MEDIA ADVISORY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Carla Hulsey (832) 393-3292 Cell: (832) 493-8676 carla.hulsey@houstontx.gov Council Member Jerry Davis continues big push to demolish dangerous buildings in District B HOUSTON December 19, 2012 Council Member Jerry Davis along with Mayor Annise Parker are kicking off another series of demolitions in District B starting today. Council Member Davis and Mayor Parker will be on-site for the demolition of a multi-family housing unit that is part of what the Citys Housing Department calls the Dirty Half Dozen List. The property is one of the top six worst multi-family units in the City of Houston. This list is continuously updated, and when a structure is demolished another one replaces it on the list. Constituents call the District B office daily to report dangerous buildings in their neighborhoods. I am glad we have been able to successfully work with Mayor Parker, the Department of Neighborhoods, and the Housing Department to eradicate dangerous buildings in our community. These buildings are a nuisance and a hazard to our health and personal well-being. This push to demolish dilapidated structures is only the beginning to eliminate blight in our neighborhoods, said Council Member Davis. Thanks to Mayor Annise Parker, the Housing Department, and the Department of Neighborhoods, Council Member Davis will demolish over eighty dangerous buildings in Fifth Ward, Trinity Gardens, and Acres Homes which are set to continue early next year.
