SUZA TO CELEBRATE ITS EIGHTH GRADUATION CEREMONY The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) will celebrate its eighth graduation ceremony on Saturday 22nd December, 2012. The event will take place in its new Campus premises at Tunguu, Central District, Zanzibar South around 08.30 a.m. His Excellency, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, the President of Zanzibar and the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council who is also the Chancellor of the State University of Zanzibar is expected to confer and present degrees, diplomas and certificates to the 2011/2012 University graduands.

In this years graduation ceremony a total 494 graduands out of which 262 (53.03%) being females and 232 (46.96%) male graduands will graduate in nine (9) different academic disciplines of Certificate in Computer Science, Certificate of Information Technology, Certificate in Librarianship and Information Technology, - page 1 of 3 -

Graduation 2/3 Diploma in Computer Science and Diploma in Languages with Education. Others are Diploma in Science with Education, Bachelor of Arts with Education, Bachelor of Science with Education and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. SUZA is currently running thirteen (13) academic programmes in addition to PhD in Kiswahili, Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management, Diploma in Social Work and University Qualifications Framework (Level 6) Certificate from the above mentioned programmes.

The State University of Zanzibar has this academic year increased its number of students who have finalized their studies compared to the last academic year as during the previous graduation ceremony a total of 320 (155 48.43% females and 165 51.56% males) graduated in six (6) different academic disciplines. page 2 of 3 -

Graduation 3/3 BACKGROUND INFORMATION The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) was established by Act No. 8 of 1999 of the House of Representatives of Zanzibar and became operational on 26th September, 2001. The University has recently undergone a massive restructuring process moving from having the School of Education, Arts and Sciences (SEAS) and two (2) Institutes of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages (IKFL) along with the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) which existed for a decade to four (4) recently introduced Schools of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages, Natural and Social Sciences, Education and that of Continuing and Professional Education. Apart from these Schools, there is one Directorate of Library Services and several academic departments and centres So many other envisaged programmes are to be introduced in the near future. -#-
