Media Action 5 Lead Producer (Radio) Yangon 12 months (renewable) fixed term contract, full time

Context BBC Media Action is recruiting three dedicated Radio Reporters to work on its Burmese youth radio programme LLKS (Lin Lat Kyair Sin/Bright Young Stars). BBC Media Action has recently obtained permission to open a country office in Yangon. We aim to establish a local production team in Yangon from January 2013. BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to: Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues. Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. Job purpose LLKS Radio Reporters will be responsible for creating content for the radio show, drawing from diverse audiences across Myanmar, using a peer to peer approach. Reporters will also be required to buddy with BBC Media Actions radio trainees to provide opportunities for trainees to practice and develop their radio skills. Reporters are line managed by the LLKS Lead Producer. The posts are based in Yangon but will require frequent travel across Myanmar. Main duties Undertake editing, interviewing and reporting duties as necessary, including research and reporting stories on location. Support producers in planning the schedule and shows content Generate and research ideas for the show and pitch to Lead Producer and production team Support producers in sourcing potential contributors and interviewees Use technology, such as audio recorders and Adobe Audition, for editing and production purposes Essential skills and experience Understand the needs and requirements of radio productions Ability to find stories and develop for radio or other media Keen to learn and develop improved media skills Creative thinker able to find solutions to a variety of issues Excellent communications skills, including written and spoken Burmese Willing and able to travel extensively throughout Myanmar Ability to work within the BBCs editorial standards and guidelines including compliance Desirable skills and experience Good written and spoken English Journalism or radio presenting skills Strong understanding of youth and development issues
