commend you wholeheartedly for what you do. It takes so much time and understanding people to place people in families and organize social events each week. On another note, you have this strong willed personality that speaks her mind, is vibrant and definitely the spirit to be one hell of a social chair. I love the times that we get to spend together and I wish there was more of it because I love you my ratchet sister, because you are crazy, crazy good at what you do. Keep it up (:
