Stephen Kings Bag of Bones

Not to be missed this Christmas is a heart-stopping mystery chiller adapted from the award-winning, bestselling novel by master of horror Stephen King. Pierce Brosnan (two-time Golden Globe nominee and star of four Bond movies) plays a newly widowed writer plagued by haunting nightmares and caught up in a sinister custody case in a lakeside town in western Maine. Winner of the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel of 1998 and the British Fantasy Award in 1999, Bag of Bones is a multi-layered story of grief and lost love, a new love haunted by past secrets, an innocent child caught in a terrible crossfire and of a battle between two spirits from the netherworld, one of them motivated by love, the other by hatred and revenge. Melissa George (Home and Away, Hunted, Greys Anatomy), Annabeth Gish (The West Wing, Pretty Little Liars, Brotherhood), Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency), William Schallert (Desperate Housewives, Medium, True Blood), Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills, 90210) and Caitlin Carmichael (True Blood) also star. Unable to stop grieving after his wife is killed in a road accident, novelist Mike Noonan returns to the couples lakeside cabin in Maine where he is plagued by disturbing dreams, ghostly visitations and communiqus from beyond the grave. See page 24 for the complete synopsis.

Celebrity Wedding Planner: EastEnders Special (Series 3: 1/3)

Making a welcome return this Christmas is the popular prime-time series in which couples sign over to celebrities total control of their wedding arrangements. The past two series have seen some unusual and surprising events, often a far cry from the bride and grooms original conception of their big day. So how will the latest three unsuspecting couples react to showbiz razzamatazz, a fusion of Ibiza glamour and vintage Great Gatsby style, and the full Essex treatment? There is one huge catch in Celebrity Wedding Planner. The couple do not know the identity of the celebrities who will be planning their wedding until it is too late for them to back out! This is for obvious reasons, as the thought of Jedward, Denise Welch or Louie Spence arranging anyones wedding might make even the bravest bride run a mile! This week, two of Walfords finest John Partridge (aka EastEnders Christian Clarke) and Nina Wadia (aka Zainab Masood) plan the big day for Jade and George from Kent. The 25-year-old bride-to-be dreams of a stylish black-and-white themed wedding to 28-year-old carpenter George, but Nina and John have something rather different in mind. See page 13 for the complete synopsis.

Worlds Biggest Pets

For some pet-owners, big is truly beautiful. This quirky one-off documentary meets some of the worlds biggest animals romping through homes and neighbourhoods too close for comfort. These include seven-feet-tall dogs, rabbits that weigh the same as a five-year-old and the biggest pet on the planet! The journey starts in Nottingham, home to a huge dog called Mighty Finn. The worlds tallest canine, however, lives on the other side of the Atlantic. Standing at a monumental 110cm tall from paw to shoulder, Giant George is the same height as two average golden retrievers and the same weight as 35 Yorkshire terriers Giant George, however, is not in the same league as Wild Thing. Ronald from Texas has devoted his life to his pet bison, but letting an animal the same size as a small family car wander around your living room doesnt come without challenges. Back in the UK, the programme meets reptile fanatic Nicki from Newcastle. By her last count she had 88 snakes, lizards and spiders, but her pride and joy is her pet Burmese python. Capable of eating her whole, she was recently rescued by Nicki from her previous owner who found her too big and dangerous to handle. The pitter-patter of gigantic paws sounds rather louder than usual in this fascinating insight into the amazing world of all creatures great and tall.

50 Shocking Facts about Diet and Exercise

This two-hour countdown show looks at the shocking truth behind what we eat and the often dangerous and misguided methods we adopt in order to lose weight. Scientists, industry experts and exponents explain the pros and cons of fad diets, healthy foods and extreme exercise regimes. We all know about the benefits of exercise, good diet, looking good and living a healthy lifestyle, but most of the things that are good for us can bring side-effects that are precisely the opposite. Incontinence, infertility, infected genitalia, energydrink madness, hip replacements and even death are commonplace among the beautiful people as are botched surgeries, extremely dangerous selfharming diets and bizarre exercise programmes. Ironically, although it might not be healthier, it is much simpler and safer to spend your days lying on the couch watching television and eating chocolate (which prevents strokes, by the way)

A Right Royal 2012

With the diamond jubilee coinciding with the London Olympics, 2012 was always going to be a memorable year for the royal family, but it was actually a combination of unexpected elements that made 2012 a right royal year. Prince Williams wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011 rekindled the romance between the public and the British royal family. But as 2012 loomed, a more pressing crisis confronted the royals. On December 23rd, Prince Philip was airlifted to hospital suffering chest pains. Over the following 12 months the family would face the publication of embarrassing photographs, legal battles with foreign press, more illness, a rain-lashed jubilee flotilla and Harry playing strip billiards in Las Vegas. Since the death of Diana, the royal family has had 15 years to adapt to dealing with press and publicity in the modern world. How did they cope in their most important year for decades and how would this remarkable year change them? Was this the year that Charles was nudged out of the limelight to allow the Queen to bask in the glow from William and Kate? Would Harry, against all expectation, become our new favourite? Would 2012 be the crowning glory to Elizabeth IIs reign? These and many other questions are put to those who know the royal family intimately, including former MP Ann Widdecombe, Dianas private secretary Patrick Jephson, the pageant master of the jubilee flotilla Adrian Evans, royal correspondent Robert Jobson and social historian Dominic Sandbroke.

Melissa George (The Slap, Hunted, Greys Anatomy), Annabeth Gish (The West Wing, Pretty Little Liars, Brotherhood), Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency), William Schallert (Desperate Housewives, Medium, True Blood), Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills, 90210) and Caitlin Carmichael (True Blood) also star. Bestselling novelist Mike Noonan (Brosnan) is devastated when his wife Jo (Gish) is killed in a road accident. Unable to stop grieving and gripped by writers block, he is inspired by a strange dream to return to the couples lakeside retreat in Maine to seek answers to some troubling questions. Why had Jo spent so much time there recently, and why did she buy a pregnancy test? Mike had hidden the results of a low sperm count from her. Was she having an affair? At Dark Score Lake, Mike befriends attractive young widow Mattie Devore (Melissa George, Golden Globe nominee for In Treatment) and becomes embroiled in her battle for custody of her daughter Kyra (Carmichael) against her rich and powerful father-in-law, Max Devore (Schallert). Max cannot forgive Mattie for shooting his son when he went crazy and tried to kill Kyra.

Though Mikes writers block suddenly disappears, he is plagued by disturbing dreams, ghostly visitations and communiqus from beyond the grave. For beneath the tranquil waters of Dark Score Lake lurk secrets, some of them deeper under the surface than others. A young black blues singer named Sara Tidwell (Rose) disappeared whilst playing at the local fair in 1939 and her spirit still lingers in Mikes cabin. But as Mike becomes haunted by the many secrets at the lake, he comes to realise that his late wife still has something to tell him. Bag of Bones was filmed in Nova Scotia and adapted by Matt Venne from the New York Times No 1 bestseller by Stephen King. The director, Mick Garris, is no stranger to the horror genre, with Masters of Horror, Critters 2 and the Channel 5 series Fear Itself among his writing credits. He also directed the TV series of Stephen Kings The Stand. The executive producers are Mark Sennet for Mark Sennet Entertainment Inc, Mick Garris for Nice Guy Productions Inc. and Stewart Mackinnon for Headline Pictures Limited. Brian Gary and David Davoli are the co-executive producers.

The Mentalist Black Cherry (Series 5: 9/24)

The acclaimed US crime drama series continues. In this instalment, as Jane keeps on the trail of Red John, the team investigate the murder of a real estate agent with a chequered past. Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor-sharp skills of observation. Within the CBI, Jane is notorious for his blatant lack of protocol and his semi-celebrity past as a former psychic medium, whose paranormal abilities he now admits he feigned. However, Janes role in cracking a series of tough, high-profile cases is greatly valued. No-nonsense senior agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) alternates between reluctantly acknowledging Janes usefulness and lambasting him for his theatrics, narcissism and dangerous penchant for crossing boundaries. Lisbons team includes agents Kimball Cho (Tim Kang), who serves as the lead interrogator; Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman), the team's resident fire and explosives expert; and relative newcomer Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti), the optimist who is often at odds with Jane's more jaded views. In this series, one of Red Johns alluring accomplices, Lorelei Martins, is in custody, meaning that the hunt for the elusive serial killer gets back on track. After assisting the CBI team with solving the states most serious crimes, Jane now senses that Red John is closer than ever. He may be already on the CBIs radar. With his wits always about him, Jane ventures wherever the CBI team is summoned, but always with an eye over his shoulder. In this episode, the CBI team investigates the murder of a real estate agent with former gang ties, while Jane searches for leads on his new connection to Red John.
