Caring for your Mercedes-Benz light-alloy wheels

Are all wheels made to the same safety standards?

No. in fact, the quality of materials and manufacturing for wheels varies widely. Other manufacturers wheels and bolts may be inexpensive, but they may also be made from inferior materials, which have not been subjected to the rigorous standards and testing specified by Mercedes-Benz. This can result in a wheel that lacks proper fit, strength, finish and size. This can also be a safety concern if the wheel cracks or breaks at speed. By contrast, Genuine Mercedes-Benz wheels are tested as an integral component of the vehicle. All Mercedes-Benz light-alloy wheels must meet the same high safety standards (including German regulations), whether an original wheel or an optional accessory. Genuine Mercedes-Benz Wheels feature: Raw materials and alloys that are laboratory tested upon arrival X-ray and 3D diagnostic testing at each stage of production Stress-tested at 2.5 times maximum vehicle load factors Must pass at least 200,000 load cycles with no incipient cracking Tested against salt solutions and extreme temperatures Multi-layer anti-chip and anti-corrosion coatings for paint and clear coats
