THE PLANETS

1999- 2001 Linda Rankin The planets represent actions and energies within our charts and ourselves. How they operate is influenced by the signs they are falling in and the aspects they make with other planets and chart points. Where they operate most strongly is shown by the houses they reside in. SUN: Rules Leo. Ego Self The sun is your core, your basic ego, your solar center. It is your vitality, sense of self and basic characteristics. It is modified by other influences, most powerfully by the moon and ascendant. The other planets filter the sun's energies explaining 'how' the sun reacts, understands and process life but never replace the sun's significance or importance in portraying 'who you are'. It also signifies masculine principals and the important men in your life and how you react to them, how you 'challenge' them and how find a sense of equality with them. The sun is the center of the chart and represents ego structures (what will be important to you), self pride (positive and negative) and "self". MOON: Rules Cancer Emotions Responses Reactions Memories The Moon symbolizes how you process emotions. It explains reactions and responses that come from an internal and instinctual level. It helps you understand how you bond and connect with women and explains the most predominant influence of your mother. The natal moon is a map of your emotional system and wonderfully explains how a feeling arrives, where it goes, how you deal with it and what you do with it. It is reflective and subjective, instinctual and reactive. MERCURY: Rules Gemini and Virgo. Thoughts Intellect Communication Logic Mercury is the single most important personal planet in your chart. It symbolizes the one asset that you have complete control over; your thoughts. Mercury explains how you learn, how you deal with facts and details, how you process information, how you store it, what captures your intellectual attention and how you communicate with the world around you. It allows you to understand your natural learning style. It deals with all matters of communication and conversation, with the exchange of ideas and plan making. VENUS: Rules Taurus and Libra Values Aesthetics Beauty Romance Love Venus is about love and "what" you love, of course, but it is also about what you value, what you see as beautiful, what you desire. Venus symbolizes aesthetics, beauty, talent, art, money, romance and romantic love. Your sense of personal style will be highlighted by the sign your Venus is in. The values of Venus are transiting, they change, they grow, they shift as you mature and grow. In a man Venus will give indications of the kind of woman that he will be attracted to. In a woman's chart it will symbolize how she express her love, how she explores a romance. MARS: Rules Aries Ambition Aggression Movement Action Mars rules your driving ambitions, your aggressions and your ability to go after the things you need and want in life. It symbolizes the motivation to attain, get, possess and protect. It fuels your deepest passions and need for security. It is where you channel primal energies into your life. The energies of 'survival' are an important focus for your Mars and it will attach itself to any area that feels necessary to your own personal survival. Mars is also the ability to defend and challenge...to fight and conquer. It has an influence over your activity levels and muscular functions.

JUPITER: Rules Sagittarius Beliefs (conventional) Fairness Self appreciation Benevolence Jupiter symbolizes conventional beliefs, your sense of fairness and justice, where you are naturally generous and giving and how you learn to appreciate your own assets, gifts and abilities. It highlights where you can find success and material fulfillment and is often attached to luck, but is more accurately portrayed as "how" you receive and what you do with "luck". It is higher wisdom, long distance travel and helps you understand how you will enhance your basic knowledge and skills. It is the last planet before Saturn and very highlights how you support yourself and others. SATURN: Rules Capricorn Responsibility Discipline Determination Rules Saturn symbolizes the rules you learn by and adhere to. It is a teacher and it is a guide, it is a mentor and a disciplinarian. It is an area of your life where you feel obligated or controlled. There are rules attached to Saturn but like final exams they are rules that allow your graduation from one stage of life to the next. Saturn is the place in your life where you will also place your strictest set of rules and your own regulations. URANUS: Rules Aquarius Powers your connection to the universal consciousness. It is where you have the least amount of control yet where you reach the greatest potential with your thoughts, ideas and creativity. Uranus is about lightning, fireworks and all that is unusual. It uplifts and enlightens the generation and the collective and will pinpoint your part in it all. It rules higher education, higher mind and higher intellect. It is inventiveness above and beyond the norm. NEPTUNE: Rules Pisces This guides your deepest spiritualities and love. Where Neptune lies in your chart is where you must exert the most clear vision and sacrifice for the good of others. It can lead to uplifting and enlightenment and universal love but it's power ALWAYS lies within self. If reached for outside of self it can bring in addictions, phobias and other Neptunian weaknesses. PLUTO: Rules Scorpio Pluto powers your deepest fears, those things which lie far below the surface and require your efforts and dedication to transcending and breaking through. Obstacles will need to be overcome and strength applied to its house and aspects and its promise...is freedom. Freedom from fear. CHIRON: Chiron holds your deepest pains and life wounds. It powers your ability to heal self and in turn heal others. It is where you are vulnerable and potentially scarred. Healing this point in your chart brings great inner strength and triumph. NORTH NODE: The north node highlights your goals for the future. It displays lessons and understanding you need to assimilate into your life. It is the engine of your future and all that you can become in that future. It is where and how and why you are blazing your personal trails. SOUTH NODE: Is always directly opposite the north node. The south node was the engine of your past. It is areas which are known and comfortable but no longer to be lived in. Applying the talents and skills found in the south node in your chart towards reaching the north node allows you to harmonize the two and empower them.
