Rockbridge County senior quarterback
Abell, 6-0, 185, set eight school records and was named Region III offensive player of the year after leading Rockbridge County to the Division 3 regional final. He ran for two touchdowns and passed for one TD in a 28-24 playoff loss to eventual state champion Brookville. Abell finished with 1,813 rushing yards and 26 TDs on 243 carries. He passed for 1,031 yards and eight more TDs with just three interceptions. He rushed for 246 yards and accounted for six TDs in a playoff win over Liberty. Abell has committed to Richmond.

Hidden Valley senior safety
Kite, 6-1, 188, played the entire 2012 season with a painful dislocated shoulder and torn labrum, but the injuries did not stop him from earning Region IV defensive player of the year honors. His shoulder popped out of joint three times during the season, forcing him to miss a total of just six plays. Kite finished with 86 solo tackles and 10 tackles for loss, along with six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Kite also caught 33 passes and had five touchdowns at wide receiver. He made first-team All-Region IV as a kick returner, taking back a kickoff for a TD vs. Pulaski County and punt return for a score against Christiansburg. Kite has committed to Duke.

Ingo led his alma mater to the VHSL Group A Division 1 championship, 29 years after he was a twoway starting lineman on a George Wythe team that lost in the Group AA final. The Maroons won their sixth straight Hogoheegee District title, then they blanked defending state champion Clintwood 7-0 in a quarterfinal. Wythe knocked off unbeaten Franklin on the road in the semifinals and topped Honaker 17-10 in the final to finish 14-1.

Coach of the year

Ford, a 5-9, 160-pound wide receiver, caught 85 passes for 1,098 yards and 18 touchdowns to highlight Eastern Montgomerys spread offense. His single-season total ranks him ninth on the VHSL career list and second all-time in Timesland.

Hall, a 6-5, 266-pound defensive tackle, was named first-team All-Blue Ridge District and second-team All-Region III after helping Northside to a share of the district title. He had 46 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks and one blocked kick. He has an early offer from Maryland.
