How Effective is the Combination of Your Main Product and Ancillary Texts? As far as creating a 'brand' for our band 'Intoxicated' goes, i wanted to have an easily recognisable dance/electro band. The combination of the main product and ancillary texts create a consistency throughout. During the research and planning stages there were conscious decisions made as far as the costume/style of the band go and colour schemes. The digipak originally had a green colour scheme that was created by photographing the band in front of the projector screen used in the video. The colours used are still bold but not as distracting as the bright green that i was originally going to use.

The red and blue colour scheme used on the Digipak and Advert suits the genders of the band and continues to keep a simplistic approach to my ancillary texts. I think the blue and red colours would be recognisable, especially from a 'dance' band that (judging from my research) don't often use this minimalistic style and this was shown in our video also. It was important that both ancillary texts look like a whole media package. Therefore I have used the same image in both my digipak and advert in order for the band to be even more recognisable and so the digipak and advert can be as similar as possible. There are clear correlations that I have made with my digipak and advert. The same font was used, colurs, the record label was on both texts as well as the same photo. By having the record label on the Advert people can recognise the band and the band can be found on the record labels website/archive. Not only do the digipak and advert correlate but the video also shows a running theme. In the video we used simple backgrounds, that are similar to the one used on my digipak. To keep the combination of all texts similar and to avoid any continuity errors, it was crucial we used the same people in the band and in the video. This also contributes to the idea of the combination of all texts looking like a whole package. The font was found on a website called Da Font and I chose this font from a selection of five. The chosen font was used on both my ancillary texts. I intentionally used it to match the simplistic approach and create a 'clean' professional and modern look that could match the bands casual style.

From the research and planning stages, it became apparent that the style of a band does attract people and in certain videos the male gaze was achieved by the artist/band wearing contemporary, revealing outfits. The costume/style of our band is casual in order for all the ancillary texts to be, in a way 'timeless'. Without people really judging the band on what they look like or what/who they're wearing. Again, the aim was to create a causal clean look that is distinctive for an alternative/dance genre. The band wear the same outfits in both ancillary texts, giving my work continuity. I have created the concept of a 'star image' by having the girl in the video making direct eye contact with the audience by looking into the camera. She is also the only singer. The boy had the role of 'DJ' and doesn't actually engage with the audience on either of my ancillary texts.
