T ulsa, Okla.-based Manhattan Construction has been

constructing buildings since 1896. With a life span
that exceeds most companies’, this firm was posi-
tioned to give unparalleled expertise during its work at
Longhorn Village, a mixed-use, master-planned, continuing
care retirement community in Austin, Texas.
Manhattan began work on the $70.6 million project in
January 2008, and is expected to finish in November 2009.
The Village includes an Independent Living Building, which
contains 173 residential units in two apartment building
wings. These connect to a commons area, which features a
kitchen, dining, recreational area and other common facilities.

Manhattan Construction Company says it has set an indus-

In its early years, Manhattan built courthouses, offices,
schools and universities, industrial plants and hospitals in
Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. The company built the
original Oklahoma State Capitol Building in Guthrie in
1907 and the relocated Capitol in Oklahoma City in 1919.
“During World War II, Manhattan completed over $1 bil-
lion in military base, hangar, apron, barrack and other
defense mobilization projects for the U. S. Defense depart-
ment,” the company notes. For these World War II achieve-
ments, Manhattan was awarded two Army-Navy “E” awards
for excellence. “Manhattan was quickly gaining recognition
as a forward-thinking company that was helping to shape
America,” it explains.
