1x12 – He Knew!

(Claire Littleton Centric)

There is no ‘previously on Lost’ section. The episode starts

straight away.

Exterior. Beach – Claire’s Tent. (Morning).

The camera is focused on a closed eye. The eye snaps open

and blinks several times under the bright sunlight. The camera
pans out and we see that it was Claire’s eye. She get’s up from
her bed and rubs her head, looking around, still feeling unsure
of her new surroundings. Claire exits her tent and see’s Charlie
also walking from his tent, topless, holding a shirt in his hands.
Claire smiles at him, who returns it. Charlie pulls the shirt on
and walks over to Claire.

Charlie:
Morning.

Claire:
You too.
(Looking up at the sky)
It’s a nice morning.

Charlie:
Sure is. You want some breakfast?

Claire:
Only if you’re having some.

Charlie:
I was gunna have some fruit salad. I have a real craving for it.

Charlie grins and begins to walk over to where the food is

stored. Claire follows after him. When they arrive at the table,
Hurley and Libby are stood preparing some food.

Hurley:
Morning, dudes. Nice day.
 Hurley grins at Charlie and Claire. Charlie begins to get some
fruit.

Claire:
Yeah, I was just saying that.

Libby:
Anyway, we’ll see you later.

Hurley and Libby walk off towards their tent as Charlie begins
to chop the fruit up into small pieces.

Claire:
You want some help?
(Picking up a mango)
I don’t mind.

Charlie:
Don’t be daft. I’m nearly done.

As Charlie finishes up the fruit salads the camera cuts to:

Exterior. Beach – Jack’s Tent (Morning).

Jack and Kate are sat outside of Jack’s tent in the middle of
eating some fruit.

Kate:
Can you believe that we’ve been here for three weeks already?!

Jack:
I know! It’s flow by.
(Grinning)
What do you miss the most?

Kate:
Jack... I have to tell you something.

Jack frowns, as he continues to look at Kate.

Jack:
Yeah?
 Kate:
I... am wanted by the police. For murder...

Jack:
Oh... and why are you telling me this?

Kate:
I was captured in Australia. But I managed to escape once
again. I just thought you should know. Because...

Jack:
(Cutting her off)
We all get a new start here Kate. It doesn’t matter what you’ve
done. It won’t affect anything. It won’t change how I feel about
you.

Kate:
How you feel about me?

Jack smiles again at Kate’s confusion and goes back to eating

his breakfast. The camera fades to black.

-LOST-
Commercial Break.

Flashback – Interior. Claire’s Studio – Australia (Day).

The camera focuses on a closed eye as it opens. The eye blinks

several times before the camera pans out slightly to reveal it is
Claire. She gets up from her bed and walks into the bathroom.
The camera follows her into the bathroom as Claire runs the
tap and begins to splash water on her face, to wake herself up.
Claire suddenly moves over to the toilet and is violently sick!
We hear a door open somewhere and a voice speak.

Voice (O.S.):
Claire?

Claire:
Yeah, I’ll be out in a minute.
Claire finishes off in the bathroom and walks out of it. We see a
man in the kitchen putting things away out of a paper bag. We
see that Claire lives in a two roomed studio – the kitchen,
bedroom and dining area are all in the same room. Claire walks
over to the man and kisses him on the lips.

Man:
I got your diet cola.

Claire:
(Grinning)
You’re a star. Thomas.

She kisses him again. And watches him put the rest of his
shopping away.

Thomas:
You want some breakfast?

Claire:
No, I’m alright thanks. Not very hungry.

Thomas:
(Frowning)
You ok?

Claire:
Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little sick. I’ll be ok soon.

Thomas:
Alright then, if you’re sure? I better be off to work.

Thomas kisses Claire and walks out of the front door. The
camera focuses on Claire looking uneasy as the flashback
sound is heard...

Exterior. Jungle – Hatch (Day).

We see Locke and Boone stood beside the hatch which has
been dug out even more from the last time we saw it. They are
both looking at it in silence.
 Locke:
I’m glad you changed your mind Boone. And I promise, we will
tell them soon.

Boone:
Ok then. So how are we going to get into this then?!

Locke:
I had a dream last night. It was about the hatch. Just the hatch
for ages. And then I saw a plane crash on the island. I think
that’s where we need to go to. The plane.

Boone:
(Frowning, trying to keep a straight face)
You think a dream is really going to help us get into here?

Locke:
I know that it sounds unbelievable, but I think that the island
was trying to tell me something.

Boone:
(Now laughing)
You’ve lost it.

Locke:
Please, just come. I bet it will help us.

Boone:
Alright then. But if it doesn’t, we tell everyone. Deal?

Locke:
(Looking a tad uneasy for a moment)
Deal.

Boone holds out his hand which Locke shakes, rather

reluctantly.

Boone:
Lead the way.

Locke leads Boone off into the jungle as the camera cuts to:
 Exterior. Beach. (Day).

Hurley and Libby as sat on the beach. Hurley has his arm round
Libby and they’re both smiling.

Libby:
So, you get the blankets?

Hurley:
Yeah, I will. Meet me by the tree line.

Libby:
Where are you taking me?

Libby clings onto Hurley’s arm and grins at him. Hurley shakes
his head.

Libby:
Come on man, tell me.

Hurley:
No. You’ll find out when we get there.

Libby pouts before kissing Hurley. The camera cuts to Claire

and Charlie sat on the beach finishing their breakfast.

Charlie:
Did you enjoy that?

Claire:
Yeah, I did. Thanks.

Claire smiles at her.

Charlie:
That’d good. Has any of your memory come back?

Claire:
(Shaking her head)
No, unfortunately.
The camera focuses on Claire’s face as the flashback sound is
heard...

Flashback. Exterior. Richard Malkin’s Home – Australia. (Day).

We see Claire and a woman approaching a large house.

Claire:
Samantha! I can’t... we really need to save our money.

Samantha:
I’ll pay. Now come on.

Samantha gets a hold of Claire’s arm and pulls her towards the
house. She rings the door bell and they wait. A moment later a
man opens the door.

Samantha:
Hello, Mr. Malkin? We had an appointment. For a reading.

Mr. Malkin:
Oh, yeah. Come on in.

Mr. Malkin steps aside and Claire and Samantha walk into the
house. The scene cuts to:

Flash (Continued). Interior. Richard Malkin’s Home – Australia

(Day).

We see Claire sat down at a small table in the centre of the

room opposite Mr. Malkin. Samantha is sat on a sofa at the side
of the room, watching them. Mr. Malkin holds his hands out on
the desk.

Mr. Malkin:
Your hands, please?

Claire holds her hands out and places them in Mr. Malkin’s.

Claire:
So, how does this work Mr. Malkin?
 Mr. Malkin:
Richard, please. I can’t begin to explain how this works. I don’t
really understand it myself.

Claire:
Oh... ok. So what happens now?

Richard:
Just give me a moment.

Richard falls silent and Claire follows suit, waiting for him to
continue. He suddenly makes a movement with his head.

Richard:
(With closed eyes)
Oh. When did you find out?

Claire:
When did I find out about what?

Richard:
The baby.

Claire turns to look at Samantha with wide eyes before saying:

Claire:
Umm... two days ago.

Richard:
I see. And Thomas doesn’t know?

Claire:
You know about Thomas?!

Richard doesn’t reply.

Claire:
Yeah, I haven’t told him yet. I don’t know how he’d react.

Richard:
I can see something.
 Claire:
Oh?

Richard:
The baby...

Claire:
What about it?

Richard:
Danger surrounds your child!

Claire:
What?! Is something wrong with it? Will something be wrong
with my baby?

Richard:
You must raise this child, Miss. Littleton. You and you only.

Claire:
What about Thomas?

Richard:
He will play no part in this child’s life.

Claire:
Why? What do you mean?

Claire is getting agitated now – agitated because Richard is

both pissing her off and intriguing her as she is desperate to
know more.

Richard:
The father won’t play a part in you’re baby’s life.

Claire:
Why not?

Richard:
Oh. You don’t know yet, do you?

Claire:
 Know what?

Richard:
You must raise this child, Miss. Littleton.

Claire suddenly stands up and pulls her hands away from

Richard. She turns to Samantha.

Claire:
Come on, we’re going.

Samantha:
But-

Claire:
Sam, please.

Richard now stands up.

Richard:
You must listen to me. It is an imperative that you raise this
child. I know you will have your doubts, and even consider
adoption. But you mustn’t!

Claire:
I’m going! Thanks for taking my $60.

Richard puts his hand in his pocket and takes out the money.
He thrusts it at Claire.

Richard:
Here, take it! You must raise the child Claire.

Claire:
(Taking the money)
Both me and Thomas will raise the child!

Claire opens the door and Samantha follows her out. Richard
watches her walking away, with sorrow in his eyes. The camera
cuts to Claire and Samantha at the bottom of the garden as
Claire’s cell phone rings. She answers it.
 Doctor:
Miss. Littleton?

Claire:
Yeah...?

Doctor:
I’m afraid I have some bad news for you. Your boyfriend... he’s
been in an accident.

The camera focuses on Claire’s face as she turns, wide-eyed to

look back at Richard who is still watching them. The flashback
sound is heard...

Exterior. Jungle. (Day).

Locke and Boone are walking through the jungle. Locke is in

the lead.

Boone:
How do you even know where to go?! The dream didn’t ‘tell’
you where the plane would be.

Locke:
No, but the island will.

Boone:
(Frowning)
Yeah, the island.

Locke:
See! I told you.

Locke points ahead and the camera follows his arm. We see a
corpse lying in the middle of some tall grass.

Boone:
That’s a sign?

Locke, ignoring Boone, rushes ahead and reaches the corpse.

The camera pans down to it and we see it is dressed in black
 clothes and a dog collar. It is a priest. Boone catches up with
him.

Boone:
A priest?

Locke:
I... aint so sure...

Locke bends down to the corpse and begins to go through its

pockets. He pulls something out and shows it too Boone. It is a
gun. The camera focuses on it as the camera fades to black.

Commercial Break.

Exterior. Beach – (Not Crash Beach) (Day).

We see Hurley and Libby walking through some trees onto a

beach.

Hurley:
Sayid told me about this place. He found it the other day. I
thought... we could stay here the night.

Libby:
(Smiling)
Aww, Hurley. That’s a great idea.

The camera pans round and we see some food and water
already on the beach beside a small campfire – Hurley must
have come earlier. The camera pans back to Hurley and Libby
as Libby takes Hurley’s hand and they begin to walk over to the
campfire. The camera cuts to:

Exterior. Jungle. (Day).

We see Locke and Boone walking through the jungle once

again. Locke is still looking at the gun that they found on the
corpse.

Boone:
So if it wasn’t a priest, then who was he?
 Locke:
I don’t know. I have no idea.

Boone:
(Mockingly)
Well didn’t your dream tell you?

Locke and Boone walk into a clearing and stop walking, looking
upwards. The camera follows their gaze and we see a yellow
Beach Craft perched in the canopy hanging over a cliff. The
camera cuts back to their faces.

Locke:
I told you.

Boone:
And you’re going to go up there?

Locke:
No. You are.

Boone:
Me? Why would I go up there?

Locke:
To see if you’re right or not.

Boone:
But... it doesn’t look safe. It could fall. I could die!

Locke:
Well... it’s up to you.

Locke looks at Boone, defiantly who sighs.

Boone:
Fine.

Boone walks over to the vines and begins to climb them. The
camera cuts to Locke’s face as he watches him climb. We
camera cuts back to Boone climbing as he reaches the top. He
climbs into the plane though a broken window.

Interior. Beach Craft. (Day).

Boone pulls himself into the plane through the window. He

cannot stand up as the plane is small, cramped. The plane is
full of Virgin Mary statues and large, slightly ripped maps.
Boone pulls himself further into the plane, ignoring the statues
and maps. He spots a radio at the front of the plane and moves
forward to examine it. The camera cuts to the outside of the
plane as we see it lurch forward. It cuts back inside as Boone as
he turns on the radio. All we can here is static. The camera cuts
back to the outside and we see the plane lurch once again
forward. It cuts back to the inside as someone talks from the
radio:

Man:
Hello?

Boone:
Hello?!

Man:
Who is this?

Boone:
My name is Boone Carlyle. I’m a survivor of Oceanic Flight-

The plane lurches forward again and Boone is cut off talking.
The camera cuts to the outside of the plane and it tumbles to
the ground and smashes.

Exterior. Jungle. (Day).

Locke rushes forward towards the half destroyed plane.

Locke:
Oh, god!

We see another corpse lying on the floor which must have fell
out of the plane. Locke reaches the plane and pulls Boone out
 of it. He is covered in cuts and bruises and blood. As Locke
begins to lift him up the camera cuts to:

Exterior. Beach. (Day).

We see Jin fishing in the jungle as he hears someone moaning

from the jungle. He looks up and see’s that no one is near him.
Thinking he must be hearing things, he goes back to his net.
The moaning continues. Jin drops the net on the beach and
begins to walk towards the jungle. As the moaning continues
he begins to run. After a moments running, he reaches a
clearing with an overturned tree in the middle. Claire is sat on
it, moaning.

Jin:
(Subtitled) Are you ok?

Claire:
I don’t- I don’t understand.

Jin:
What’s... wrong?

Claire:
Nothing, I’m fine.

Claire moans again and grabs her stomach.

Jin:
Baby?

Claire:
(Shaking her head)
No... I’m fine.

Jin:
I’ll... get someone.

Jin rushes off back towards the beach as the flashback sound is
heard...

Flashback. Interior. Hospital – Australia. (Day).

We see Claire sat on a chair beside a bed with her head in her
hands. She looks as if she’s been crying and hasn’t slept in a
while. She takes Thomas’ hand and says:

Claire:
I’m sorry Thomas. I’m sorry. Please, wake up. I don’t know what
I’d do without you. I’m pregnant! We’re supposed to keep the
baby. We have to be together. We have to raise the baby...

The camera focuses on Claire’s face as she realises something.

Claire:
Oh, my God! The psychic. Richard... he-

Claire is cut of as Thomas’ heart rate monitor begins to flat

line. A nurse rushes over and begins to examine him as several
other people come.

Nurse:
You’re going to have to move, please.

Claire doesn’t move, she just looks at Thomas as tears fall

down her face. The nurse gently leads Claire away as she
continues to look at Thomas.

Claire:
Richard... He knew!

The camera pans over to Thomas as the doctors try to

resuscitate him. We hear the monitor flat lining as the camera
fades to black.

Commercial Break.

Exterior. Beach. (Day).

We see Jin running out of the jungle and up to Kate, who is the
only person on the beach. Jin runs up to her and grabs her.

Kate:
Jin? What is it?
 Jin:
Claire... baby. Jungle!

Jin points towards the jungle as Kate turns to look.

Kate:
Oh...

Jin turns and runs back to the jungle as Kate follows him. The
camera cuts to:

Exterior. Jungle. (Day).

Locke, carrying Boone, walks out of the jungle and over to

Jack’s tent. He lies Boone down as Jack rushes over.

Jack:
What happened?

Locke:
A fell from a cliff. There was a plane... he was in it. It fell...

Jack:
Oh God! I’m going to need some help. Get Sun please...

Locke nods and runs off to get Sun as the camera cuts to:

Exterior. Jungle. (Day).

Jin leads Kate up to Claire who is still moaning on the tree. Kate
runs up to her.

Kate:
Claire... Claire, oh my God. It’s going to be ok.

Claire:
No, I’m fine.

Kate:
You’re not. You’re in labour...
(Turning towards Jin)
 Go and get Jack.

Jin:
(Nodding)
Jack.

Jin runs off back towards the beach as the flashback sound is
heard...

Flashback – Exterior. Claire’s Studio – Australia (Day).

We see Claire sat on her bed with a phone in one hand and a
piece of paper in the other. She dials a number into the phone
and waits. We here someone speak and we realise it is Richard
Malkin.

Richard:
Miss. Littleton. I’m so sorry.

Claire:
You knew... didn’t you?

Richard:
Yes, I’m afraid I did.

Claire:
Why didn’t you tell me?

Richard:
You must keep the baby Claire. Promise me. You must.

Claire:
I don’t know if I can... not by myself.

Richard:
You have too!

Claire:
No... I’m going to give it up. For adoption.

Claire hangs up the phone and begins to cry as the flashback

sound is heard...
 Exterior. Jungle. (Sunset).

We see Claire and Kate still in the jungle. Claire is still moaning
and Kate is looking at her watch. After a moment, she says:

Kate:
I think it’s time...

The camera focuses on Claire’s face as she screams loudly. The

camera fades to black.

VO: Claire gives birth.
