Wrap and turn. WS: Purl to 22 stitches from the other end. Wrap and turn.

RS: Knit back across to the stitch before the wrapped stitch. Wrap and turn. WS: Purl back across to the stitch before the wrapped stitch. Wrap and turn. Repeat the last two steps until you have a total of 6 wrapped stitches (you can do more if you want to leave room for more curves. Or vice versa).

The Soy Cardi

Make your own top-down raglan cropped cardigan
What youll need
3 balls (I used about 2) of South West Trading Companys Oasis in Purple (100 percent Soy Silk, 240 yds/100 gram ball) One pair of U.S. size 6 needles. One set of U.S. size 6 DPNs. Stitch markers (at least eight) Tapestry needle Size F or G crochet hook (for edging) Buttons (I used 10 small ones.) Place a marker (PM), P1, PM. Purl the next 21 stitches, PM, P1, PM. Purl across the next 42 stitches, PM, P1, PM. Purl across the next 21 stitches, PM, P1, PM. Purl the last 21 stitches. 4. RS: Knit across to the first marker, increase one stitch by doing a Yarn Over (YO), Slip marker (SM), K1, SM, YO. Knit to second marker, YO, SM, K1, SM, YO. Knit to third marker, YO, SM, K1, SM, YO. Knit to fourth marker, YO, SM, K1, SM, YO. (138 stitches) 5. Purl every stitch (including the yarn overs). 6. Repeat rows 4 and 5 until the sleeve portion between markers 1 and 4 and markers 5 and 8 can wrap comfortably around your upper arm. For me that was 22 increase rows (44 total rows.) 7. Put sleeve portion on holders. (I used loosely threaded scrap yarn so I could try on the cardi as I continued.) 8. Knit straight stockinette for 2 inches. (I knit 2 inches until the cardigan hit midway on my boobs and added short rows to accommodate the curves there. You can do the same or leave out the short row steps altogether.) 9. Short rows: On a RS row, Knit to 22 stitches from the end.

RS: Knit back across, knitting the wraps together with their stitches. WS: Purl back across, purling the wraps together with their stitches. 10. Knit straight until the cardi is 1 inches from your waist (or 1 inches from wherever you want your cardi to hit you when it's finished. I knit another 3 inches of stockinette stitch after the short rows). 11. On a RS row, begin K2, P2 rib, increasing one stitch under each arm by knitting through the front and back of a knit stitch. (This is just to make the total number of stitches 132 so your K2, P2 rib will be even. If you cast on a different number of stitches, make sure your total number of stitches is divisible by four at this point.) 12. Rib for 1 inches, then BO in the rib pattern. 13. YAY! The body of your cardi is done. Celebrate. Then suck it up, get some DPNs and transfer the live sleeve stitches onto them so you can knit in the round. Pick up 6 stitches from the underarm gap between the front and back of the sleeves. If your sleeves are wider than mine were, you might want to pick up more or vice versa. This is just to make sure the underarm part lies flat. 14. Knit of an inch of stockinette stitch. (To make my sleeves a bit poofy I then K6, K2tog all the way around. If your sleeves are a different size, you may have to adjust the ratio of decreases. Or you can leave them out altogether. It doesn't

Gauge
I got 6 stitches and 8 rows = 1 inch on U.S. size 6 needles. (The ball band says 7 st/inch on size 6.)

Size
My version fits a 37-38 inch bust, but it is easy to modify because you can try it on as you go. Just make sure the sleeve portion fits around your arm and everything else should follow. Also, be sure and try it on to make sure it hits you in the right place before you start the last bit of ribbing.

Here we go
1. CO 130 stitches. 2. Knit one row. 3. On wrong side, place markers for the raglan increases: Purl across the first 21 stitches.

make a super puffy sleeve, just a hint of one.) Just make sure your number of stitches is divisible by two at this point. 15. On a RS row, begin a K1, P1 rib. Rib for an inch. 16. BO in K1, P1 pattern. 17. YAY! So now all that's left is the collar and the crocheted button band. 18. Pick up 128 stitches around the neckline for the collar. 19. Begin K2, P2 rib. Place one marker 44 stitches in and another marker at 88 stitches in. (These markers should line up with raglan decreases 2 and 3.) Rib for an inch. 20. Short rows (Again, I know, sorry. This makes the back of your collar taller than the front. If you want to leave this part out, go for it. Just rib until the collar is as tall as you'd like it.). Short rows: On a RS row, K2, P2 until one stitch before the second marker. Wrap and turn. WS row: K2, P2 back across until one stitch before the first marker. Wrap and turn. Repeat last two rows until the back of your collar is about 1? inches tall. (I did 6 wrapped stitches, just like before. Also, you may have to wrap a purl stitch because of the ribbed pattern.) RS row: K2, P2 back across, knitting or purling the wraps together with their stitches. WS row: P2, K2 back across, knitting or purling the wraps together with their stitches. 21. Rib for another 1 inch. BO in K2, P2 rib. 22. LAST STEP. I did a crocheted chain stitch all the way around the cardi. From the bottom of the right side, all the way around the collar and down the other side. Then I did another row of chain stitch on each side of the front (loosely, so I could fit my buttons through it) and then sewed my buttons onto the crocheted edging. Then I was DONE. And so are you! NOTE: This has not been test knit. Send me any corrections and I will update the pattern and make an errata page.
