Hurricane Sandy causes extensive destruction

Hurricane Sandy struck the East coast of the US and portions of the Caribbean in oct 12. It was the largest Atlantic Ocean hurricane with a diameter over 1000 miles. It caused extensive damage to the coastline, business and deaths of over 150 people, with 90 in the USA. There was flooding, power cuts and fuel shortages.

Our World
The Sundarbans is the worlds largest river delta and estuarine mangrove forest. The Sunderbans Bangladesh & India The total area is approx. 10,000 sq km; with onethirds in India and two-thirds in Bangladesh. This has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. The Sundarbans forest lies in the vast delta on the Bay of Bengal.

The Sundarbans has the highest population of the Royal Bengal tigers. There are many species of birds, spotted deer, crocodile, snakes. It is one of the most densely populated areas of the world. It was in the final list of New7 Wonders of Nature.

The Sundarbans Tiger Reserve was created in 1973 and spans approx. 2585 sq. km

The Concorde
The Concorde Supersonic aircrafts were jointly manufactured by France's Aerospatiale and British Aircraft Corporation. It was a turbo-jet powered supersonic aircraft. Concorde was tested for over 5000 hours before it was certified for passenger flights. Commercial flights, operated by British Airways and Air France, began on January 21, 1976, and ended on October 24, 2003, with the last "retirement" flight on November 26, that year. Only 20 Concordes were built. The engines used 'reheat' technology during takeoff and travel faster than sound.

The Concorde could cross the Atlantic Ocean is under 4 hours. Concordes fastest transatlantic crossing was on 7 February 1996 when it completed the New York to London flight in 2 hours 52 minutes and 59 seconds. However, these flights were not profitable and soon there were plans to stop this service. On 25th July 2000, Concorde Flight 4590 crashed and killed all passengers and crew. In April 2003, both British Airways and Air France announced that they would be stopping the Concorde service later that year. More than 2.5 million had flown the Concorde. The final flight of a Concorde world-wide took place on 26 November 2003 with a landing at Filton, Bristol, UK.
